Megitsune means "female fox" The masks are fox masks..... also known as Kitsune masks. The "musicians" are actors (men), just pretending to play fake traditional Japanese instruments. It's not meant to be realistic: it's just for artistic effect. The "house" is actually a real Japanese religious shrine. The video was made in 2013, when the girls were aged 15 and 14, and before they had started using their real backing band. This song remains one of the most popular in their live shows. You didn't talk all that much about the music, more about the video. I think that will get you some down votes from some people. Most MVs have people fake playing instruments and lipsyncing, if it was live it would be called a live video after all. ;-) The song has many traditional elements, so that is why they used a lot of traditional(looking) elements in the video. The woman dancing is not part of the band, an other traditional element based on that part of the song. There is even a part of the song that has the 'Sakura Sakura' a very old Japanese song. They recorded this at 2 shrines and a 'traditional house'. The shrine you see the most is in Tokyo or nearby. The other, where you had been, only the film crew went to take some shots. The mask and everything is about the Fox (like their record company). It actually is a spirit like you mentioned, because it's the Fox God. The Fox God is sort of a real religion in Japan, but I don't think Babymetal really believes in it. It's just their way of telling their story.
