I was another person who really expected not to like BABYMETAL. But, they grabbed me and haven’t let go since. It’s just so unique and different, it shouldn’t work but it just does. I think it works because if the specific people involved in the whole act. If this was run and performed by different people it probably doesn’t work.
@@SixxDaze I think part of it is that the lead vocalist, Su-Metal, her voice pierces through that heavy metal sound so well. Many young girls would get drowned out in all that noise but she cuts right through. Crazy to think that she was doing this at like 12 years old lol

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. There is no other band like them (some have tried, none have come close). I won't give you my usual wall of text and potted history (everybody sighs with relief) I will just say the Kami Band who support BABYMETAL in all their live shows are the very best session musicians Japan has to offer - and they needed the best because the girls deserve the best. You will not find a harder working or more talented band. They were formed and developed entirely around the vocal talents and stage presence of the lead singer Su-metal starting when she was just 12 - she is 23 now and just gets better and better. They have about 50 songs and every one of them is different - you may not like them all, that is fine just try another and the chances are you will love the next. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres - some songs lean towards their pop roots others are good hard metal and they do everything in between. I don't do instagram so I will leave the suggestions and requests to those who do - whatever they ask for you won't go wrong with, there are no bad BABYMETAL songs, no fillers and every song is crafted then performed with the best quality and the highest energy ... every time they go on stage.

If not a real monster, than someone pretending to be one in order to terrify children. Good times! If much of their charm is in the blending of the cute and the brutal, this song is a great example. They're both turned up to the max. The recurring "Maada da yo." part that Yui and Moa (the two youngest) sing means "Not ready yet." They performed this song quite a bit in 2017, but not since. The last time I saw this one was in Chula Vista, California when they were on tour opening for Korn and Stone Sour. If you think they are commanding an audience in this video, wait until you've seen 'Road of Resistance' - Live in Japan. Although you might have to superimpose a semi-transparent logo or something over the video for that one.

They not only control the crowd. They involve us and make us an important part of the whole experience. This song is a great example for that. It is about playing tag or hide and seek at first. The girls show the audience when to clap to the music to seek the attention of the tagger. (Choreography is a fully integrated part of the show, not just a childish dance.) Then it comes out that the tagger is a kind of demon they have to escape from. The next round starts - and who is clapping to seek attention of the demon tagger when the music repeats the previous clapping part? NOT the girls on stage ;) They are dealt as the best live act on the planet (as proven by several international awards) for a reason.

My first live Metal gig was Sabbath in 1976 and my last was Babymetal in 2020 and Kawaii Metal (Cute Metal) is the most original, refreshing, fun, hard and brilliantly musical Metal genre I've seen in that 46 years. Since you already have seven suggestions via Instagram I won't recommend anything else - I can guess what most of them will be! The 'silly poppy dancing' is in fact incredibly hard, rehearsed to exhaustion point and every gesture, shape and body movement mirrors the song lyrics, in perfect synch. Su Metal, the lead singer, is a soprano with a range of C4 to G#5 (even, on one occasion a G#6 in her duet of 'Painkiller' with Judas Priest's Rob Halford, which is on YT) and apparently trains to do that choreo and still sing over that band without misplacing a note by running on a treadmill and then jumping off to sing a verse. 🦊🤘🤘🦊

There's an Instagram video of Miley Cyrus singing while working out on a treadmill, and there was a story making the rounds in 2017 of Lady Gaga singing while working out in preparation for her Super Bowl performance, so someone just free associated along the way. But Babymetal has never mentioned treadmills, and it doesn't make sense when she has the actual choreo she needs to synch her breath control to, she's not just running around a stage randomly.

Now that this will inevitably become a Babymetal reaction channel (which is a good thing), you should know that the band's production company, Amuse, do not like reaction videos very much. They are very quick at blocking anything containing copyrighted material. The video you just watched was a fan compilation made to get around this issue, but most such compilations are not that great. You will get recommended many specific performances in the comments, but beware that you might have to add a watermark on the video, or take some other kind of precaution. As others have said about Babymetal, the playing is on point, the songs are deliriously catchy and fun, and shamelessly incorporate a variety of influences to create something that most metal fans (speaking as a long time metalhead since the early 80s, here) dread; something new, fresh, and unique. What you said at the 5-minute mark was my exact reaction to Babymetal the first time I heard them back in 2012 or so, which is "Whoever came up with this idea is a f*****g genius, because this is BRILLIANT!" This particular song is basically a Slipknot song with better singing. Suzuka has come a long way as a singer since this song, too, if you listen to their newest material. I have all three of their albums and they're all worth picking up.

Great first reaction. Got to say that's an odd choice as a first reaction song to Babymetal. Don't think I've ever heard anyone start with 'Catch Me If You Can'. First time I've seen your channel and I'm surprised you have no reactions to the Japanese music scene yet. You're in for a treat if you decide to go that direction! Babymetal, Band-Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila, Trident, ONE OK ROCK, BiSH, the list is endless! All different styles and genres, but all amazing bands! Japan is killing it musically at the moment and you need to jump on the ride!

I say this on every reactor's first BM reaction that is CMIYC - there is no better song to start your journey with their music than this one. The music is heavy AF while the singing and playful choreo is adorable. Always catches folks off guard.
I see a lot of Babymetal fans rag on fan made compilation videos but this particular one has really been enjoyed by a lot of reactors lately. I like it for showing the band solos, different awesome stage sets, different costumes of the girls, and great crowd shots. Sure, there are bad compilations out there but this is a good one and serves it's purpose well of avoiding getting blocked by Amuse.
The only thing that really gets me about fan compilation videos is when they show close up shots during a solo that don't match the solo, sometimes not even a close up on the same guitarist. It's jarring to watch a close up of a guitarist doing one thing when something completely different is happening in the audio.
@@rantingrodent416 Yeah that's my only real complaint about this compilation. Especially during Mikio's solo. I wish they had stuck with the original visuals during the solos. But maybe just that little thing would have gotten it blocked. Who knows.

I just discovered you...like your little show. We are roughly from the same era and probably listened to the same music when we were young. A few years ago I was wondering why the Rock scene was so dead in the West...then I discovered the Japanese Rock/Metal scene and found out it was alive and well in Japan.
They, basically, are a textbook example for "opposites attract"! Regarding this "stupid poppy dance" or rather choreography (because it's far more sophisticated than a mere dance): It often tells the story of their songs.

@sleepingfordays My farm list is my play list that I listen to while working out on the farm. I only put songs that I REALLY like on it to keep me awake. I fall asleep a lot on the tractor when I get too bored or comfortable. So my play list must be awesome.

Babymetal polarizes people, you either love them, or you don't. BM have a large catalogue and each song is very different. While Babymetal's lyrics and dance seem light and fluffy, their songs (like the seemingly frivolous "Gimme Chocolate") are often rooted in messages of self-empowerment, critique of patriarchal and gender biased societal norms and themes of Japanese culture and tradition. Welcome to the foxhole that is Babymetal. You'll get plenty of "kitsune" comments, but you'll have to read my comment for the recommendation, sorry no Instagram for me. They are called Babymetal in part because it's a pun: Babymetal and Heavymetal are written almost exactly the same in Japanese. This is a compilation video and so you don't quite get the full force and continuity of a single live performance. They have been performing since 2010 starting in their early teens and they are now in their early 20s. I recommend you next check out "Headbanger - Legend 1997" and then go onto "Road of Resistance Live in Japan" and if you want your mind totally blown go onto "Tales of the Destinies"...and there's "Trilogy of Death" and "Trilogy of Light"...so much good stuff. "Catch me if you can" must be the heaviest song ever about tag. In Japan children have a playground game where the taggers are called "Oni" or ogres and Su, Moa and Yui mime running from the ogres in their dance. There are also spring festivals where guys dressed as "oni" visit houses and have to be given food to make then go away. They threaten the children that the will come back if they aren't good,. A stunned and impressive production, there is nothing like it in the West, belive me. The form that these little girls controls 55.000 people with a simple gesture is stunning. You must see. Good reaction. You've bought the ticket, now take the ride! They are the exact opposite of a one trick pony. They literally have a couple of dozen songs that good. Nobody has suggested any Black Babymetal (just Yui and Moa) songs: Song 4, Onedari Daisakusen, GJ! and Sis. Anger. You're a musician so Tales of the Destinies will blow your mind. THE ONE will be with you.

Were you aware that BABYMETAL opened for them in January 2017 during GNR's tour in Japan ? If you google them you'll find a few nice pictures of them together ;).
