Thank you for the review!! We, just purchased a machine, i am so excited, they were waiting for the shipment, which is tomorrow. I have dealt with this dealer before and they have been wonderful. We, are in the San Fernando valley, in Southern California. Really looking forward to using my new machine. My old machine is now, a senior, and she is really tired tired. Thank you for your honesty, . Gail
Thank you for the review. I purchased the Soprano March 2020. The sensitivity of the "buttons" is extremely annoying, especially when quilting. Seeing you inadvertently hitting the buttons reminded me of my experiences with it. I replaced my Sears Kenmore machine with the Soprano. I've had to replace the foot control jack, otherwise It has worked flawlessly and I love it..
Last night a man I was talking to said he bought his wife a Baby Lock. I have been intending to look into those. Daisy, my late wife, often spoke about baby locks. So today I looked them up. Your presentation was the nicest of two I watched. I just wanted to get some idea of what Daisy was talking about. It was very emotional for me as you brought up terms and features I remember Daisy talking about. I love that you have named your machine. My mom might have done that. Just for fun I want to add in here that one time Daisy made herself a very nice dress to wear to her brother's wedding. She used her treadle machine. I thought that was an accomplishment! Good review with a splendid personality. Thank you.
+Michael Dougfir I can’t tell you just how much your words touched me. I think I would’ve liked to know your Daisy very much. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment.
I have had this machine for the past couple of years. I'm an apparel sewist and its been a workhorse! I don't use the decorative stitches but maybe some day lol.
NaturalDane She’s pretty amazing, I’m so thankful for her. Joann is having door busters and I think Ott kites are on the list for 40-50% off plus the 25% of total purchase (even sale items). Jump on it 👍🏻. I’d love a nice big one for night sewing 🤣🤣
I know exactly what you’re talking about with the Singer machine. I have the same one, and I had the same issues with it! Funny enough, my hubby bought me a Soprano for my birthday too! I just love her! Not only is sewing easier, free motion is easier too! I’m actually about to start free motion quilting my first HUGE quilt later on today!
We just got one. We thought we didn't get the table. It was hidden in the box. Sure glad it has a really long power cord. Thanks for the great video. And that knee thing. Hidden under table. Nice to have all them storage boxes. She says I can use it too. Make ya wonder why they called it a saprano. It's the highest end machine for just what you need.
Hey!! I need a larger machine than the tiny little Brother I got at Walmart. I want to do the free motion quilting. I have been thinking about the Jazz 2 because it has 12 inches of throat space. But it doesn't really have any of the fun features. Do you think the Soprano has enough throat space? I am working on a King size jean quilt right now. I hope you have time to answer my question. Thanks for the video!
I purchased the same machine. Thanks for the review, it was helpful to me. Do you have anymore videos about your Soprano, or do you know of other good videos? Thanks, Marsha
ITS ALL PART OF THE EXPERIENCE. Hi Marsha, I’m glad it was helpful. I haven t created any other videos about the Soprano and I don’t really know of any others. Is there something specific you would like to know, I’d be happy to help if I can?
One of the things I love about Baby Lock is that they stand behind ALL their machines, not just the high dollar ones. It makes me really appreciate their company. I absolutely love mine and I hope you to get to upgrade to the one you want. I took my old singer with me last weekend to a sewing class, because it's easier to transport. Was I ever sorry I did! I had nothing but issues for the first hour of class. Oh well, live and learn haha! Thanks for watching hon
Very nice machine, I am trying to decide On what Brand to Buy between JUKI, Janome, Baby Lock, and Brother. Since this would be my first machine I want something that can do sewing and later on quilting, But I would like to make my own clothes and blankets as well. My budget is about 500-1500, So I'm trying to be frugal as possible. What's the cost of a Baby Lock?
Indiana Girl Shopping around is great. Juki is a great machine as well. I personally am not a fan of brother, I had too many issues with mine. The Baby Lock Soprano was $1800-1900 for me as it was a floor model used at a quilt show, so she was slightly used. I’m not sure what the regular price is. However, March is quilting month in the US and they have decent discounts available on machines during the month. BAlso, Baby Lock just rolled out several new machines that are at a lower price point and have a lot of the features you’re probably looking for. My advice would be to actually go to the dealer and look around and ask them what deals will be available for March. I had to finance mine but I paid it off within the year to avoid the extra interest. I hope that helps! Good luck and I hope you find just the machine you want!
I also have a Baby Lock Soprano and love it, thanks for telling me about the clip on light on the handle.....dark material hard to see. I also added Multifunctional Kit 42 new feet got off amazon for 22 bucks and they fit the low shank machine like the Soprano so now I have lots of feet to sew with. Happy Holidays.
I want this machine so badly. Thank you for this review! This is the best review I’ve seen so far. Two questions: Is this machine quiet? What is the brand of that clip-on light?
I'm looking to purchase the Babylock Soprano. Thanks for reviewing the feet. Was curios of what they consisted of. Can you do continuous feeding of quilt piecing with this machine? Didn't think it has a Accu Feed system which I thought was necessary for that. Can you use rulers with it for quilting designs?
Just watched your video...I have a Baby Lock Symphony and I just love it also! That foot you weren't sure about is to sew buttons on with. I use mine all the time and I love it...so much nicer than hand sewing them on! Thanks for your videos!
Hi viv. I've been watching you for a week and I'm really enjoy your videos. I've enjoyed hearing about your machine. I bought my new machine a week ago. It's identical to yours except it's a brother innovis nv1800q. I found this interesting! Glad you like the machine. I couldn't find much about the machine before I bought it but fell in love. It's features are fab. Love the auto threader, pivot function and 5 alphabets! I've never tried free motion but would like to give it a go sometime.
Hello and thanks so much, it's kind of you to let me know. I have seen that our machines are very similar too! Lauren from Guthrie & Ghani has yours and that's when I noticed it, crazy! The pivot function is something I use daily, in garment sewing and quilting! Free motion is fun, I'm not great at it, I should definitely practice more haha!
Brother and Babylock are both made in the same factory and are cousins. The difference between the two is the fact that Brother holds the Disney Licence. That's all.
You mentioned bag making. I'm looking for a machine that will not only do quilting but also bag making. How does the Soprano fair with multiple layers of denim, vinyl, canvas, etc.?
I love my soprano but she has an error message as of last night =( headed for a 3 hour drive on my day off tomorrow to drop her off to fix it . I went from singer to Baby lock as well saved for manyyears for this baby
She turns 3 in March and I sew on her nearly every day. No regrets, she works like she's brand new. I do take her in for yearly maintenance and I keep her pretty clean from project to project. I hope that helps!
I am looking to purchase a new machine and I am considering the Baby Lock Soprano or Lyric. Could you post a picture of the stitch patterns for the Soprano please?
Candace Sposa Hi Candace, sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. I’ve posted the stitch patterns on my Facebook page so you can click the link and find them there. m.facebook.com/vivianvarble/?ref=bookmarks
Viv, thank you so much. I just saw the pictures on your FB page and commented there. I really enjoyed your video and have subscribed to your channel so I can watch more😊
Francine Flaks Hi Francine, they did indeed. My dealer is amazing, and incredibly helpful. You can also sometimes get the Baby Lock university access. I didn’t get it with my Soprano but it did come with the Imagine. There’s a ton of great info there. I hope that helps.
What did you all pay for it? The soprano is now $400 more than a few year ago. The same machine should not appreciate by nearly 30%, am I right? It’s not a new model.
