It can also cause trancing which is the opposite of relaxing as the bunny is in a heightened state of fear. It is a defensive response to a predator in the hopes the predator will release the bunny thinking it is dead. The bun can be in an extremely stressed state due to this. Only certain times is this acceptable like when you need the bun still to clip his nails or give it a vaccine or drug injection.

All those pictures where people lie them down flat on their backs are making me sick, because in that position bunnies go into shock mode and also it's easily damaging their spine. But yeah, thank god I am not a rabbit, since so many people don't know how to treat them properly.

It's what everyones saying here, makes them enter a panicked state, we didn't have much research on it til recently (and still could get more) but the more we find the more it seems this trance state isn't just a natural 'play dead in dangerous situations' trigger, but their heart struggles to handle it - they can die, harm their health or at best you are leaving them scared and disorientated even after drawing them out of it. Remember rabbits are very very fragile, one reason they have such a high breeding rate! There are situations where a vet might trance a rabbit to perform something delcate on it, but it definitely should be left to an expert. Burrito-ing a rabbit is so much safer and its relatively easy to cut their nails for example, there are guides on youtube :) I should have mentioned I wasn't commenting on the vid, but on people watching, I'm sure mbbbunny knows what they're doing as they've been doing this for a time!
