B747-400ERF Flap retraction

If you watched the video on Flap extension, you will no doubt be keen to see the flap retraction sequence. For retraction, the trailing edge flaps retract first until Flap 5 is selected when the outboard variable camber flaps retract. The mid-span variable camber and the Krueger flaps then retract on selection of flap ‘UP’ position. There you have it! Flap retraction on the B747-400ERF. Hope you like it. Later!...

Those trailing edge flaps on the 747 are GIGANTIC. Gives you a totally different sense of scale and proportion seeing them from the ground!

I really love the 747. It has been my favorite arliner since I was a child. Played hundreds of hours over various MSFS installments on PC. Wished it was properly simulated in the newest one, but sadly it has many problems. Your videos though are a great help to compensate the pain over that issue. Please show us more about this beatiful piece of engineering and aviation history! If you have not already, consider me intrested in the hydraulic and fuel system!

how do rear flaps affect, affect engine gases, and how engine gases affect the flaps ???
@visionist7
@visionist7 3 года назад
Older planes like the 747 have a "thrust gate" which is a gap in the flaps where the engine thrust passes through. The inboard gap on the 747 houses the all-speed aileron. Modern planes like the A380 have flaps all across the wing and these capture thrust on takeoff and channel it downwards, reducing the takeoff run distance. Some planes also use the all-speed aileron as a flap or as a flap/spoiler as well, called a flaperon. Airbuses don't have all-speed ailerons though, it's a Boeing thing only. Maybe the A300/A310 had them though.
@Rhinozherous

The 747 does not simply deploy or retract flaps.... It deconstructs and rebuilds its wings inflight.

@seadeer923
@seadeer923 3 года назад
I’m assuming it’s with the APU
@pilot_obet7815
@pilot_obet7815 3 года назад
Yes the air driven hydraulic pumps number 1 and 4 are on and pressurise the system. Powered by the APU
@ImperrfectStranger
@ImperrfectStranger 3 года назад
The Auxilliary Power Unit (APU) in the tail is providing pneumatic (pressurised air) power to the air-driven hydraulic pumps in the outboard engine struts for trailing edge flap operation. The APU also provides pneumatic power to the air-driven motors which drive the leading edge flaps. It could be done electrically, but that would be much slower.

Krueger flapes are also known as slats
@thatg6838
@thatg6838 Месяц назад
No, Krueger flaps are not known as slats. They are 2 different leading edge devices. The Krueger flaps fold out from under the leading edge to increase the wings camber or “curve” to increase lift. Slats are attached to the front of the leading edge and when they extend the push out forward and down to open a slot gap between itself and the wing so that high pressure air from the bottom of the wing to energise the top air and reduce stall speed. The 747 as only Krueger flaps and no slats. Planes like the 737 has both. Krueger flaps between the fuselage and engines and slats outside the engines towards the wingtips.

They should be called Krueger Slats rather that flaps. Slats are not slotted and are fitted to the leading edge of the wing. Flaps are known to be at the trailing edge of the wing and most aircraft including small aircraft don't have slotted, or have slotted flaps. Ohh well, still, awesome.
