I'm 47, my wife and I saw them twice in Texas last year! Their stege presence and crowd interaction is on another level .. in Dallas we were very close to the stage and we got direct smiles and waves, etc. They are so fun, cute, powerful, and inspiring! Also, yeah, when Su was young she already had great range and power, but now her voice has matured, and she's had plenty of practice and her singing went from great to phenomenal. And yes, a lot of their songs are built to include the crowd on purpose ... catchy melodies, crowd chants, choreo to copy .. a lot of their messaging is about working together as a community and they do a great job of making the audience feel like part of the show .. its so awesome!

I'm glad to see you're back with this suggestion, they were quite young and super cute in this one but wait to see Doki Doki Morning or Iine!! You can also enjoy this song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 with the new formation, and you will notice some differences. Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at the World Tour 2023, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shanenigans when performing live between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal )and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀 The live version at BABYMETAL BEGINS - PIA Arena MM in Yokohama, April 2023 was with the Western Kami Band unlike live versions from 2021 and before. I like how you are constantly smiling! They still do that to me every time I'm listening to (and especially watching) them, even in my 7th year of being a fan. But it looks much better on you. :-) Su said a in a recent interview that new songs are not really finished until they have taken them to the stage to perform them with the fans. Only then do they feel complete. I find that a very fine and charming notion, and I think when you watch their shows, it's clear what she means. I'm still in awe with the Japanese crowds in particular, they take the whole experience to a new level.

More please, loved this one ❤ . I don't even know why I seem to not get tired of seing ppl genuinely feel as I felt when I first listened to Babymetal. This was actually the song that made me dig deep into them (The Foxhole🦊) and I'm never not amazed by their talent and the quality of their shows. Just wow. I was also surprised to find how versatile they are. For a similar change, I would suggest you listen to YAVA! Live, it also includes instrumental solos by the Kami Band. So suddenly it is now a dream of mine to see them live in Japan. Just another level.

'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. @crimson0119 already mentioned the Red Fox Festival performance in 2017 with an all female audience ... I think that is my favourite performance of 'Megitsune' if only because of the audience. 'Megitsune' was the first single they released after splitting from the parent group Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band in their own right - that was in 2013 - the video was was released when Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal were 13, about to turn 14. 'Megitsune' is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video and the mask Su had in the live performance) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the live intro and in the breakdown in the middle of the song is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone in the video (she always does a high kick in the live performances) she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the official video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe. Yes please keep the BABYMETAL reactions coming - everything that has been recommended and then everything else you can find that we may have forgotten to mention. Every song is so good.

Great double reaction! This song is absolutely amazing, and Su absolutely crushes this now and in her youth. This is a fan favorite, and the song they've played the most live (~340 times to date!). Also, props to the Balut guy, he's going as hard as Babymetal 🤣 Other suggestions I think are a must see: *Road of Resistance:* Their staple show closer for almost a decade, and an insanely epic anthem. You should check out the Official Live version (Jan 2015, I believe their 2nd time performing this, and live debut in Japan) as well as the newer Pia Arena rendition from 2023. *Akatsuki (Budokan 2014):* Su-metal solo, and an amazing performance from when she was 16. *Doki Doki Morning): Official MV for their first song ever, and the newer version from Pia Arena (with a special twist!). *BABYMETAL DEATH (Legend 1997):* Heavy, and grim dark. Most insane show closer for Su's 16th birthday concert in Dec 2013. *Metalizm (Pia Arena MM):* Egyption EDM metal...what?! Love it lol. *Pa Pa Ya!! (Official):* Solid music live video, despite being studio audio, but easy access. You can find "live" version with live audio too, but may need logos for copyrights. A ver commercial sounding but fun and energetic festival song, ft. Thai rapper F.Hero. *Metali (Official, Live):* Their newest single ft. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. Combines the traditional and energetic vibes of Megitsune and Pa Pa Ya for a fun metal festival song! *Leave it All Behind (Official MV):* F.Hero, Bodyslam (Thai rock band), and Babymetal's amazing 3-way collab, just released a few weeks ago! 🤘🦊

Babymetal supposed to perform here in PH for the first time wayback 2020. But due to pabdemic it was cancelled😢... And you are right about live version has a different feel compared to MV/studio version, The vocal and instruments are more "punchy " during live plus you can really feel their energy....Just to add, The extended intros during live really adds a new flavor to their songs.....Favorite song ko nila is "Brand new day" ..

No. There were 2 Kami bands. Eastern (Japanese) & Western. The Western band consists of all American musicians. The Eastern band was their original band, but when BM started touring in the US, Europe etc, the Western Kami band supported them. For the last few years, the Western (American) Kami band has been their exclusive band, playing all of their shows including Japan. The live video you watched was the Western Kami band.

I also prefer the live version musically wise because of Su's amazing live vocals and the Kami Band playing live. "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one (337 times and counting!) It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best). 🤘🦊

I like it when reactors watch the official video, (if one is available) and then watch a live version (where available). You did a great job on this. On another thing in your reaction, (please pardon my ignorance) but is a Balut like a cooked, fertilized chicken or duck egg that when you crack it open it has a forming chicken or duck inside the shell? I have had these before in Thailand where they were loosely referred to as 5 Day and & 7 Day eggs. I have tried those a few times; however, I have trouble, psychologically, crunching the little beaks and bones, and the downy feathers tickle and scratch my throat on the way down. Megitsune is always a crowd favourite....If you take a look at the lyrics, it is often thought of as a women empowerment song....If you got the time, you should checkout Megitsune from the Red Fox Festival.... Babymetal had a series of concerts with different audience requirements.... All guys, all girls, young kids, older folks, ppl have to be in face paint like the band....And the atmosphere in the all women concert when this song dropped was explosive.... Every daughter, sister, mother, auntie, grandma all had their kitsune's up and was rocking hard. 😁😁😁😁🤘🦊🤘

The musicians currently supporting them are all American. Those were the band members for the BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE - BLACK NIGHT show at PIA Arena you just saw. Drums: Anthony Barone, Guitar: Chris Kelly, Bass: Clint Tustin and Guitar: CJ Masciantonio. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in the music video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.

Although this is strictly a personal opinion, I think that any video of any song of the "Yui Era" (BABYMETAL's first two albums) should be initially viewed with Yuimetal performing it. Admittedly, reacting to the MV of "Megitsune" was a good move but insofar as the live version is concerned, I would have suggested you react to the "Budokan Black Night (2014)" version before taking in any other version without Yuimetal. I have suggested often that reacters should go back and see where BABYMETAL has been to better appreciate where they are. Anyway . . . . You’ve opened a can of worms! BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer. BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! Well it is quite normal, for Babymetal. Not quite. Yui decided to leave the Band in 2018 she had to stop her dancing due to health issues in 2017. In the April of 2023 shevwas finally replaced by Momoko, who became the 3rd Metal Momo-metal. According to Su this is still her most difficult sing.Every concert starts in fact with this song. She sings it quietly to Check the performance of her voice at this evening. And yes for her voice itbis easier to get through the Instruments her voice is slightly deeper but due to the fact that she no longer has to project her voice so mich she is much louder. And it is really a difference that she sings it live whenever possible.

My wife and friends and I were lucky enough to see BM twice in early March, both days at Yokohama Arena. It was an _incredible_ experience but it was exhausting.

The lyrics, "Laugh with your face and cry with your heart," were uncomfortable for a 15-year-old girl at the time, but surprisingly compelling when sung by the grown-up BABYMETAL!😁

FYI in this video Su is 15 and the other two were 13 years old. also the very rare time we see Su with her hair straight down and looking very beautiful. but live is always on another level. they are a performance band more than metal or rock or whatever genre they decide to do.

Live is always better, and recent performances are best. Su's singing ability has really progressed over the years, and Momo and Moa are the best. My suggestion would be Road of Resistance PIA Arena 2023. There was also new updated guide released titled The not so Extensive Guide to BABYMETAL, if you are interested in learning more about the group.
