Asa might have the least lines but she was the most memorable. She is a rap monster 🔥 Batter Up is a metaphor, its them stepping up to the plate bc their next up in line and you also see Ruka holding a baseball bat when she was rapping. I like this debut. I think they hit it out the park Homerun

where did i blame the girls lol ? I love the girls. I watched every video of them tens of times. YG ruined it. This is the worst mix ever. Ruka,Rora and Chiquita DO NOT sound like this. Even an amateur producer can not fk this up so bad. There is no concept, why Rami has horns ? Like wtf. The chorus is almost the same as many other songs. The lyrics are awful. They are basic AF yet make NO SENSE AT ALL. 7 people gathered to write lyrics and came up with this shit. It is ridiculous. A child would write better lyrics. YG ruins the talent of another group. I feel awful for the girls. This is just sad. XG and BABYMONSTER got me into the K-pop scene and I LOVE them soooo much. I have nothing against the girls.They are amazing, and incredibly talented. I think you missed the lyrics the most and didn't catch the baseball references. They basically said " we've taken over the baton, breaking out, if you have something to say step up to the plate (Batter Up!) What a great debut! Song grew on me after a few listen and the pre-chorus is just that good. Wish it was longer and that the song followed its path. I love song, but I do admit that I expected more before the teaser but once they released it I kinda knew their debut wouldn’t feel different or special. I guess they are saving the actual single that will be followed up by an EP/album for the return of AHYEON ?

Its a nice intro song for us YG stans who look forward to the YG tropes hence why we are YG stans, later discography will show their unique styles. Their names are not hard to memorize lol Ruka, Asa, Rora, Rami (Haram's stage name), Chiquita, and Pharita (Pa-Rita, not Farita, 'h' is silent). They have 2 Thai members (Pharita and Chiquita) and 2 Japanese (Ruka and Asa) with 2 other Korean members (Rora and Rami).

I like your reaction. You're right, clearly this MV hasn't really exploded compared to the members' talents. But you should know that initially BABYMONSTER had 7 members and they prepared everything with 7 people. But one member was suddenly absent due to health reasons, so the group had to debut with 6 people. We can understand YG about this objective incident and how they handled it. Regardless, BAEMON is still a new group and we can look forward to even more great comeback songs in the near future.

I liked the song but yeah it could’ve been done better and more unique production plus the references like the bus from BLACKPINK debut, chorus sounds like money by Lisa, the end chorus sounds like the end choruses of a BLACKPINK song mixed in with 2NE1 vibes plus the whole room location reminded me of TREASURE a lot I was expecting more too and as a ex YG stan I have to say YG really lost themselves in their own bubble and aren’t unique anymore it’s so sad cuz the girls are so beyond talented 😭

They are saying the baton is now passed, and referenced being done with 'Square Up' (Blackpinks album) and 'When You're Gone' a Rose reference from BP, plus the lights at the end referencing 2NE1's I Am The Best MV! Let the girls grow through time. Babymonster will surely be growing up as the time fly. This "Batter Up" debut sonng is good enough. It's fun. It's cool via YG standard. It reveals the little monsters out to the world. And the concept of baseball batting is quite smart considering their aim is high and they're all ready to make it happen. They will somehow find their style later on, and maybe through small units activities. And also, I'm expect Ahyeon rejoin the group soon, and make Babymonster more complete.

Regarding the baseball/batter up theme, I interpret it as encompassing their training and debut as a metaphor. Trainees are sitting on the bench, waiting for their chance to shine and their debut is like when it's a batter's turn at bat Granted they didn't really put much effort into fleshing out this theme, but considering the context of kpop training and debut, I can see where they are going with it.

YG literally said they are a group with the genes of YG. Of course they are going to sound like a YG group. That's the point. They do however differentiate themselves quite a bit, having 6, hopefully soon 7, members, their vocal harmonies are much more robust than anything YG has had before. That's the only thing I wish they showcased more in this song, especially at the end they could have went wild with a 6 part harmony. I mean they did a little bit, but it was very subtle. They need to play into that strength going forward though and really show it off. But make no mistake, this debut was straight gas.

I have extremely mixed feelings on this. I’m gonna have to give it a few days. I totally agree that there were too many YG tropes and it didn’t feel unique to BaeMon at all. But YG doesn’t have a reason to change their formula at this point because people eat it up and it keeps working. But it gets frustrating after a while, none of their groups have their own identity in terms of sound and concept.

I agree with you on wanting their debut to be something more challenging and not just live in the typical YG world. They are so talented(vocals, raps, dance) that I was hoping YG would've flexed more into their uniqueness. It's a decent song, but YG played it safe.
