@@slaytronic cleary you know nothing about them, the treat each other with the most respect, the kami band is well known today because of the girls, and the girls are big today because of them too, that's why babymetal is one of the biggest bands today.
@@slaytronic I've seen "serious" bands with high level musicians, playing to 200 people. I think they are doing well on a successful project and that they value their skills
Yeah I'm here for the musicians. The vocalists are background for me. But this is also the only song I know by the band and I don't speak Japanese, so...
Pasting from a kind youtuber: "For those that don't understand Japanese, this song is about "kakurenbo", the Japanese version of hide-and-seek. Except they are playing it with an Oni (a mythical creature that usually gets translated as *demon*). You hear the Oni say "mo ikai" (are you ready) and the girls reply "mada da yo" (not yet) which is kakurenbo's version "ready or not here I come". They are playfully teasing and toying with the Oni by running from it (represented by the signature dance) and saying "oni-san kochira" (this way Mr. Oni) and "te no naru ho e" (follow my clapping)."
The guys in the band have some very serious musical chops. They look like schooled musicians and very seasoned professionals with phenomenal skill. This is why to me, Babymetal are no joke.
No matter what you think about Babymetal overall, I feel like any music lover should just take a step back and look at this video and just describe what's happening in it. There's an entire arena of people rocking the fuck out, a giant custom stage setup that's fox and occult themed, a live band of some of the best session guys in the business, and some cute Japanese girls saying Hi and making people want to rip the chairs out of the building. It's so awesome I'm not even capable of explaining it with words.
I'm with you 100%, Japan is just awesome, I'm stuck in Asheville NC, but my heart is in Japan Eric Barner 私は100%あなたと一緒です、日本は本当に素晴らしいです、私はノースカロライナ州アッシュビルに閉じ込められていますが、私の心は日本にあります エリック・バーナー
The first time I saw a vid of them I was like "WTF?" Now I'm hooked. The weird combination of Loligoth cuteness, pop-dance choreography and bonafide heavy metal music makes a weird logic all its own. It's like getting the shit kicked out of you by a leather-clad Hello Kitty.
Absolutely same reaction here. Saw their video once back in around 2014 I think, and had a bit of a cringe. But after COVID lockdown watched one of the videos with Kami band intros, and there’s been no going back. The quality of the live music and Suzuka’s singing, complemented by the girls dancing (Su included) is what was refreshing to experience. Not to mention their crowd control!
@@Hanbaolaoshi never seen a 7 string bass, I couldn't imagine anyone being able to play a 7 string because I own a 6 string and the base of the neck is 5" wide
@@JRock3091 That's why I was shocked, to be honest, I also play bass and couldn't wrap my mind around it.......but I also looked closer, and turns out I was wrong......
I discovered Babymetal about 6 years ago (I'm a 50 year old rock music fan since my teens) and have been a big fan ever since (seen them a couple of times live and they're fantastic), after a while you start listening to other "weird Japanese metal" until it becomes the norm. Now when I listen to some of the rock music I grew up with I find it really bland compared to what these guys are doing now 🤘
I like showing people gimme chocolate as an introduction to baby metal because it starts soo heavy and then they start singing and your brain is like what the heck lol If you want another less cute but strangely entertaining band check out lady baby lol
@@wesleyfreezeland8140 yep gimme chocolate especially the video is always a good intro to the band (it was one of the first things I heard) but there's so much great music they've done I'd not even have it in my top twenty Babymetal tracks any more. Some amazing songs such as Megitsune, ljime Dame, Zettai, headbanger, Road of resistance (that's another epic video) the list goes on. And yes I think RU-vid recommended LadyBaby straight away, they're quite good fun. Then I saw some more recommendations and up came Maximum the Hormone...😳😍😳 , check them out if you haven't already, incredible
It seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about BABYMETAL. Here is a little background. About 10 years ago, the three girls were in a kind of specialty middle school called Sakura Gakuin. The two younger girls, Yui and Moa auditioned for the school because Sū, who was already a well-known performer, was there. SG was a school for young women who wanted to be performers. Sū was already an actor and the younger girls shared her enthusiasm. They are actors who sing and dance. When they perform they are not simply singing and dancing, but they are also acting out a story. For example, Gimmie Chocolate is part of a story in which the younger girls are corrupted by demons and eventually turned into wax figurines. The older girl outwitted the demons, rescued the other two and flew away in a heavy metal arc to a place of safety. The song is about the time they became fixated on chocolate, which was the first step in a sequence of temptations that led them to their doom. The song in this video is about three young girls that are playing a game of hide and seek with a demon. If any one of them lose that one will be carried off by the demon never to be seen again. Anyhow, about 12 years ago, one of their teachers asked them about heavy-metal and they said they knew nothing about it. So they were given a project of inventing heavy-metal from some very basic ideas. It was just supposed to be a class project, but somebody made a cell phone video of their presentation and within a year they had fans all over the world. Everything that BabyMetal does on stage flowed from that idea. The girls have written only one song, Song 4. The rest were written by others, the music was written by others. There is a lot of reference to an homage of heavy-metal Japanese music in BABYMETAL music. There’s also a lot of homage in reference to heavy-metal music from all over the world. However, the girls are the ones who develop the dances. They have a choreographer who certainly played a big role but most of the input came from the girls themselves. When Su-metal, the taller one with the big mic, performs she is acting in a role as she sings the song. As a result she conveys a lot of emotion through her voice and I feel that is one of her main qualities. She has been singing in this way since 2007. The two younger ones mainly express themselves through dance. These kids paid their duesThey have bee performing all over the world for over ten years. They went on their first world tour while the younger two were still in middle school! They have accomplished things that most people thought were impossible. They had the first Japanese-language hits in the US in decades. They’ve had a tremendous influence on the music industry. Right now because of the Covid situation they are not performing much. But they’re hoping to come back to the stage soon, because they are troupers.
Nice one - absolute fair play to them to be able to pursue their dreams - I played in a semi-successful signed rock band for years and never got close to this and I admire them for making it all the way to the top - they are a credit to their parents and families - top lasses (y)
.....with a _Demon._ Hide and Seek with a Demon. An important distinction. My brother is a metalhead. I played this for him, and he had three distinct reactions. 1) DAMN THAT BASSIST! 2)WTF AM I LISTENING TOO? 3) Headbanging with a quizzical look on his face.
Babymetal can make a song about anything and it will sound amazing. Chocolate, hide and seek, nightmares, vixens, and of course, *literally the number 4* (how do they make a song about the nunber 4 AND HAVE A REGGAE SECTION???)
I think they do that on purpose. To me the greatest one was right in the middle of Tales of the Destinies Yui and Moa, broke into a little light-hearted dance which seemed like it was from the 1930s and then went immediately back into the massively complex heavy metal music.
It's actually done on purpose, this song is based on a children's story 青鬼と赤鬼, or the story of the red and blue ogre. The ogres only want friends and when the children run from them the red ogre goes to find (and subsequently kill) them, while the blue ogre brings sense to the red ogre. Hense かくれんぼ, or hide and seek
as an old school metal fan I can appreciate some good theater. reminds me of Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, White zombie etc.. the energy of this band makes me want to jump in that pit. Thank you ladies for keeping Metal alive.🤘
being old, and not even understanding a word they sing; this music makes me happy and young again. Love the theatrics. (been jumping around in my living room)
This was my introduction to Babymetal. After several minutes of saying "What the f is this?", my next thoughts were "They're really cute." and "I think I like this." Now I'm a Babymetal fan for life.
I'm so happy to hear that! Please watch these interviews, but please be careful, I fell into a deep love pit because of it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-91miSpVBYO8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dbODbQMm5Wc.html
I think I had a similar reaction a few yrs ago when I tripped over Babymetal. One way to sum them up, which I heard a YT reaction vlogger say on her first exposure is: "It shouldn't work, but it does."
They are keeping metal alive for newer generations and I respect that .This is not everyone’s cup of tea coz they can’t accept these 3 younglings are better and different then most of present metal bands. Kudos to the whole band
These 3 younglings are only the singers for the band but yes they are different from anything I've ever seen and the band is pretty damn good. There is only one Babymetal
Metal is perfectly fine, it doesn't need to be "kept alive" by Babymetal, there are literally thousands of new and good bands playing metal of all kinds, metal is not supposed to get pop(ular).
Take it from the old school headbanger who discovered heavy metal back in 1983 and is likely old enough to be some people here's father; most metalheads hate, fear, and dread anything that brings something new and different to the table. Me, I'm easily bored and have always appreciated different kinds of music all my life, so I'm not surprised I appreciate Babymetal as much as I do. This is something fresh, new, and unique, and I love it for that reason. Yeah, yeah, I know, they're packaged, bla bla yadda yadda--I don't care. What band isn't, these days? Got news for some of you out there; one of the reasons that most bands sound alike these days in particular is the total lack of innovation and uniqueness forced upon them by the music biz, and that was one of the reasons I bailed on the music biz many, many years ago. Bands are made to play what sells records, like it or not, and I'm just glad that the Japanese music biz at least is open to trying new things AKA throwing things at the wall and working with whatever sticks. That's what makes it unique and interesting, to me. Faisal, I think you're right!
The early "Catch me if you can" and "Headbanger", with Yui and Mikio will always be my favorites! So exciting! (I am a 71 year old classic rock lover.)
The smile on Mikio Fujioka's face at the beginning of this video is what made me keep watching this, my first exposure to Babymetal. I first saw this video in 2021, had never heard of them, and was totally blown away by this video-then the Biker Hello Kitty Girls show up, and I became a fan. Then I saw the Gimme Chocolate video. Sadly, I had no idea that Mikio Fujioka had already passed 4 years before I had first seen him, and 7 years (today) before I found out. RIP, sir.
@@Arthur_Rodri The first BBM video I saw was the official version of Road of Resistance. Three little girls come out and proceed to lay claim to the stage by planting their flags. Then they advance to a smaller stage deep within the audience, where Su-Metal proceeds to recruit thousands of fans into her Heavy Metal army. I was blown away by the extreme detail in staging, the absolute synchronization of the music, the singing, the dancing, and the lights. Then, I found out how young they were. 😳
The first time I saw them I was like wtf did I just watch but now I really am hooked on this band!! The vocals (I admit I don’t know what they are saying) are absolutely hypnotizing & add the right amount of pop to the heavy drum, driving bass & that guitar!! Overall the band has amazing sound & the choreography is mesmerizing
First time I seen gimme chocolate like 8 years ago or something I was in the same boat... wtf is this? I can't get it out of my head and now I'm just a huge fan. People can't understand what I'm blaring down the road while on my motorcycle but I don't care haha
Yup, I had a friend beg me to go and give a free ticket, and he had good taste in music, so I agreed. I went in expecting a meme band, and I walked out forever changed. There's no other band on Earth like Babymetal, it's a love letter to heavy rock that just gives zero fucks about whether it conforms to that genre's stereotype. Which to me is metal as fuck.
Whoever created this band, was and is, a genius. I've listened and watched this video everyday, and I am not tired of it. This is my favorite song, and video.
When you watching BABYMETAL on stage, you are seeing the people that created the dance. Also, the girls are actors who can sing and dance. So, when Su-Metal belts out those ballads, she’s usually not just singing a song. She’s playing a character. I think this is why one reason why BABYMETAL can sing songs and Japanese all over the world and people can respond. They’re not just singing words but conveying emotion to the audience. It’s simply amazing.
It was their teacher when they were still in school. The 3 of them didn't know metal at that time and their teacher showed it to them and that's how a school project came about, someone filmed it and put their performance on the internet, which made a lot of people enthusiastic about it and now we're here
Девчата со своими музыкантами отжигают по полной!Хоть они и давно поют,но я для себя открыл эту шикарную группу только в этом году и считаю одной из лучших групп!
I'm an old hard rocker from way back, this isn't really to my taste and isn't what I'd listen to much, but I definitely appreciate it and understand why it has such a big following, it's great to see so much creativity and positivity and so many people enjoying it, I'm happy that this exists.
Yeap totally different bit yet has the metal influence as a Japanese style ,other countries has the meatl influence and they make own style still on the metal influence
All three of their harmonics are unreal, how they get their pitch's to coincide to a SPEED METAL band is on a whole other level of talent. Really wish I jumped on the hype train years ago.
One of the greatest bands ever. Their breakdowns were crazy amazing and then when they join it all together, it became heaven tier. I wish more bands were like them.
Ain't it great? Yes, I know, it's packaged, and I don't care. The girls work hard to put on a great show, and when you get dudes like Rob Zombie taking your back, well, who cares what the haters say?
"It's like getting the shit kicked out of you by a leather-clad Hello Kitty" LMFAO I can't stop watching them, I'm hooked. Really talented musicians and the production is genius! More, please!
I literally never get tired of watching these videos of BABYMETAL live just cause the shows look like they'd be so fun to watch haha. Please come back to America when i have money 😭
I saw them live at a festival. Half the crowd was moshing the other half was standing there with dumb looks on their faces like they couldn't decide if they loved it or hated it.
I just found this band and I have too many good things to say about them. But this video specifically when each band member got their solo. I have neeeeeever seen or heard a bassist shred like that. I went 😧 and obviously their drummer will melt your face off 🤩
for me pits are terrifying :[ just imagine slipping and having everyone step on you! then again im still super new to the metal scene so if anyone could tell me about mosh pits i’d appreciate it!
Number one rule in the pit is if someone falls YOU PICK THEM UP. We're all there to have fun and be as safe as possible. Metal is a family. If you go down, 99.99% of the time you'll be fine, maybe a little scuffed but that's about it.
Man, this is a Japanese mosh pit. chances are its the friendliest mosh pit ever with maybe high 5's being given instead of punches. jamming out and bumping into each other while chanting the lyrics mixed with sumimasen (excuse me).
I find the energy infectious! The sheer fun coming off the stage is palpable. The band can play ! Damn those mothers rip it up, on their instruments. I must admit I a fan now!
My eldest Sister kept telling me to listen to Babymetal, her teenage boy loves them too. I waited until I visited them to listen to them (last week). We love heavy metal, she sheepishly said "Sorry, I didn't know if you'd like this... this is what they're like" and worried I'd hate it... I was sat jaw down, looked at her and said, "This is F_____G amazing...this is AMAZING" I can't stop listening to this particular song.
This is how the language barrier do not exist when the music is so phenomenal !!! I love this band , I just discovered Today 10-25-2022 . I am in love with them ❤
The massive audience should be proof enough plain and simple. This band is awesome. The music is one of the hardest sounding. The vocals are an amazing contrast that works all too well. I love it. They have multiple sons that kick ask.
I clicked on this not knowing what it was... well... I can see why people love it, and why some hate it.. I think those who hate it don't really understand how it would come to be, or why it would come to be. While it's not personally my thing, it is one of a kind, original and incredibly interesting (much moreso than most metal bands, tbh). Also clearly full of talent. I enjoy it and am happy it exists :D And it deserves a hell of a lot more respect than I am sure it gets
They started this trend a decade ago, but there have been several other bands like this since. None of them have blown up like Babymetal though. The only other that has blown up in any significant way is Poppy, as her album "I Disagree" from a couple years ago is definitely inspired by baby metal, but it's different enough to have its own flavor entirely.
I would kill to go to one of these shows. Everything from the vocalists, the Kami band, and even the crowd. Everything makes this a show you would never forget. Again, the crowd is just as much a part of the show as the band
Or Absolutely opposite, actually: There would be a Lot of wrong with you IF you would (as-s such) not like this a Lot!! ;-) :-D Cheers from a (another) 53 yers Young metalhardcorepunkwhatever lover :-)
I'm 60 years old and they're my absolute favorite rock band. They knocked Nine Inch Nails out of the number one position. Their stage performances are utterly amazing.
It’s been 37 days since I found this band in my YT Recommendations. For the last 36 days, I wake up from sleep with a BabyMetal song playing in my imagination.
@@chewzacca7147 just wait til you discover the English translations of the songs!! Then you'll discover that the girls are not doing choreography to each song.... They are doing sign language and are interpreting the lyrics thru dance. Absolutely BRILLIANT!! I'm still listening to BabyMetal everyday. Haven't stopped yet.
I really like the energy of the band. In the intro the first guitarist is like: "Hey, check this out. Sounds good, right?" All I can say is: Yes! And in the finale, the band is lik: "Let's shred one more time!"
They are touring in Australia this month In Japan in August In the US and Canada in August, September and October And Europe in November and December 2023
I've seen them live multiple times, they put on an amazingly good show. Small stage or big stage with production. All on stage put in 110% which is part of why it's so energetic.
They are touring the US and Canada in August, September and October 2023 In Japan on October 31 and November 1st and 3rd 2023 In Europe in November and December 2023
This is the video that anyone who has never seen BabyMetal should see for their first experience. Dueling guitars. Highly technical bass shredding. Speed metal drums. Just straight rocking, and then the girls march in............ "what the hell is happening?" It's definitely an experience, that's for sure.
Whoever is playing the pink guitar is my hero. Not for the guitar (though that's a huge bonus), but for how much he's INTO the music. Even when he's in the background, dude is throwing that hair!
Jesus H Christ.. this is the most metal thing I've ever heard. And I've been a metal head since the '80s. It takes the Japanese to show Americans how it's done this century.
I recently started to listen to some japanese music, from j-pop to rap but i cant believe what i was missing until i found this yesterday. First impression was like wtf is that but now i absolutly love it I dont understand a word but this goes so hard. What a crazy fusion of styles.
