And here it is 2022, I'm now 85yrs old and watching this video still brings tears to my eyes. What I wouldn't give to climb aboard for a last trip around the traffic pattern!!
Another great US aircraft developed in the 1950s still looks modern today. Been a good work horse and seen from any angle says I AM THE BRINGER OF DEATH. Long may they fly.
Thanks. I was in an ADC Fighter Squadron,on a B52 Bomber SAC Air Force Base in the early 1960s. I saw these B52s take off and land everyday. It was an awesome experience to see them takeoff with their 8 Jet Engines. I will always remember them sideslipping when landing on a very windy (crosswind) day.Mmmmmmmm
Designed right after WW2, the prototype was under construction in the late '40s, and it first flew in 1952. It was designed and built closer in time to the Wright Brothers flight at Kitty Hawk than to today.
What an awesome sight< I can only imagine how it must be like to be there and see them depart. I guess I'd have an adrenaline rush a thousand times greater than I gotwatching this video!
Amen to that, brother. I spent my entire USAF career in the BUF, flew almost 600 times in it, and I still get the same thrill you do watching it takeoff. It was, and still is a magnificent airframe, and also one of the most forgiving.
i was lucky enough to see these take off a few years ago, awesome plane, they go out over 7 bridge and in event of emergency they would dump there bombs in bristol channel mudflats for easy recovery so i was lead to believe.
Oh ,,oh,,, oh ,,,, B 52 ........ YOU ARE. SO SO SO STRONG , . SO STRONG... SO STRONG MY GOD ,, MY GOD DID DID DID ,,,,YOOOUUUU ALREADY. EJACULATE,, OH OH OH OH TOO LATE TOO LATE AREADY FINISHED,,,,, AND BYE THE HIN INTERNATIONAL ARTIST GROUP
No one has designed or built anything even close to the B-52. Even the newer B-1-B & B-2 bombers which are faster and more stealthy don't carry as much bomb/fuel weight. But the weapons today are more lethal and accurate. I don't think we have the old massive dumb ground bombs left over from the Vietnam era. We used them up in the first gulf war. Let's see how much further we can run the BUFF. (70 years old)
I was there when they came on station, usaf pilots and aircrew of the Buff are great guys..one pilot said, imagine trying to fly a container ship, when I ase what its like to fly. Never insult a Buff jockey, next time they over uk with full load, your city may end up demolished lol...great vid
Probably not as much as you'd like, but we spent a whole bunch of money and many years defending your sometimes uncaring country and the rest of the free world. Add to that years of living away from one's family every week for endless years because we believed in defending freedom.
Ironic that someone would take a cheap shot at the US over the iconic B-52 exhaust. That 60 year old aircraft has been carrying that big stick of the USA forever. Also projecting power around the world and protecting NATO along the way. The USA won't apologize. Maybe Volkswagon should apologize for conspiring to fudge the numbers for years on diesel emissions on millions of their new cars around the world. Don't despair all you tree huggers the B-52 will soon be fitted with new high by pass engines.
With the old, old, OLD J-57 engines. These H models are much more capable in all respects thanks to the TF-33 engines on them, and of course as you mentioned, they put out much, much less smoke too. A minimum interval T/O back then with D, E, F or G models made the runway environment go IFR because of the smoke. Truly very impressive to see!
War is just so expensive. How much fresh water pipe could you lay across a Africa for the cost of running just one of those beasts? How much vital medication/vaccine? et al. et al.
How about Africa using some of their diamonds, gold and other resources to pay for their own fucking water and vaccinations? They could also spend a few bucks on birth control and solve a bunch of their problems. Freedom isn't free, numbnuts.
