Baba O'Riley, The Who, Jiffy Lube Live, Bristow, Virginia; May 11th, 2019; Moving On Tour with Full Orchestra; 3rd night of the North American Tour; (Washington DC area); Final song of the night
When they were doing their 50th anniversary tour the wife asked me "What are you doing on Saturday?" "Nothing" I replied. "Yes you are" she said "You're going to see The Who" I was blown away. We could only afford cheap seats so we were at the back really high up. When I took my seat I looked down and my heart started doing backflips. We went to the front desk and asked if they had anything a little lower. The girl on the desk smiled and said she could help. We ended up in the VIP section right next to the stage. Unbelievable. An incredible show. And when Roger was singing Bellboy, looking up and paying tribute to Keith on the large screen behind him, I was blown away. Tears flowed. My wife rocks. Almost as much as The Who.
@wesmatron your wife sounds like my wife, also a very thoughtful woman who loves to make her man happy. We’re both blessed, though I never got to see these legends live lol but I’ve had my share of similar beautiful experiences thanks to the wonderful angel in my life.
Daltrey sounds great!!! Thanks to Pete Townshend for writing all the incredible music. Nothing... NOTHING today is as good as this. Even after 1000 listens.
Ringo Star's son, Zach Starkey, on drums. He's been with them for almost 20 years now. Keith and Ringo were best friends, so Zach grew up knowing Keith as Uncle Keith. Keith gave him his first drum set and was his favorite drummer...even over his pops.
Great history lesson @Chad Carr. Its cool learning more about the musicians I grew up listening to. Most of the music made today is simply garbage. Im 51 this year and it has saddened me many times to see some of the greatest musicians such as Peart and Eddie Van Halen passing both from Cancer. I became a drummer in my teens and also play brass instruments. I still play today because of Rush. This video was a suggested video and Im glad I got to see it. It was good to see Roger bellowing out the lyrics to one of my favorite songs of my youth. I mis my youth and the music back then but the show must go on......
Katie the violinist is still traveling with The Who and just finished up the North American leg of their Who Hits Back tour. She’s a fantastic musician.
I agree. I have always loved The Who & " Baba O`Riley " is the first song that Atlanta's 96 Rock played, at least that was the story then. Rodger can't seem to toss the microphone anymore but Pete can still rev up with his guitar, as always!!
This song is one of the top Rock Anthems of all time. Watching this performance even from the aging group still gave me goose bumps same as when I first heard it as a teen. This is timeless music done by the best of the best.
My first date with my good lady was a blind date to see The Who in Southampton in ‘71. We’ve been happily riding The Magic Bus ever since. Baba O’Riley live.... Just....Wow!
Baba O'Riley blasting on the 8 track while I'm tooling down a gravel road in my 69 Camaro 396 SS going home to the trailer I lived in during part of college. Windows down, beautiful day, not a care in the world. Somehow, listening to this song, I knew that this one particular moment on that one particular day would be a watershed moment in my life that would stay with me forever. And each and every time I even hear the name of this song, I am transported back through time to that one particular moment. Hearing the song brings tears to my eyes.
Roger got a kiss bc he gladly put down his harmonica so that a violinist could render a memorable performance to herself, the band, and the audience. RD is just the best.
That violinist plays her part with all the enthusiasm of the day as when the song was first recorded and debuted. Amazing to see Roger and Pete and The Who. Just amazing. It does not get better.
@@cptlou the Grateful Dead? i am a deadhead but also a christian harekrishna i leave "the devil" alone he has a tough job - now has to clean up trump rasputin.. a fine mess God has handed him ! : )
Right now, at this very moment, you're somewhere in the crowd at the concert. Pete and Roger are there too. Scratch it off...you have arrived! My turn was in '83 or'82, Orlando. I was about three rows out of range of the Great Ketchup Fight. Some idiot got a cup of ketchup or mustard and threw it down into the lower seats. They sent return fire of all sorts. Someone...or several....grabbed the ketchup and mustard dispensers from the concessions stand. It was hilarious to those of us our of range. A couple of thousand people in a food fight. I still have the small tray from the Holiday Inn....the one with the drinking glasses wrapped in paper....I used it to clean my weed. Who else remembers cleaning their weed on a small tray or double album cover? I know, I shouldn't have taken it but, meh, it was just that sort of time in life. Had a GREAT girl.....smart enough to be very interesting, crazy enough to be dangerous...the crazy won out. Weed, 'ludes, coke....and still I can remember most of it! Ok....some of it. Alright, alright alright....a little bit of it.
Hey Eric I was up front for the Orlando Show, that Place was Filled to the Top. I've seen The Who a Few Times and I think They were the Best I'd seen them for that Concert ! yep, I'm 65 now.... and going to see them again in Sep. in Sunrise, FL.
Thanks boys for getting me through the teenage years. I'm now almost 60,but when I listen to this track, I'm a young man again. God Bless you Boys and many thanks for music and memories.
40 years later & still amazing!!! I'm so happy to have grown up surrounded by a phenomenal music generation. You can almost sense that Pete was dying to jump around but had to refrain from breaking bones on state :D
I remember playing this on my parents stereo component back in '71. I'd have it turned up to the max (when they weren't there) one of the greats rock songs ever written
Wow I just fell in love with them again! They seem to have a whole new energy and love for what they do. Their relaxed and funny personalities on stage in front of probably thousands of people makes it seem intimate. Yet the music is rock solid and as awesome as ever! Roger's voice sounds amazing!
This is absolutely freaking awesome. Daltrey and Townshend still rocking......and hitting those notes with a windmill to boot! Looks like they're having fun too! Congrats to the orchestra too......FANTASTIC!!
Most hard rock bands would find it impossible to do this kind of show in their mid 50’s, let alone their mid 70’s. And to cap it all, they still look and sound so f*****g credible. Long live The Who.
How can anyone ever forget that intro!! Fan fucking tastic! Daltrys voice is a joy to behold. Always reminds me of my two older brothers bob and chris. RIP my beautiful brothers, i will see you in the teenage wasteland. Peace to the world.
Roger sounds, in this concert, as good as he did fifty years ago. It's astounding. A few years ago he appeared to be fading; and his performances had the sense that he was parodying himself. Not here!!!
I met Katie years ago when she played violin at a function for my aunt. Back then, she was still in high school and you could tell she had a special gift. Katie you were awesome then and still awesome today.. Happy for you getting to play with and being part of the WHO ..
The violinist! the violinist! THE VIOLINIST! The young lady knocked a couple of legends practically off the stage with the song's trademark solo -- what a treat! Absolutely phenomenal. Great camera too as she & Zack Starkey on drums build up to the Baba O'Reilly crescendo. Pure live pop legend GOLD.
She's beautiful too! (Whoever she is). Forget about that college kid who had to sit in for Keith Moon for two songs so they could finish the show. She's the real deal.
Roger & Pete are just fantastic to watch even in their 70’s….. they’re so causal and they truly are having a blast on stage!! They never get old to watch!! ❤❤❤❤
A yardstick for any rock band to come up with a classic like this. Still as relevant now as it was almost 48!! years ago when released. Thanks for uploading.
This was my 7th time seeing The Who. There are few bands left on this world that I would be willing to sit in the rain for 3 hours. Thank you for posting this, Mr. Easton...
Can't wait - We see them Sunday 10/13 @ the Hollywood Bowl. 2nd time, last time in the 1978 Madison Square Garden, NYC. What a treasure & gift The Who are for continuing to entertain their fans! ROCK ON! Love you guys.
Such a powerful song. I'd never heard it 'live' until this, after hearing it for decades. This was (is) so good it made me smile, shoot my arm up in joy, and cry!!!
My first concert when I was 15 was the original WHO doing TOMMY in 1970 two years later they Did WHO'S NEXT. I saw them 5 Times in all . Still My Favorite Band.
Back in the Sixties and Seventies, bands like The Who and The Rolling Stones made music history. Now, in their 60's and 70's, they still stand head and shoulders above the rest. Rock on!
I know I commented already in this video. But I still can’t get over it. Standing back in the rain. Singing along. And having my father stand up, put his arm around me, and together we sang Pete’s part. It was truly an amazing experience
Roger Daltrey & "The Who" had so many great songs. This is by far one of their best. These guys are awesome, they have been performing for nearly 60 years 👍🏻
I really enjoyed watching them live yesterday in Anaheim at The Honda Center. Great performance accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra! The gorgeous violinist played beautifully!
What an ageless group. Awesome they can still bring it!!!All of you young folks missed the best rock you will ever hear. The 60' 70'and 80's. You don't hear anything like this now.
Saw them in Boston just breathtaking Thanks guys their songs not only are great but have true meanings Keith and John never went away their souls are there
