History repeats... The criticism and hate that Babymonster got for their debut also happened when Blackpink debuted. Babymonster was criticized for being an unoriginal copy of Blackpink with their debut song "Batter Up" being called a rejected Blackpink song. Blackpink was criticized for being an unoriginal copy of 2NE1 with their debut song "Boombayah" being called a rejected 2NE1 song. YG has a signature sound and style. Which is why YG created groups debut with a traditional YG formula song. This is done on purpose to announce that the group is part of the YG Family and to give respect & appreciation for their seniors. The debut music video will also have references to their seniors. The second song from the group is typical what sets them apart from the other YG groups and often the real indicator of what their concept will be. "Batter Up" = traditional YG anthem formula song. "Stuck in the Middle" = classic YG ballad formula song. YG created girl groups: 2009 = 2NE1 2016 = Blackpink 2023 = Babymonster

dont forget 2002 SWI.T 2003 Big Mama and HI Suhyun but this was just two soloist (Suhyun was on a break from AKMU at the time) who joined for a bit, not a group group

Their hype is actually insane but it has so much to do with their levels of talent. They are absolute monsters despite their ages (currently 15-21), but check out their newest song Stuck in the Middle (their special stage for it was also absolutely gorgeous). Some of their predebut content went viral due to their jaw-dropping performances and they are just amazing

You were wondering what the backlash against them was. So the main criticism from people was that this first release from Babymonster was considered too much like copy/paste what YG girl groups sound like. Their 2nd song Stuck in the MIddle is completely unlike this and is a vocals song. People also assumed that YG scrambled to get the second song out after seeing the criticism of the first song, but actually the second song being different was always part of the plan. The second song was recorded for their album before the first MV came out. We know this because of the date on an ipad one of the girls is holding in the behind the scenes video of 2nd song's MV. This group is very young but has the ability for great vocals. Youngest in the group is like the age of our discord maknae Melissa.

Music videos released by Babymonster: 05-12-2023 = "Dream", their pre-debut song. 11-26-2023 = "Batter Up", their debut song. This also has a performance video, dance practice video, and two special stage videos; school version and stadium version. 12-19-2023 = "Christmas Without You", their Christmas cover song. 02-01-2023 = "Stuck in the Middle", their mini album pre-release song. This has a special stage video and a live video. 04-01-2024 = "BABYMONS7ER" mini album release date. Their previously released songs, "Batter Up" and "Stuck in the Middle", are being re-recorded to include Ahyeon, who has returned from being on hiatus due to health concerns. Fall 2024 = full album release time frame.

Thank you for your reaction. I will say we have to remember all but one of these young ladies were under 19 at the time of this release. In fact, Chiquita, (wearing a red top at the 4:48 mark of the video) was only 14 at the time. She is the youngest and just turned 15 last month. Currently, their ages are 15, 15, 16, 17, 18 & 21. Ahyeon, the girl you mentioned at the beginning, who has returned to the group, is also 16. Look for their mini album release on April 1st at midnight Korean time.

you seemed unsure, and you are correct, there are more than 3, there are 5. SWI.T was the first girl group back in 2002 - 2004 (YG married one of the girls) Big Mama was the second girl group from 2003 - 2007, left YG and continued singing till 2012. came back 2021 to present 2NE1 was the third girl group from 2009 - 2016 BlackPink was the fourth girl group 2016 to present and BabyMonster is the fifth girl group 2023 to present BabyMonster has 4 songs thus far. Dream - pre-debut Batter Up - you just watched it, but like you said, there are many versions Christmas Without You - Cover of a Christmas song, it will be on my christmas play list from now on, along with Lisa - My only Wish, Britney Spears Christmas Cover, and Jennie - Snow/Snowman Christmas cover song all released days before christmas 2023. Stuck In the Middle - still just 6 girls but there are 3 version of this song out April 1, the mini album will drop with BabyMons7er OT7, and both songs re-released with 7 girls. plus new songs.

Batter Up smashed the most views in 24 hours in kpop debut history with 23 million views. Batter Up also smashed the fastest 200 million views in kpop debut history held by Blackpink debut song Boombayah which took 370 days. Batter up smashed that all time kpop debut record in 53 days.

It seems like YG likes to do names that have double meaning so that their songs they release match up with the name. Like with BLACKPINK we get darker songs and we get lighter (sweeter)!songs … with the two songs that have been released from BABYMONSTER it’s sounding like they are going to go along with that they’ll have sweeter songs and harder hitting songs… which I really am hoping for it is one reason why I like YG. He doesn’t play music he goes around different areas of music

YG girlgroups always get the hate for having the YG vibe in their fast songs. From Blackpink sounding like the queens, 2ne1...to Baby Monster sounding like Blackpink. But true YG stans are loving these kind of beats and beatdrops in their songs. And its a huge fandom. The views won't lie. and so the number of RU-vid subs and Instagram followers.

In terms of YG girl groups you pretty much got it, you just missed Big Mama who are a 2nd gen vocal group who are no longer signed to YG but they are still active and released new music last year! They have an incredible Killing Voice too! There was also a short lived duo called Hi Suhyun comprised of the former YG soloist LeeHi and Lee Suhyun from the brother-sister act AKMU. I laughed WAY too much at the extremely long pause after Simon asked who was next

If I was to put it a certain way then it would be that they are cut from the same cloth. With that being said, they might be cut from the same cloth but their design is different. I think that the difference between 2NE1 and BLACKPINK from BABYMONSTER is that they were trying to keep it more age appropriate. Most of the members are underage when the debut video came out. Only Ruka (21) and Pharita (18) is 18 or older while the rest of the group is 17 and under. Even YG said that in the case of 2NE1 and BLACKPINK that most of them were old enough that an edgier concept (Girl Crush) was okay for those groups. Their other song STUCK IN THE MIDDLE is more like what they did for their pre-debut song DREAM. STUCK IN THE MIDDLE is not really like you would hear as a typical YG song and shows the actual talent of these girls which is in their vocals. The dancing and hip hop swag in this video shows that they are capable of living up to their seniors legacy. In fact the way that the is, BATTER UP is a baseball term used to say talk about the next up to the plate. So the song in a sense pays homage to their seniors but also declairing that it is now their turn to show the world what they got.

I love Babymonster but I'm not a fan of "I'm so cool" concepts like this, I think they shine way more when they get to sing properly and all that. Sheesh is far superior to batter up in every way if you ask me. They still have those repeated single word "hard drop" choruses but thats fine.

It's entirely possible that you're right. We aren't opposed to the idea that we're the problem - in fact, we definitely know that we are the problem. We love Mamamoo, we love Moomoo, and we are going to be reacting to them still. We also are who we are and want to be authentic in the way we react to videos, so it's unlikely we will be able to immediately shift in the ways you suggest. Again though, I want to be clear, we definitely know where we are on our journey as creators. We have a lot to learn and we will change often before we feel like we've come close to mastering anything. We're really grateful for your feedback and hope we can lure you back one day!

Honestly it’s just personal preference … I enjoy the long intros and their input on things because if I didn’t want them to react or commentate then I would just go watch the music video instead of watching a reaction video.. ❤😂 also mamamoo is a popular group but majority of the people who watch along for the ride.. are from other fandoms so that can also be why there isn’t as much pull for mamamoo videos💕🫶

You must not be in the discord then bc, if you were, you would see there's quite a lot of us who love their personalities and follow their content because we can feel how genuine they are in their enjoyment of kpop. It's understandable if you are not happy that there isn't a Mamamoo reaction today, but they said it's temporary. How does being rude to the creators of the channel help your case? I also know there isn't as much support for a couple of my favorite groups within the channel's followers, but I go around encouraging people to check out the channel, trying to bring more fans of my groups over here whereas I don't know why but Moomoos haven't been very active on their videos of late for whatever reason. Look at the video view counts to see for yourself. And the reason for the lower view counts on Mamamoo videos is definitely not what you hypothesized because, if that were true, it would be happening to all videos across the board on this channel. But it's not. Support from some of the other fandoms is very strong.
