▬ ABOUT THIS VIDEO ▬
Babbel vs Rosetta Stone Review (Which Language Program Is Better?). In this video, John covers our team's comparison of Rosetta Stone vs Babbel. Given these are two of the most popular language learning apps in the world, consumers often have a difficult time deciding which one to go with. Lucky for you, John and his team (including a polyglot who is fluent in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish) have personally tested and evaluated each language learning program. John talks about how the lessons from both companies compare and dives into the major pros and cons of each language app. Overall, John likes that the Babbel courses and lessons are a little shorter, include more variety in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing drills and include helpful translations tips along the way. Rosetta Stone, on the other hand, is better suited for visual learners. All in all, Rosetta Stone covers around 25 different languages, including Dutch, Arabic, Japanese and Korean. Meanwhile, Babbel only covers around 15 or so languages. Thanks for watching this language learning apps review guide. Hopefully it helps you determine whether Babbel is better than Rosetta Stone or vice versa. Learning a new language is extremely difficult so it's important you choose the best language app for your specific learning preferences.

Thank you for this video. It was very helpful! It answered the questions I had. I'm currently using Rosetta. One thing that is frustrating is I will understand what is spoken, but choose the wrong picture because I don't understand what the picture is supposed to portray. For example, one picture is supposed to show present tense and one is past tense. Hard to tell what is being portrayed. When my 3 month subscription runs out, I will try Babel and use your link!

I can't learn the language with English translations involved...it's a stumbling block. I've tried different programs with total disappointment because it was same similarity as High School teaching a language. If Rosetta is the same as was 15 yrs ago with a sample lesson that had me thinking the language...no other did this.

I have used rosetta for two years now, and have gotten accustomed to the lesson structure. My biggest complaint is about the platform itself, it is slow and frankly difficult to navigate at times. For instance you really need to keep track of which lesson you are on, because it seems to sometimes do them out of order or break them up in strange ways. Also be prepared for a lot of new stuff at once, I have frequently felt overwhelmed by the number of new words in a single lesson. Sometimes you really do have to go back and repeat a lesson, but at least after the 'core lessons' (the long ones) they generally follow up with reinforcing the new words in other exercises. I wish it were a little better in these areas but overall it has helped the learning process. Also I recommend not using it in a vacuum so to speak, it must be supplemented with reading, listening to and watching media in the target language.

Babbel has fewer languages some of which are not highly sought after to learn (e.g. Turkish and Indonesian)? It would be worth it for common European languages. But for languages like Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, Thai, Vietnamese with many more millions of speakers, Rosetta Stone makes it more worthwhile in my opinion because they can be used for travel and business in many more applications.

I hate Babbel… I tried it for months, I quit, I tried again, several times, and it was like basic dumb school teaching. Rosetta is more immersive and you really have to work to understand vocabulary. With Babbel I was repeating every word and I memorised nothing at the end. In 2 weeks of Rosetta, I already know a lot of things!! Of course it always depends of your personal skills and abilities, but for me, who has ADHD, Rosetta actually worked, contrary to Babbel, Duolingo, Busuu and stuff… Thank you for taking the time to review and compare both! Even if I don’t agree, it was really interesting to have your point of view

Very good video. It answered my questions. The only thing I'll point out is that I don't feel like you acknowledged what a deal $180 for a lifetime subscription to RS is. Sure, if you're just trying to learn one extra language, Babbel's pricing is better. But if you want to dabble in multiple languages and gain some fluency, you can't really beat that RS deal right?
@TestPrepInsight
@TestPrepInsight Год назад
Fair point, Chris! Honestly, both companies have good lifetime plan deals, which each give you access to all their languages. Rosetta's costs $180 (when on sale) and Babbel's is $200 (again, when on sale). You can see Babbel's pricing on that here: testprepinsight.com/go/babbel-comparison/. We didn't give it a ton of coverage in this vid because the pricing on both all access lifetime plans is so close. But good point for multiple language learners!
@Celestial_Souljah
@Celestial_Souljah Год назад
Thanks. I didn't realize Babbel had a lifetime option. I was leaning towards RS because of the lifetime option, but Babble seems more like what I'd want, so it having that option makes it the clearer choice for me.

Okay, so I tried Rocket for a bit thinking that would be the one for me...but I still like Babbel better with the shorter lessons. Well shucks. I wish I had done more research before I purchased a lifetime subscription to Rosetta Stone. I’m currently working on learning Portuguese and you hit the nail on the head when you said that the lack of English translation can be a bit frustrating. I think I learn equally on visual and hearing. So lacking the ‘hearing’ in translating has given a bit of buyer’s remorse. I’m still plugging away at it. Just might go ahead and buy into Babbel. Hi Lap, sort of depends on what you're looking for - mainly, how many languages you actually plan to learn and how long you want to learn for. The value proposition is kind of a sliding scale depending on need I suppose.

If you find most programs basic and want a more advanced level of fluency, then check out Pimsleur (testprepinsight.com/go/pimsleur-review/) and Rocket (testprepinsight.com/go/rocket-spanish/). Their programs are more advanced and will help you become fluent more quickly.

I went to both links you put in the comments and Rosetta is a little bit cheaper than Babbel... They have always been very expensive.

Kudos, and thank you. The professionalism and content were much appreciated. Unfortunately, I struggled from the get-go with Rosetta Stone. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Today, I signed up for a Babbel Lifetime Subscription. I saved $50.00 using the link provided. Again, thank you. 😁😁😁

I also wanted to ask, just to make sure I'm choosing the right one, what is the cost of the live instructor in RS please? If Babel doesn't fit us I'll move to RS...TIA!!!
@TestPrepInsight

I think the RS live lessons are like $15-$20 per session. Hope that helps!

I would like to learn Spanish, because I have friends that are Spanish and would like to add more to the conversation. I also would like to learn for my faith. I would like to reach out to other Spanish speaking folks about different faiths, concepts, and shared interests as well.

I did one sample lesson of Rosetta about 15 years ago and at that time Rosetta said it taught you to learn a language the same way you learn the language you speak from birth/being a child. I was able to comprehend and think what I said in that one sample. I hope it's the same today.

I don't agree with the pricing argument 180 dollars for all languages for life is a very good deal... if the software works.

I was learning German with Rosetta Stone for about 4 months but it is expensive... I cannot compare it with Babbel because I had not tried it yet... What do you think about Memrise? Do you have a review about it with Babbel?

Buyer's remorse--I bought Babbel only to discover it offers very few languages. So disappointed that I didn't check on that before paying.

Just seemed a little one sided for the review. Both offer great courses and lot's of information. Babbel does get right into it and gets you speaking right away. Rosetta Stone on the other hand, repeats the words so the get ingrained into your head. Once you advance further into Rosetta Stone it starts doing more with sentences and the grammar. Babbel slows you down, and does a quiz on you once end your 1st lesson.
