Moa has commented recently about how good Su is in imitating her younger voice when she sings this song now.
You just have to go with it. Remember they were literally children when this all started. Some of the early songs were appropriate for them at that age and are just cute as hell (and heavy as hell). They remain big crowd pleasers.
Great reaction. They revived this song for the Budokan 2021 shows celebrating their 10th anniversary, they had not played it live for a long time before then. 'Doki Doki Morning' was their very first song - they recorded it at the end of October 2010 when Su was 12, Yui and Moa were both 11. Historically it is a hugely important song for BABYMETAL - it was where they started from, so of course they had to include it in the Budokan shows in 2021. Doki doki is onomatopoeic for a fast or excited heart beat - Rick Wagner has already explained the most important details about the song. This is the song that started all this madness, in this latest live version the girls are trying their best to imitate their own younger self, was not currently a song in the regular setlist after 2017 but they're celebrating their 10 Years so that's the reason why you're watching this. Hahaha... that was so good! Okay, this needs more context. Now imagine it's 12 years ago and they are 11 and 12 years old. Then subtract the Budokan stadium, the stage, the lights, the crowd, the band, the fancy outfits, all. Add some borrowed costumes and that's exactly how they started. This performance of "DDM" at the Budokan in 2021 was just to remember their first song (among other early hits) after not performing it live since 2017 (Legend S). Most of the music is, if we're being honest, nothing super special, but the songs as a whole are so positive, which is a massive contrast to the typical metal I listen to. It's thanks to this song going viral in Japanese social media that Babymetal became a proper group :D They have always been good to do catchy tunes and choruses, just wait until you hear "Gimme Chocolate" xD But don't do the official MV since it will get blocked! Check for the live version at the Legend 1997 show that was shot in 2013! That will be stuck in your head for weeks xD
It's been said by Moa that Su uses her cutesy voice to mimic her younger self when this song first came out. It is cute but I would love to hear her sing this with her more mature voice now just to see how it would compare. Still a crowd pleaser and you can see the girls just have fun doing it after all these years. 🤘🦊🤘

What always amazes me about this song is the fact that not only is it very heavy, but Su-metal was 13 or 14 years old when it was released in 2011 (12 or 13 when it was recorded). I can't think of any other girls that age putting out heavy AF metal songs!🤘🦊🤘

Babymetal always brings surprises. In context, the girls come from an Idol background, and the songs is a break from that, demonstrated in the first 30 seconds. I must admit, when I was a fresh BABYMETAL fan just having come from „standard“ Metal, I turned the volume down a little whenever this song came up. It felt a little too childish. But that went away quickly. It’s just too good to not enjoy to its fullest. It makes me headbang, it makes me dance, it makes me sing, and most importantly, it makes me smile. So why hide it? I‘m a having a great time with it, and with my 50th birthday coming up, I‘m past the point where I‘m trying to keep an image up for other people. Anyone who feels too „adult“ for this is missing out greatly.

I have a rather ambivalent relationship with this song. While I quite like it now (especially the neat, descending instrumental line after the synthesised vocal breakdown) the official MV for this song was the first thing I saw/heard from BABYMETAL a few years ago and it put me off the band completely until early 2022 when I saw the more serious video for 'Karate'. Basically, the childish video with its skeleton-suited, miming band actors, just convinced me that BABYMETAL was drivel. So, while I am now a fan, and I like the song within the context of now having a bigger picture of the band and its evolution, I still kind of resent it as the MV scared me off the band for so many years... 😆

👍 👍 This was the very first song released by them. Suzuka was around 12 years old and Moa and Yui were 11 (hence the getting ready for school lyrics). I normally do not like to recommend their early MV’ “s (or MV’s period except for Karate and Megitsune - great MV’s both but I prefer the LIVE of both) but with that said you really should watch the Doki Doki Morning MV to see why the song is what it is😉.
