It is a fairlycommon thing when Finns speak English. Not all of them speak English that way but many of them do. I've been going back and forth to Finland for decades already and still I love it everytime I hear it.
@@Kotifilosofi definitely! But also your view of other people and yourself. Don’t take everything so seriously and don’t think high of yourself and anyone. It’s kind of what we here in Denmark have called janteloven. I don’t know if finns have something similar but they seems to be very down to earth but also hilariously funny.
also do note that they have some of the highest suicide rates in the world so you could also argue that all the sad people die so only the "happy" ones are left.
This video shows the tenancity and the spirit of someone who doesnt let a language barrier stop himself from connecting to the rest of the world. The fact he is continually trying to speak the language, despite knowing he isnt able to deliver 100% is what we should all be striving for when we travel to another country. We love you Käärijä ❤
He really helped me to overcome my fear of speaking wrong english in front of others who can speak it very well. I think many people have the problem that they do understand a lot of english because of movies or memes on the internet but aren't used to speak it, so they fail succesfully in speaking it even though they understand a lot.
@@Helena-sg5st That is so true for me too, 100%. I can read and listen to english perfectly fine, and write ok too, but talking ... not so much, that's a totally different story. I'm glad he can represent everyone in the same situation, and good for you overcoming your fear :) I believe most people may be better than they think, but are afraid of sounding stupid and being judged. That's the case for me at least. Luckily käärijä is super charming, which helps a lot, haha :) More people should learn from this guy, and not care so much what other people think.
@Katia Cienciala As someone who got encouraged to keep learning Italian due to Måneskin, I can tell you: there will be a flood. Like at one point, we all gathered in a comment section and gave our Duolingo accounts to keep an eye on each other lol.
it's so funny to see eurovision fans finding out about ralli-english. it's a thing. and it has a very simple explanation, finnish is always pronounced exactly how you spell it, meanwhile english is not. therefore, finns speaking english have trouble pronouncing english words "properly" cuz it goes against our natural instincs of how words should be pronounced. and yes, käärijä is very cute and i am very proud of him for trying his best at english even tho he knows he's not the best at it.
I speak excellent English but somehow I'm proud when we send people who don't speak English much at all like Patrik Laine and Käärijä to represent us abroad. It feels good, like how Japanese and French people don't need to speak English. It feels like a privilege to only need to speak your own language while being a world champion in something. Finnish rally drivers are famously bad at English and it's an example of this too, although they actually often speak very good English, just the pronounciation is very Finnish. I also know many university researchers whose pronounciation is horrible... I almost feel proud of it. They're still excellent in their field and speak professional academic English, just with very Finnish accent. I almost feel like a simp for speaking English so good.
I am not sure if this is the case. I mean if the reason behind the difficulty is that finnish is pronounced exactly how you spell it. Greeks also pronounce words the way they are spelled but they don't do the same mistakes. However, they have one of the worst accents when speaking English. Finnish accent in english is so cute
Does it also have something to do with English stress patterns? As a native English speaker there are some words that I've known all my life and still if you asked me to say them out loud I'd stumble over which syllables to stress. Is that an added challenge because Finnish stress patterns follow much stricter rules?
I've figured out that the problem is not a lack of vocabulary, but the way he can't finish a sentence without bursting into laughter 😂 *EDIT: Holy heck 1k! Thanks for the attention & be kind to everyone, fans and artists alike 💜
"only finish làngwaghe" (don't even know how to emulate in writing the way he pronounced it) Käärija is a great example of speaking without fear :D So charming
Finnish is a phonetic language so every letter is pronounced the same way every time. He said it like it would be read in finnish lol (as a finn I'm guilty of doing the same thing)
He pronounced it how it's written, letter by letter without applying the rules of English pronunciation. It's not hard to grasp why non fluent speakers pronounce English words like that.
That's because the languages are related very distantly! There's some super old common ancestor that Finnish and Hungarian people share so it has traveled through pronunciation
@@THEcowboy367 Yes, now that heard some finnish expressions, I am totally convinced that our language is related. There are some words that are almost the same
I honestly wasn’t a big fan of the song at first but this guy is so honestly funny and adorable that I actually began to like the song and now it’s my Number 2 from this year xD
@@MrWereWolfGirl SAME For me it's like: I'm not a party person, but he sounds like he's the funniest guy at parties and I'd sure as hell come if he was there haha
I'm from Eastern Europe and part of an ethnic minority so I actively learn and speak 3 foreign languages and he reminds me of how I try manage to make myself understood mixing 4 languages at once 😭
@@batmansparents3408 the fact that you know 4 languages, you are (both) Batman`s parents and you have Double Trouble on your avatar, makes this comment beautifully chaotic.
@@TayaRamadan-wy1fz Yes I am! It depends on the region, but where I'm from it's mostly 50%-50% (hun-ro) plus we have a several romani communities. But there are counties where I suppose about 90% of the population is hungarian (especially in Székelyföld, I don't know if you're familiar with this term), nevertheless there several places without any hungarian citizens, or so little that it isn't worth mentioning.
As a Finn I find it really funny that people from abroad are finally noticing us and it’s through a funny guy speaking on our accent (and just broken English) Xd
Käärijä also speaks some Swedish in this video. 00:47, "vi ses" is Swedish for "see you later". 😊 03:55 "heja Sverige" means "go Sweden". 04:57 and 05:06 he says Sverige = Sweden again. 🙂 Sverige = Swedish name for Sweden. Ruotsi = Finnish name for Sweden. (His Swedish pronunciation is excellent by the way). 💗
@@soul4speech583 Most basically sleep through their obligatory classes in school and couldn't find a toilet in Sweden without resorting to English, though, so him being that good at it _is_ somewhat noteworthy.
@@broadbandislife the vocabulary he uses in swedish here is basically just all of the words people who sleep through mandatory swedish know though lol. most finns just use english in sweden because swedes make fun of the way we pronounce swedish since we get taught finnish-swedish and not 'real' swedish.
@@stinks7065As a Swede I'm actually sad to hear that you get treated that way. I admire anyone speaking Swedish when they come here, especially if they've just learnt it at school. That's like me speaking German (not very well), I know how it feels lol.
@@stinks7065 just a thought. finnish-swedish is real swedish too tho and works perfectly well in sweden. i however (as a finnish-swede) find it funny when i speak perfect swedish in sweden and the locals try to speak finnish with me or ask me how i learned swedish.
@@evamuhlbauer4575 I think he pronounced it like that because he knew he couldn't pronounce it right. That way you could at least recognise the word and understand it. (Längvits would be the alternative)
As a English speaker and sadly only English speaker the language barrier does nothing less then make me love him more. He's crazy, he's party, and he's fucking amazing
Not every artist speaks English and I respect the boy for trying to speak clearly and reasonably understandable, even though he is aware of his shortcomings in vocabulary.
As a native English speaker I understand everything he is saying or trying to say. For someone who can’t speak English he can communicate and generally understand. I can only do this with French while listening but bottle speaking it. We English natives are the worst in the world at learning any language and I wish I had learned one from being a child. It’s just not taken seriously here unless you were sent to some private school
He understands the language quite well, from what I've seen he fairly rarely asks for translation. He just doesn't speak well, because he never had to. He said so in interviews, his only use of English before this were English speakers asking for kitchen equipment. This is common, but unlike most people in his position, Jere is not afraid to try anyway 💕
I think he's the first Finnish or Scandinavian person in general I've ever seen who doesn't speak perfect English ... and it's adorable. Now I finally now what a Finnish accent sounds like 😂
First Finland produces Ismo, by far the funniest comedian of all time, and now this legend, Käärija, with whom l have a bizarre sort of obsession. When combined with some of the other wonders this country has produced, such as salmiakki and sauna and adorable accents, Finland might become the coolest nation in Europe.
Start learning Finnish (or a different language if you are Finnish, couldn't tell from your username lol). I guarantee you can experience what it's like trying to speak a language you are not familiar with at all plus you get to keep your fluent English
I absolutely love the Finnish accent it’s so cool, I’ve been wanting to learn Finnish but it’s so dang hard, translating Finnish to English is already difficult just in general, as most Nordic languages are, but he is literally doing great I love it sm
Him trying to say representing was me trying to say “riimukirjoitukset“ when I was learning about the Vöyrin riimukirjoitukset I was sitting for like fifteen minutes trying to say it 😭
i love how he gets confidence every time he says 'yes yes', like he encourages himself with it 😭💚 ps: from 1:43 to 2:27 is one of my favorite videos in the world :')
He is a very open-minded person! and it's okay if he doesn't speak perfect English, the main thing is that he easily overcomes this barrier. I know that Finnish is a very difficult language because they have more than 9 cases. Greetings from Ukraine and thank you for your exciting performance!)
As someone who is about to graduate as an ELT professional, I'm absolutely enthralled by him trying speaking a barely known language for a big audience. The audacity 🤌✨
He is such a sweetheart! He does English quite well. I have tried many languages and do terrible at them. I love Finland people were very nice and helpful when I visited.
I hope he tours the U.S. At some point - or that i get a chance to go watch him in concert in Finland!! He's my favorite artist💚💚 (and the reason i'm learning Finnish)
I just love, love, love him 😄💚 I'm originally from Finland, and I remember so many Finns being afraid to speak English, in case they make a mistake.. Even native speakers make mistakes, so there's no reason to be afraid! Käärijä is perfect, for doing his best, communicating, and being understood! 💚 Who cares, if there are mistakes, and mispronounced words - in fact, that even adds to his charm 🙂✨ And, he's encouraging so many people with his example! I just love everything about him. He brings joy 💚
Ahh i have english tommorrow...watch me fail miserably because im infected with 'its crazy its party' and the cute little 'yes yes' käärijä i would like my heart back please...its not nice to steal
