Notice that the second fugue theme at 6:54 is simply six ascending notes on the minor scale. This is actually a lookback by Bach to the pre-Baroque eras. It's a form called the hexachord, and was used in the late Medieval period, mostly in chant. What Bach does here is amazing, and might be the first time the hexachord form was used in a fugue.

És una intervenció en la ment del músic de l'immens esperit universal!
Melhor gravação que conheço desta arrepiante versão orquestrada por Elgar! Bach também foi um dos pais do romantismo, esse tipo de adaptação deixa-nos ainda mais óbvio.

Musik ist bekanntlich auch eine Frage des Geschmacks. Aber vergleicht man dieses Stück mit Bachs Musik, so kommt es schon ziemlich geschwollen daher. Mag sein dass es eben eine Kennzeichen der Romantik ist, aber Bach hatte diese Musik niemals aufgeführt. Zu bombastisch und zu dick aufgetragen. Aber ich möchte es nicht abgewertet sehen, nur einfach beschreiben.
