Wow so much negativity people! Everyone’s definition of “essential” is personal. What’s essential for a first time mum to an experienced mum will differ. What’s essential in some cultures vs. other cultures will differ. Essentials can even differ based on the layout of your house and accessibility of items. It’s all relative. Give her a break and just appreciate this video for what it is- a beautiful look at what this gorgeous mamma found essential for her baby. 💗

I found this video when I was first pregnant with dreams and vision of a baby as lovely as yours. Then, I had a miscarriage and lost my baby. Post myomectomy and pregnant with 13 weeks old baby again I refound this video, here I am crying for the baby I lost and making notes for the one I am now carrying.

As a quick safety note, loungers like the Snuggle Me or Dockatot are not considered safe for sleep of any kind (the products will have those warnings in the fine print too). Babies are meant to be supervised at all times when using them because the soft sides create a risk of suffocation and rebreathing. Definitely do your research about the risks before you decide what's right for your baby.
@ashleezaccardi4029
@ashleezaccardi4029 Год назад
Yes, agreed! And co-sleeping is also not recommended for the same reason. SIDS is very real, and having your baby sleep on a flat, hard surface with no loose fabric near them will greatly reduce the chance of SIDS
@tinekecarlson1220
@tinekecarlson1220 Год назад
@@ashleezaccardi4029 if you look at the actual data, babies sleeping in cribs in rooms by themselves also die from SIDS. Look into "breastsleeping" and le leches league. Just because the APA says something doesn't mean it's true.

I coslept with both of my children and they are fine. What do people think our ancestors did? I'm part native American, can you imagine cribs then? People listen far too much to the "experts" and not enough from our ancestors.

Thank god I found a "normal" person, who gets the idea of essential. I was wondering what I would be needing for my newborn but what I saw till now were people really!!! overdoing things. In this overpopulated world with not enough resources we should really not "overdoing" things anymore. Thank you for your post, it was really helpful :)

Another essential if you have older toddlers/kids already: a baby carrier! That way you can keep baby close when doing random things for your other kids!
@braria9855
@braria9855 4 месяца назад
Also helps with neck control (counts as "tummy time" if that stresses anyone out), regulates temperature and helps improve digestion significantly (since you're moving their intestines for them). So all people with colicky babies, try carrying your babies for a few days straight, and stop giving them D drops (if you EBF, ingest 6k IU daily and baby will be 100% okay) and these two things will likely improve their digestion dramatically.

One of the biggest game changers when it comes to diaper bags is buying a diaper bag insert. Mine is from a brand calles Lilibell. It's basically a bag in bag system with which you can use any of your existing bags (backpacks) you already own and get the benefits of the compartmens. It also has handles so you can use it on its own or take it out and put it in another bag.

This is one of those things I would have loved before my first. I had a few more things than I needed, and also with my second and third I had even fewer than you had. One things I loved that you don't that was amazing, especially with second and third was a baby wear wrap which helped me get through things and walking without a stroller.
@marianap.h3961
@marianap.h3961 2 года назад
May I ask what do you think is unnecessary? I am having my first in December and I don't knownif I have too much or too little
@laynemartin7914
@laynemartin7914 2 года назад
@@marianap.h3961 I found that muslin blankets are really good to have, its mostly about diapers and wipes, have about 7 to 10 onside, for the first year and do laundry every two to three days, have Two thicker blankets that can be used for warmth and as playmats. I got a cheap bouncer for when I needed to put my kid down and got a "travel system" for a carseat and stroller, but later realized an umbrella stroller was more practically when I went out using a car. I wouldn't go out and buy all the baby meds for your first just because things like diaper rash, colic, and fevers are things SOME babies get but some just don't and if you have a partner or support system that can run out the first time you need them, they last forever, rash I prefer D+A, it doesn't get all over everything and stain like desitin and seems like it stays where I put it better. Also, if the skin isn't broken use baby powder because it needs to dry out and if it's bleeding use diaper rash ointment to create a water barrier to keep the poo away, fastest way to heal rash. A baby brush is helpful if you are bothered by cradle cap but really isn't a necessity, more of a nice helper for moms who obsess about getting the cradle cap off, baby oil helps with that too but I never used it for anything else with all three and the two I watch. If you cosleep then a cradle is a waste and just get a pack and play with a bassinet setting, it will make it easier to help your little one in the middle of the night, you can set it up right next to your bed for the first few months. A glider is nice but not necessary, you'll figure out your own mother's rock both for sitting and standing, instead of a feeding pillow just have extras in the rooms where you might feed them. And have a spot you feel most comfortable holding him for a long time. Keep a phone charger there have a place to put a drink and something to do, a book. A craft, a computer, a list and pencil because you will find yourself holding them asleep and once the awe wears off you'll want to do something. It's also a good place to store that bouncer so you can figure out the transfer. Have water in every room... its easier for nursing and bottle prep. If you chose to do bottles or if you pump and freeze a bottle warmer is a great help in getting them to sleep. Warm milk helps anyone sleep better. You also need maybe 5 toys to start out with, get something silicone they can chew on, something hard they can shake and makes clacking sound they can chew on, and something soft they can cuddle with that isn't bulky because small arms and poor motor skills. If you decide on pacifiers try getting one of three types, the classic shape with the flat end, the entirely round thick rubber type and the MAM ones, three kids and each had a different preference and once you know which they like get one for the car. One for the bag, and one for the bed... and keep one or two for backup when one of those gets lost or broken, because once you start them they are needed for a while. But the main point I'm trying to make is your baby is going to be a person with their own unique qualities. It's better to start out with the basics of blankets. Carseat, onside and a place to sleep, and start with a two or three bottles. Because you're baby is going to pretty good at telling you what they need and it's better to have the money to get the RIGHT stuff than to have the wrong stuff.

Happy mama usually means happy baby!! I agree with all your recommendations!! I never swaddled my babies personally but my besties still swear by it. I got the bugaboo donkey 2 with my third and loved having a bassinet. I used it for the first 6 months and highly recommend it for mommas that are out and about on public transport. Otherwise if you're driving you can just get the car seat to go on your stroller. Oh the snuggle nest! I only got it for my fourth and loved it. And also yes the baby Bjorn bouncer!! Loved it! I have 3 kids and this list definitely checks out! The one thing I would add is that I preferred the stroller that has the car seat attachment. Much easier to transfer little ones in a hurry. Also, baby sleeping arrangements are a personal preference (and were different for each of my kids!). However, this is a GREAT starting point for new moms making a registry. You definitely need very little when you start out. As baby grows, you will decide what they require more of.

Tip for babies taking to bottle, leave them with whoever you trust most while you go out and they'll have no other choice for food supply. I suggest starting this from week one. Just to note I did not do this for my own pleasures, I had to go to the doctors appointment to take out my stitches and the baby could not come with me.

Thanks dear!Super agree..love for all the momms all over the world bringing the new human kin literally...deserves the best of the best and nobody understand untill the have a baby at their belly ..but unfortunately not everyone have so they should to have empathy for something that is imposible to describe and has been just taken as garantee...motherhood just need all the support and love to be more and more healthy and harmony more for the future of the world❤️

I really like the idea of the foam bath mat instead of a big bulky tub! Thank you :)

Couldn't agree more about the diaper bag. I bought the big expensive fawn design bag and it was SUCH a waste. Not comfortable. Small space to work with. I ended up just using those travel compartment bags. Worked great and I just throw it under the stroller.

nice list, but I would not recommend that baby cushion for sleeping. You even said it yourself, they are not recommended for sleeping because your baby can suffocate on them. it's fine if you are with them, but just leaving them for even couple of minutes can be dangerous. I am very glad your baby was OK and nothing happened, but it could've! Please moms, do not use any pillows for babies! also their crib should also be free of any plush toys! If you don't believe me, do your own research ;)

I agree. You can use it during the day or when they are not sleeping, but never use them unsupervised. So don't use them at night for sleeping. Babies will like them, but if you don't use them, they won't get used to it. So it's not even necessary. Although I understand that some people use them, when their baby does not sleep well. But it's still dangerous.

Great video! I'm not as minimalist as some but now expecting my 4th i know exactly what I need. Although I am a suckered for cute clothes lol. I also don't even bother with burp cloths cause I get several receiving blankets from the hospital and use those instead. We thankfully didn't have a shower this time around and I didn't get unwanted items but my mil keeps buying things and trying to give it to me but I dont need them lol

First time grandmother this December. Great list, since it's been so long since I had my own newborn. Also do people often tell you that you look like Winona Ryder so much? You even sound like her. I can't unsee/hear it!

What brand were the pajamas? Zipper pajamas (don't bother with buttons even if they look cute) are a must but I love the built in mittens

Hi Nic! Aw so glad you enjoyed this video. The only pump I used was the haakaa silicon pump which catches the let down. I would often use this at night when freya would sleep for longer stretches in the first 3-4 months otherwise I’d just use up so many breast pads. I froze the milk but freya never took a bottle (I’d get around 4-5 oz) and because I’m home full time with her I never needed her to. Sorry I can’t be more help! Working on a new video now! Will hopefully have it done soon 🤞🏻
