Safari West keepers were concerned when the latest giraffe calf born on the 400-acre wildlife preserve in Santa Rosa showed signs of infection at birth. The team separated the baby and started an IV on her neck for antibiotics and fluids. They also woke before sunrise to feed the calf four times a day. Keepers introduced the baby to mother Malakai on Saturday, July 13, 2024. (John Burgess/The Press Democrat)
