Are you ready for an epic France vs. Canadian French showdown? In this episode of Babbel Explains, we explore the intricacies and differences between French from France and Canadian French. From accents to slang words, there can be significant differences between the two, and this doesn’t even include the regional differences within each country 🤯. But at the end of the day, the big question is: can French speakers from these two countries understand each other?
Our host Sofiane Yetto, a Frenchman who is living in Montréal, breaks this topic down for us.

I always had trouble talking with French Canadians, but no problem the one time I spoke with a couple from France (20 years since I had last spoken, read, or listened to French).

The Bill 101 was introduced in 1977. In 1974, the bill 22 has been introduced. I think you confused both.

Hi Armin, we're sorry you're having trouble with the audio. We've updated the English closed captions, so you can turn those on by clicking the CC at the bottom right of the screen if that's helpful. Thanks for watching!

This this video needs more context. It would be interesting to analyse how French are using disgraceful words like "pute" or "putin" (whore) all the time. Does that mean French are disgraceful to women in society in general? Maybe not, but think about that before making comparaisons. Also, if French language in Quebec grew differently from France, does the language becomes a dialect? For me, these are the words form a colonialist country. For me, no dialect exists on Earth, since languages represent culture, music, poetry.... Does the accent from Paris makes French language from Marseille a dialect? No. The truth is that French language is part of the Francophone world and I think French people in general should be more open to DIVERSITY like neutral gender pronouns and feminization of nouns (professions), as we try to do in Quebec. Recently, even Macron was opposed to this idea. Now, who is living in the good old traditional French language? This is 2022, not the 17th century.
