Baby Hippo Fiona - Episode 2 The Struggle - Cincinnati Zoo 

That's the cutest amphibious assault cow I've ever seen.

Fiona: Let me see how long I can hold my breath Whole Zoo Staff: OH GOD NOT AGAIN!

And look at Fiona now - absolutely huge, still adorable & she has a little brother to play with. All the zoo staff & the Children’s hospital staff are amazing.

The children’s hospital of Cincinnati should have little stuffed hippos named Fiona to give the kids who are nervous about procedures and tell them the story of how brave Fiona was and how the children’s hospital staff helped her get better. I know the kids would probably respond well to that.

Fiona: *wiggles her ears* Me: *forgets about the world’s problem*

Bitten by a baby hippo: “It’s an honor, little one.” Bitten by an adult hippo: “OHHHGOOOOODDDDDD”

I love it how, the children's care team stepped in to help. They treated and cared for Fiona, exactly how they would do with a human child/baby.

So impressed how everyone did their part to get this little girl on the path to life as a baby hippo. The end with her in the pool with the pool noodles was so precious 😍

It appears this loaded baked potato is extremely cute

Can you imagine the snuggles with that adorable freaking hippo baby.

No wonder she’s so cute and precious! I didn’t know she came so early and was doted on hard to survive.

Coming out of the hospital last week after spending a week there and having no veins, I can tell you the Vascular Access Team are the badasses of the nursing team.

In my head: “what even are hippos, like why are hippos?” Another commenter: “...amphibious assault cow...” My thought is irrelevant. They’re amphibious assault cows. 100% makes sense to me.

Omgosh, I'm always amazed how teensie she is & survived. Bless this team....

Who's watching this years later? Knowing that Fiona is healthy and beautiful now is amazing

It's a relief to see one of the most dangerous animals in the world in baby form and be comfortable with humans...

Revisiting these Baby Fiona videos in Sept 2022. If I thought Fiona’s caretakers pulled off a miracle back then, I understand that fact 10,000 fold now as I look at Baby Fitz videos. So once again, BRAVO 🎉 🙌

Cincinnati and the rest of the world held our breaths from the moment Bibi gave birth to that prescious little potato. These animals and the zoo crew's are miracles!

I am thankful I am watching this years later knowing she not only made it, but is thriving. ❤ U Fiona! Thank you to all vets and caregivers involved!!!

She’s adorable. Her little (big) yawn was just about the cutest thing ever, until i saw her ears fluttering when her helper kissed her. Ong. She is precious. What a wonderful community to come together and save her. Amazing how small some of the largest animals are at birth. (Polar bears, hippos, erc)

Fiona is so alive! I was 2 months early and survived because of dedicated zoo keepers like you! The problems for early people sound the same as the problems of early Hippos.

This tiny baby had alot of wonderful adoptive moms and dads! Amazing compassionate care!

I had to rewind it twice when Fiona was born because she slid out so fast I didn’t realize that was her at first! All I saw was a blob on the ground and then they were talking about a baby! She’s soooo cute. I was in tears every minute that she was suffering, she’s absolutely adorable! This was such a nice story and what an absolutely amazing group of people at the zoo- definitely a close knit family and genuinely wonderful and kind people. It was so nice to see the doctors from the children’s hospital help Fiona- that was probably the best part. It’s always people helping the children’s hospital, but you never see the other way around so I loved that they showed that since I love animals. Such a sweet and happy story. Thanks for sharing with us! ❤️

I know it's 4 years old but that was an amazing convergence of dedicated professionals, (zoo & related to beings once believed to be too small to survive),who saved that beautiful little hippo, Fiona. As has been said, humanity at its finest.

As someone who wants to be a nurse, I would absolutely think it was the coolest thing if I got called to do an iv on a hippo.

That head natal keeper, Dawn, is just amazing to take the role of mom to help the baby breathe. That is just years of experience and gut feeling. I'm sure a book doesn't tell you to lay down and put a baby hippo on your belly to help it breathe. What a remarkable keeper!

:O That hippo's mom didn't seem to even realize that she was giving birth. Then it was like an immediate adoption lol. Like right when Fiona popped out--and prematurely--her mom just thought "My work here is done."

I am a retired Neo-natal intensive care nurse from the early 1970's. It was the "birth of the NNICU" era, and was the first in the large city I was working in. This video reminds me of those days. I can relive so many of these moments with the zoo staff here. The baby hippo presents with so many other challenges than a human, but some things seemed a little bit easier. I am so happy for this positive outcome because if that hippo had been born in the wild, it would not have survived guaranteed. One thing the staff has that was shared by the staff I worked with, we would NEVER give up. We understood might fail, but never gave up trying. Most of the time we succeeded.

That little open gummy mouth is just too precious! Thanks to everyone that worked and still works with this miracle baby, you have done so much to see that she got the best care available. You are truly wonderful individuals with gentle and caring souls. Bless you and yours and bless Fiona, she has grown into a happy healthy inquisitive hippo.

And now... over 6 years later..... success!!!! ❤❤❤❤ Fiona is beautiful, friendly and healthy!!! ❤❤❤❤ Amazing what love does!!!
