ON Aug 12, 1948, when Pakistan was gearing up to celebrate the first anniversary of its independence, the police and other forces under command of chief minister Khan Abdul Qayyom khan, opened fire on the non-violent and unarmed Khudai Khidmatgars who were peacefully protesting against the detention of Bacha Khan , Dr Khan sb and other leaders of Red shirt activists. According to unofficial reports , The Babrra massacre was a mass bloodshed on 12 August 1948 in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan, which took lives of 611 unarmed Pashtun martyrs who supported the Khudai Khidmatgar movement. The provocation came from the continued arrest of Abdul Ghaffar ‘Bacha’ Khan, the leader of the Khudai Khidmatgar movement also called Redshirt Movement.
