Probably throw the eggs away. Lol. Incubation is 21 days. If they don’t hatch they’re probably not fertilized.

So...I was amused at your husband arguing with the birds. How does he feel about his life being at the point that he can mutter, unironically, "spoiled chicken" as part of his normal conversation and not mean supper gone bad? lol

Marking the eggs is the way to go, but I like to draw a line around the egg so that I can easily tell which ones belong in the nest without having to inspect each egg.

Yay! Am so glad you are raising your own birds! I did this for years and it was wonderful though we took a lot of grief from “experts” from the feed store. We managed hens closely and had great success. Then we traded out roosters of new lines to keep the traits we liked. Now my adult children can do the same thing. Lovely. 🐥🐥🐥🐥!

What fun. First chicks! I incubated hundreds of duck and goose eggs. Sometimes I let a goose sit on a clutch of eggs. But they don't see all that well and can accidently step on their goslings. But the whole tribe of adult geese will protect and raise those babies!

When i was a kid my folks sold eggs. A few hundred layers. All free range. A few roosters mixed in. I would find the clucks (broody hens) and set them on eggs someplace with a bushel basket over them for one day. When i removed the basket they always adopted that nest as their own. Three weeks later she was running around the yard with her chicks.

Aww, how sweet! We had a blue cochin, named Flora, that was a retired show bird that was given to me. She thought she was a house chicken. One Easter she climbed into a basket I had filled with ceramic eggs. After that we gave her eggs to sit for us but one day we couldn't find any of our chicks. When we checked Flora, she had 22 chicks under her wings! She was the best chicken!
