My rabbit is a first time mother, I saw how much she takes her time to build a nest and how many fur she pull out of her body and how she love and cared for them. But unfortunately due to being first time mom she accidentally stepped on three of them. Only 4 survived and now their almost 2 months and they're all female. I find it cute because they all snuggle up to each other and licking each others fur.
@@bboutdooradventures491 Argh! The negativity is astounding! I wish I would have seen the video of the on the wire babies when I first started breeding angora rabbits. New rabbit moms can be so great, or need a bit better mom skills. I plan on watching more of your videos and certainly will recommend this video for everyone on my channel. Perhaps one day we can do a collaboration on RU-vid. :)
My heart's heartbroken to see the babies died!!! 😩 I just adopted a 2days-old bunny and i keep on praying every night to see this little cutie alive when i wake up 😩😩🥺🥺
Question for anyone who could help. I have a first time mom she gave birth on the wire. I warmed all 4 up and put them in the nesting box. She has not pulled hair and already went poop in the box. This is a VERY bad sign. Should I bring all 4 in and just take over? I have everything I need to do it. I know momma is always the best tho. Thanks for any help!
URGENT ADVICE NEEDED. My pet rabbits just had their first litter, but one baby was born outside the nest. I found it on day 2 (ice cold) and put it on the rabbit’s heating pad for about 20 minutes; thankfully it started moving once warm. I didn’t have formula, so I put it in the nesting box with it’s much more active/warm siblings. I’m concerned it’s not strong enough to latch onto mama. Should I nurse it on my own or should mama be able to nurse it back to health?? Help!
@@BigMerkGee It lived. We didn’t lose any kits from that litter. Mama rabbit knew her job and did it well. Afterwards we sexed them and put males in one pen and females in another pen. A couple of yards of chicken wire is cheaper than getting 8 rabbits spayed/neutered. Lol.
I like your babys and videos I know that it is hard to lose babys I lost 16 just 5 days ago 😢 Sorry for your loss I feel bad good luck in the future with the first time mom hope see has babys again the
Ya, we definitely have different standards when it comes to humans and livestock. I also wouldn’t kill my friend and eat him but we kill and eat our livestock all the time.
I noticed how you both nesting boxes right next to each other towards the the center where the cages me et Maybe keep each on the left side Move the nesting box for the mother that put the babies on The wire to the left side So the nesting boxes are not right next to each other maybe the mother didn't feel comfortable Being next to other rabbit When giving birth Possible solution?
Ummmm you can sometimes save those babies born cold..put them in a gallon freezer bag (leave it open) and run some water over the bag slowly increasing the temperature to warm them up. They are not actually dead until their bodies are completely warm & they aren’t responding…
I would definitely try warming them up next time, even if only some of them come back to. It's crazy because even if they are frozen solid and seem totally dead, they can come back around. I've seen it happen. You know for sure that they are dead if they have purple blood in thier nails. It might be worth a try. Sorry you lost the litter. 😔
@@sarahg9895 we did try to save the rabbits but we were not video taping at the time. But looking back it would have been a better video if I had shown that. I know that there will be opportunities in the future for me to show a rabbit come back from what appears to be dead.
Putting this question to rabbit owners, is there a possible problem if babies are born on a wire bottom nest box? She used the box but lost one that had a pinkish fluid under its skin. I'm concerned that there might be a reaction to the hardware cloth.
Well thanks for it thanks for the info I'm learning about baby rabbits and she had them but they didn't make it so I put it next thing box in there now but hopefully she'll go in there and have them she's putting her hair in it
I remembered my rabbit first time she didn't made a ness I tried asking her to build one bc my rabbit kinda understand me but she didn't know how do her the next day I saw a baby rabbit on her cage I was so happy until I touch the baby it was frozen solid :( but the second time she gave born and the baby was healthy buy it died to BC my rabbit didn't know what to do after she only knew how to make a nest, the third time I think it will be successful BC she build a nest and feed her baby we always check the baby everyday they actually 7days today tomorrow they will be 8 days old!
My rabbit had her first litter yesterday and she had no idea what she was doing she had her first baby then started testing after that baby and 4 hours later she had 6 more
That’s pretty smart. Some may find it disgusting and I don’t think I could watch that lol but if you can I’m jealous cuz that’s really good way to reduce waste.
I had one that was first time mom that gave birth to one single kit it was huge 😳 and she didn't make a nest either I have some that use their nesting box as a litter box makes me crazy what can I do about it
There's all kinds of rabbit keeping methods that are far better than (the worst cage selection possible). Wire is no no in general for rabbits feet, let alone.. babies could get stuck or pinched and squished between them. I'm honestly not surprised at all of the outcome for these wire babies. I wouldn't use that box either if i was the mom, it's full of the non-soft sharp blade straw. Like that's not even Timothy hay.
Bring the frozen kits indoors and warm them up. They HAVE been known to come back. Also, I disagree with "first time mom" thing... something bothered her, you have vermin, or preds, or simply rearranged cages, or rabbits.... inexperienced is not a word rabbits know. Rabbits know to reproduce. They also know how to survive, if the nest or environment changed or seemed threatening, they WILL abandon the nest, kindle outside the nest, stop nursing, stomp and even eat the offspring, to save their life, to reproduce again. It's not brutal, its survival. Make your Rabbitry as safe feeling as possible for your animals.
One of my first time MR mamas had a litter of 5, 1 was just too big and died, 1 was born on the wire, 1 she ate everything exept the head and ribs, and the other two she just abandoned. I hope she does better this year
Yeah my rabbit was a first time mom about 1-2 months ago. She had 8 of them. They all passed. 2 of them came stillborn, I buried the 2 and left the rest in her cage with her with extra bedding and hay. She ate both arms and one leg off of one including it’s ear and tail, she ate the ear and tail off of another, and just the tail off of another one. I separated them because she did that and she wasn’t feeding them and stepping on them a lot. Gave them a heating pad and tried to feed them on my own. None of them wanted to eat and when they did it was rarely. They all passed within 3 days. I was hoping by the last baby maybe that one would survive, but it didn’t. It was one of the worst and hardest 3 days for me emotionally. Couldn’t get any sleep and cried so much everyday I’d lose another one or two of them. I’d gotten so attached to those babies that fast and lost them all in a blink of an eye.
Its a disgrace that rabbits have to live on wire, people that do have them, should be totally ashamed of themselves, if they are meat rabbits, dont you think they deserve a decent life...
These rabbits are born with thick fur under their feet to deal with wire due to years of breeding. It is better for them to live on clean un-harmful wire instead of wood. Living on wood constantly can be harmful on their back feet and is unsanitary because the urine and feces can go anywhere. Though I do think they do need more space in their cage, in order to stretch and run, it is pretty sad that the bunnies have no toys or things to chew on if they are bored.
@@isabella-iz6ee thick fur or not they can develop sore hocks from living on wire/if the hutches are cleaned out on a routine basis the urine and feces shouldn't be a problem
Considering the survival rate of wild rabbits per litter. Your don't have any connection to farming based of your comment. No sense of food to table process. Why even comment
The proper flooring for a rabbit is wire flooring. Thick wire but wire. They should have a way to get off wire, like a ceramic tile, but wire. I have made many many cages with many many different flooring options. The best for the rabbit is a wire floor.
I tried to tell him that he replied back that wire is fine for bunnies no it is no wonder he's in ending up with dead bunnies obviously he doesn't know what he's doing with bunnies
Never ever use a heat lamp. But a 60w buld can help. Rabbits do not need the excessive heat from a heat lamp. And don't forget how many barns, chicken coops, sheds, rabbitries, have burned down.
your fault the baby bunnies died, if you would have cared more, you wouldn't be using a wired cage, if you were a rabbit, you want walk all over cage wires?
