Problem is, everybody has access to a music device usually in their pocket or purse and it's not to uncommon to see an earplug in. What we DON'T have access too is the coolness of a Bone in full afterburner going by. I'm guilty as you'll hear me breathing or saying something stupid when I should be filming. I've finally gotten good at recording birthday videos. Don't sing along with Happy Birthday so you can hear everyone else. HEY, I think my daughter censored me this way, hmmmm. I am excessively upset having to go to a grocery store that thinks I need a DJ giving us "Hits of the 60's" or 80's, they have nights. Just leave the danged music off. I used to LOVE Christmas music, when I was a kid. Hearing 14 different people butcher a song from the 30's really doesn't enhance my holiday demeanor. And come up with a new song thats halfway good, well we gotta listen to that thing 20 times an hour then, dont we Mariah. So people HATE it when you say somethings cool and then you put an overused or intolerable music clip over it. And don't even get me started on Airshow MC's that just HAVE to give you every little statistic they jotted down on anything to do with the tires on the airplane that you're trying to experience. Pilots performing to a musical routine, that's allowed. It's like Ice skating. 8 WWII heavy metal bombers flying by with 15 fighters of varying types in escort? SHUT UP. Having said all that crap. Cool video of a low and full out Bone. Wish I'd have been there. I lived in Wichita for 10 years one weekend (year and a half) and I never got over to watch them line up and take off. I even went over and flew Control Line at field not too far off the end of the runway, never was there when they were taking off. Fact is, I've never seen one on the ground or in the air and it kinda peeves me. While this is a good video clip, heres another with all the thunder you could want. I'm not sure if you realize just how big the B1 is. It wouldn't fit in the grand canyon, and definitely couldn't fly through it. It wasn't built for tught turns. It's a really big, really fast bomber that has impressive range.
Any plane can do a barrel roll, you just have to make sure it safe enough so the pilots don't fall out the windshield and is the frame strong enough to deal with the stress.
Depends on the weight. The wings are computer controlled, and there are a million different variables in the fly by wire system that controls the swept wing feature. Weight+angle of attack+altitude+speed. If I remember correctly it is even dependant on atmospheric pressure because that effects air density. In most cases, you would be correct, but at an airshow, with no ordinance, and probably 5gallons of fuel, it doesn't need that much lift.
Yeah, I'm glad you noticed that too. From the looks of it, he was going trans-sonic when he started to climb, and slowed down. Must of the time you wouldn't see that shockwave because it happens so fast, but he spent a lot of time in trans sonic flight, which is kinda dangerous, especially at an airshow.
