@JJ-wv3wy we have our doctrine in yoruba isese and there is nothing questionable. First thing you need to know is that ifa is for yoruba people but other people are welcome, we dont do things how it's done in South Africa. We do things based on how orunmila instructed us and not what we think is right. The right way is how our ancestors did it . We have orishas for the society and some families have their own orisha. You are allowed to appease either one, no one is forcing one or the other on you since only Olodumare is supreme however, we do have orishas in ifa we make sacrifices to and these are people who stood out in community and not just our family. People we believe can intercede for us before Olodmare. They are levels above your family orisha because they were sent to us a yorubas by olodumare and not just to a particular family. If you want to appease your family orisha, so be it but communal orishas are superior to family ones. That's why we have orisha akunlebo which is also superior to orisha adurobo. What you are describing is close to egungun practise that focuses more on direct ancestors worship, we have that as well but it's different in ifa which focuses on communal orisha and which is considered superior. You can't compare people who helped a whole tribe to someone who's just from your family line, just because they're from your family line doesn't mean they did anything great in this world but you are allowed to specially revere your direct ancestors if you like. Just remember you can't compare them to Sango, Ogun, Orunmila and Co. It's all about levels and its in every religion. Christians revere Jesus, Muslims revere Mohammed, Buddhist revere Budha. I don't see them comparing these guys to people from their family line.

There is so much conflation and confusion when people bring foreign religious concepts into our traditions. Even calling Eledumare God is problematic because there are significant differences in the understanding of God from Eledumare. In the bible God (yahweh or whatever) receives sacrifices, holocaust offerings, first fruits etc. Nowhere do you hear that anyone anywhere makes ebo to Eledumare. The concept is ridiculous to Yoruba.

In this ese odu Eledumare makes ebo on behalf of Eledumare's daughter, Emi omo Eledumare, omo ateni legelege f'ori sagbeji omi. So to you question, 'how can Eledumare make Ebo?'. First what is ebo? Is it an act of worship? Obviously not otherwise Eledumare couldn't be doing it. I'm not comfortable with the use of 'god' to refer to Eledumare. It is a germanic word that carries connotations have nothing to do with Yoruba belief. Who is the Lord of Ebo? There is an entity in Ifa called Olubobotiribo Baba Ebo. Olubobotiribo is the lord of Ebo. This is a synonym for the Mouth. 'Kini a nbo n'ife. Enu won'. What do we make ebo to in Ife, Their mouths. So you see that Eledumare cannot be the recipient of Ebo, which creature can claim to feed its creator. It is the other way round. Eledumare feeds, nurture and sustains us.
