I was on the fence about a 13 year old being charged… but I started babysitting my infant cousins when I was 12 and would’ve never harmed a hair on their heads. They were colicky when sick, cried when ready to be fed, whined before nap time, etc. but even at 12, I never had a thought to physically harm them. 13 is young, but not young enough to not know the difference between right and wrong.

I'll never forget when i was 7 months pregnant with my 2nd child and working as a nurse at a pediatric clinic, a woman brought in her baby saying he was acting weird, but she didn't know what was wrong. I assessed the baby and he was basically non responsive. He had his eyes open but no blinking,shallow breaths, wouldnt grab my finger or anything. Mind you, he was still in his carseat. I continued asking questions to the mom while still assessing the baby. My fear was shaken baby syndrome. She finally admitted the baby wouldn't stop crying and she got frustrated then she threw him against a wall and he fell between the wall and bed. She left him there "like an hour". She said she left him there because he finally stopped crying and she didnt want him to start again. I picked up the carseat and RAN to my mother in law's office (she was charge nurse) and told her to call 911 explaining what i was told. Ambulance was there in 2 minutes. I don't even remember running down the hall with the baby in the carseat. I just wanted to get him away from that monster as quickly as possible. The mother was so nonchalant and matter of fact when telling me what happened. It was like she was as blank stared as her poor baby. The ambulance left without her because the police were already on their way for her. This was 16 years ago and I'll never forget it.

Hey Steve, I was in shelters for like alittle over a year and was never drug tested. Think about it shelters are usually first come first serve unless you get a bed assigned to you after showing up everyday for a certain amount of time. But never drug tested to stay at a shelter for over a year in Boston. But thank God for them cause they helped get me a voucher for an apartment😊

December 10,2010 I lost my son to leukemia. He had just turned 2 Nov. 29,2010. His body rejected the chemo and within in couple days he was gone. For over 10 yrs. I blamed myself! I know I didnt give him leukemia but he was born with fanconi anemia. Its a very rare genetic disorder and for a child to get it both mother and father have to carry the gene. Im an incest child. My grandfather molested my mother and she had me. Im not what most people think an incest child is-mentally and physically challenged. Im not deformed and Im smart. I found out after having my son that an incest child can be perfectly fine but have genetic issues that could skip generations. I had 2 older kids prior to my son that were healthy and beautiful. Once I found out about the genetics could skip a child, I felt it was my fault why my son was born with a genetic disorder. Even though I was adopted by my foster family at 9 and hadnt had any contact with my biological family since, I still felt I was to blame and then when he passed I felt even more guilt! If I hadnt been an incest child then he wouldnt have been born with all these problems that led to his death. It took over 10 yrs. For me to realize and understand what happened to me wasnt my fault! I wasnt asked to be brought into this world having my grandfather as my own biological father. Sitting here watching all these women-I cant grasp how someone can harm a child let alone kill them! I know first hand how it feels to lose a child and the guilt and heart ache. No child is ever asked to be brought into this world and they sure in the hell arent asked to be taken out either!

Leaving your baby with a 13 and 16 year old is risky and you should make sure that they at least have taken the babysitters course. And if you feel like it’s safe to entrust your baby to a 13 and 16 year old then why wouldn’t the 16 year old think that it was safe to leave the baby with the 13 year old for an hour? It’s a shared mistake by the mother and the 16 year old.
