Hi Mark - curious how you know the baby is a Great Crested Newt? We have a 10 month old wildlife pond and also have a few newts. Yesterday we also spotted our first baby newt also - curious as to which newts we have.

I wonder if the tubular fish-like creature is the larva of a water beetle.

iv got newts in my pond but dont know if they had baby's i know my tadpoles are getting there legs now as i have a small pool with some in and i can see them swimming about

I use go-pro's but have recently purchased one of these (sorry for the copy and paste) DEPSTECH Industrial Endoscope, 5.5mm 1080P HD Digital Borescope Inspection Camera 4.3 Inch LCD Screen IP67 Waterproof Snake Camera with 6 LED Lights, 16.5FT Semi-Rigid Cable,32GB Card. May be worth having a look as these are waterproof and you can watch / record the footage. With 16ft of cable you can attach it to a pole and perhaps get better views / footage without the go pro bulk. Could the tubular "thing" be a soldier fly larvae? check out Jason Steel pond life. ATB.
