I wish they had released more soundtracks from season 1, specifically Signs and Portents, Babylon Squared, A Voice in the Wilderness and And the Sky Full of Stars.
B5 was all about the spoilers. When the B4 two parter happened JMS said 'it's not about the final destination, but the whole journey leading there that's the important part of the story.'
Considering how intact the station is with no battles or anything else going on I would guess that is from the decommissioning after John left the station.
This future is what would have happened had he not taken B4 into the past. All of the sacrifices would have been for naught. Several flashes show the invasion of B5 had the shadows been stronger after the last great war. They would have been more aggressive and moved less slowly, not more. Garabaldi sets the fusion reactor to explode during the siege and we see the shuttle escape. This was a warning and supposed to be part of THE major arc for the series had Michael O'Hare not have to leave the show. Instead we get this in S3 and are lucky to have had a glimpse of it at all. How epic it would have been to have the shadow war S4, reclaiming Earth in S5, and the series finale being the revelation of Valen. Real life stuff happens and this show is still crazy amazing. JMS's legacy and impact on sci-fi is underappreciated and awe inspiring to those of us that can see what he did, what he saw, and what he accomplished despite all of the challenges. Thank you JMS, your vision had more of an impact on me than you will ever know.
@@paulkoshetar8050 There is one problem with that. If this was that siege there would be shadow vessels attacking and damage to the ship. The original plan was that if the ratings were really good then they could *stretch the story out* longer than five years. This would result in Babylon 5 ending in season five in the *middle of the various wars* with the Babylon 5 station being destroyed in the last episode, I think it was the Mimbari that were going to attack it amidst their civil war between castes. And then the story would *continue in a new series* called Babylon Prime, it would have been based on the Babylon 4 station that they would time travel to hijack to bring to the future. With the less than stellar ratings they got in season one this was abandoned and they settled in for just the single five year story we now know, the season three story War Without End then retcons the destruction of the station that is repeatedly foreshadowed through season one to be what will happen if Sinclair doesn't steal the Babylon 4 station and take it back a thousand years to the first Shadow war. They didn't show the battle going on and just kept the camera close up to the station to conceal who is attacking it and to also keep their options open if they chose to not pursue the Babylon Prime idea, which they ultimately did. You'll notice in Babylon Squared when Sinclair has a flash forward to the station under attack we also don't see who is responsible.
As she said, The future is always changing. So the vision might have been something we never saw in the series but an event that might have taken place had things lined up a different way.
People always talk about reboots or revivals but it wouldn't be possible with most of the cast dead. One thing that would work as well as a reboot is to do an animated film. They'd have to find an actor whose voice is similar to Sinclair but you could have him on screen.
I like Michael O'Hare and was saddened to find he was replaced from the second season.(watched it back in the day when it was first aired) It was even sadder when, many years later, I learned of his mental health issues and struggles with bipolar disorder, which was the reason he decided to step away from the series after S1. His screen presence and voice always give me goosebumps.
I remember seeing this back in the day and was awestruck at the possible tragedy. Then, in War Without End, we saw it again, possibly with the Shadows being too powerful. But in the end, it happened anyway, after everything Babylon 5 set out to achieve and more, and it was simply decommissioned and detonated to prevent it being a hazard to shipping. Interesting, really.
Yes, right down to the one shuttle leaving right before the destruction. A fine job of showing the many possible outcomes which looked the same in that one moment. B5's end was heartbreaking, but only for the past. As Ivanova pointed out, it changed the future.
It also brings us to the episode when the last Emperor of Centauri pre-war asked Kosh on his death bed how will it end. He responded “in fire” and with B5 along with Earth it ended in that way.
they don't avoid it though. It comes to pass, but its not out of anger, not out of hate. Its not out of war, not some great enemy destroying the station. Its the fact that its not needed anymore. They decommission it shut the lights off one last time, then the shuttle exits as the demolition charges destroy the station. some visions may not be what you think
You make a good point…. I’m not sure that in this instance that this is the case though. We were lead to believe that it was because of the Shadows attacking the station. At least the foreshadowing and forward flashes during Babylon Squared and War without end point to this being the case. I’m happy to be corrected though, if anyone knows a bit more.
@@matthewcorcoran2891 they show that as the ending of the station... 1 million years in the future.. as humans leave the sol system for the last time... before the earth sun goes supernova... humans now... evolving into vorlon like beings of energy.
final scene from final episode B5 was scuttled at the end of a long and illustrious career. Im guessing THAT is what she saw and simply misinterpreted the vision.
That's how they *eventually* wrote and filmed it, although it wasn't the original plan (see elsewhere). In any case, that's the problem with interpreting prophecy: lack of context throws off everything.
Season 1 and scenes likes this are like getting a glimpse into an alternate universe where both the Babylon 5 series and station ended and the sequel series Babylon Prime came to be. It probably wouldn't have worked out in the long run, nor gone as deep in the storytelling, but ten full seasons of the Babylon 5 universe would have been an interesting journey.

They did four more series, and this vision of the station blowing up is actually the deliberate decommissioning of Babylon 5 more than twenty years later, from the final episode.

Agreed, if they are doing a reboot, let it take place at a time period between the end of the Crusade, and the final destruction of the station with new character's.
How will this all end? In fire vision of station being destroyed a possible future station is destroyed to decommission it ending in fire earth is destroyed in a supernova thousands of years in the future ending in fire
