If Mehendi Hasan sahab has technicality then Jagjit ji has heart and the Dard and also has something thats call softness and a very dignified sophisticated voice that only Jagjit ji could produce nobody else could...
Thanks for uploading. He was a great fan of late Mehdi Hassan. Went to Pakistan to raise money for him when the maestro was unwell and was going through difficult times
With the greatest regards to a legend that Jagjit Singh ji is, Mehdi Hassan has reached a height no one else can reach. Throughout the song, it felt like he was trying to sing different than the original by MH but didn't want to spoil it by taking a different way in terms of the Raaga. Only the taal and lay is where he could be different and he was. That's how difficult MH sahab has made it for others.
Surprisingly, note here somewhere Jagjit ji had sung the same phrase as did Mehndi hasan sahab usually, though all around he opted for different laya. Your perception is genuine.
Aap sab apni apni jagah sahi ho...aur main bhi jagjit ji ka bahut badaa fan hoon...par kehna padega ye ghazal Mehdi Hassan sahab se behtar nahin koi gaa sakta. Respect for all...we are big fans of jagjit ji.

Gulzar sahib said jagkit ji sings each word like hes opening package fold by fold. Sometimes even poets had t thought of such effect of words that jagjit ji can open for you.
Just want to say one thing when Sri Jagjit ji sings Ghazal it seems he singing for himself..and seems like he singing for his Sweetheart . There is always a commitment in his voice where as Others sings to show their capability, mastery etc
You have to have the capability/mastery to show it off! On a serious note, I do like his early career ghazal singing. Later on, he started "humming" it and made it difficult to understand what he was singing. Ghazal is highest form of poetry in Urdu, and worst one can do while singing is to eat the words. Jagjit had a good voice for ghazal singing (though lacked capability), but he didn't get audience who really understood ghazals and thus ended up singing the way he was.
If you had an opportunity to dit in his close mehfil, it seemed like he he was channeling it from another dimension. That's why some have said- he can connect with the soul of poet to know the emotions of composition.

Though MH sahb is unreachable by any of this universe.. Well he tried his very best to even touch his level.. Mehdi sahb is Greatest of all time we all know
No doubt Jagjit Singh was an Ustad. I don't know what is the criteria of this title but he was a Great Singer. I had an opportunity to see two of his concerts in the USA and it was incredible to hear him live. I sent a request to sing his rear ghazal "Umr Jalvo mein basar ho zaroori to nahi" and he graciously sang that.
आद. मेहदीजी के गायन सुनकर जो आनंद मिलता है वैसाही आनंद अनुभव किया. भगवानने हरेक गलेमें अलग खासियत रखी है, जैसे हरेक पंछीकी आवाज. श्री जगजीतजी बहूत सुंदर गाते है.
What a lovely ghazal . But this ghazal actually seems fitting with D MASTERO OF GHAZALS -MEHDI HASSAN -cannot imagine any 1 else singing this beautiful n melodious n heart touching ghazal
Mehdi Hassan sung this ghazal in 50s..and he himself created the tune which is later followed (or should I say copied..) later by Jagjeet Singh and others! Certainly nobody can match or reach level synonymous with Mehdi Saheb when it comes to Ghazala!!
Gazal singing sirf mehdi hassan khan sahib k liye hi bani hai ...na koi or gazal ga sakta hai na gazal ko un say behtar samajh sakta hai but jugjeet sings is a good ammature..
