The Brothers are amazingly constantly learning and polishing repertoire, wearing respectful concert attire (with shiny polished shoes!), presenting their live audio-visual recordings with musical accuracy, great lighting and views from many angles, along with the very best sounds possible, and from them both undeniable enthusiasm and perfection! THANK you BOTH! I'm so hopeful that they'll be invited to the U.S. many times in the coming, post-pandemic years, wishing for them the very best opportunities and venues! Am I a supportive FAN? You bet!

An all-Bach concert is always a cause for celebration and, as expected, this recital was right out of the top drawer. I was particularly looking forward to the Toccata in F and it certainly did not disappoint. I loved everything on the programme. However, the performance of the Toccata, Adagio and Fugue was phenomenal, an absolute tour de force. Thank you, Jonathan and Tom, for a fantastic concert.

I was first introduced to Bach’s music back in the 1970 through the performances of E Power Biggs playing BWV564. In particular, the third movement, when played well, stands as one of the towering artistic achievements of any epoch. Your performance takes me back to those times and the marvel which Bach’s music has provided throughout my life. Well done.

Once again, Jonathan, you've excelled yourself. You are absolutely amazing! And by the way, you NEVER have to apologize for anything! With all the fancy footwork, you can hold on to the bench as much as you like, and cross your legs as often as is required! Thank you once again for an awe-inspiring concert. As my brother lives in the Hull region, if ever we're allowed to fly internationally and I visit him from my home in Victoria, British Columbia, I'll be seeking out where you'll be performing and he and I will be there, for sure! He, like me, is also an organist, but neither of us are in your league! And finally (for today, anyway) I really appreciate the fact that your shoes are shiny! :) So many organists wear shoes that look as though they've come from a 'Rag and Bone' man! Keep up the great work, and congratulations as always to brother Tom for his outstanding film work. Cheers, Michael Denton, Canada
@Video7Rose
@Video7Rose 3 года назад
Jonathan wears a pair of shoes made specifically for playing the organ. He explained in one of his videos that it is preferable to wear shoes with a softer sole as it helps to feel the pedals better. Either he or someone else said you would never wear the organ shoes in the street, as they would pick up grit and dirt that would be transferred to the pedals. For that reason, one shouldn't wear street shoes to play the organ, either. I've seen some organists wear only socks, and a few wore sneakers or street shoes. Jonathan is always proper, takes good care of his shoes, and dresses for every concert as though there is a live audience right there with him. Some of us have fun taking note of his & Tom's cufflink collections, too! 😉

Jonathan, thank you so much for demonstrating the ability to control the speech of a pipe (Aeolus speaks?) on a tracker organ (08:00). I never touched a tracker keyboard, but I understand that as the registration grows, the resistance in the keyboard become greater and greater. I was told that, in the past, the organists of Nôtre Dame de Paris developed massive hands.

Sadly, I tried and so did my organist and guest organists. Just a few faithful organ lovers from our congregation have attended. OK our instrument isn’t the Bridgwater, but it is a historical instrument of some interest and we put on good programmes with excellent introductions to both the music and the organ. Generally, my experience of organ recitals elsewhere is much the same and of services in local churches offering very good organ music. However, if we laid on an orchestra of a 100, a couple of cannon, strobe lights and fireworks, and the same old overdone, overblown chart toppers it would be a different story! I hope your experience over the other side of the pond is more hopeful. As for this concert, as ever, excellent!

GOTTA say more! The camera work is MOST EXCELLENT! Perfect creative camera placement. I am no expert on photography but I truly enjoy watching the Scott Brothers almost as much as listening. A comment regarding the audio recording. It is great that you seem to perfectly capture the lower frequencies just as powerful as they might present themselves in person. Often pipe organ videos seem to fall short in the amount of bass that is really there. I appreciate that. I listen to Jonathan using two Cerwin Vega 18" "Earthquaker" subwoofers. It is quite an experience. Wish I could trade for a live performance one day.

Across time, I can listen to Bach and tears come to my eyes just like when I first heard it, it’s so profound. A human being wrote that. Wow. There’s no comparison to that in any other form.

All brilliantly played and most fluent pedal work. The Toccata in F major is my favourite but should always include the fugue. I like the cello transcription on the pedals (reaching top G) but would prefer most of the programme to be Bach's original organ pieces, since he wrote 10 hours of them. Looking forward to further concerts from this hall.

To me the most amazing part is that you can use the pedals with your shoes on. Something that I was never able to do (years since I last played unfortunately) though possibly with enough practice, who knows. Brilliant as always. Thank you.

On what basis do the six 'thumb-downs' dislike this performance? Are they allergic to pipe organ? Does J.S.Bach irritate them? Are they adherents of Received Pronunciation and dislike JS's Manchester pronunciation of 'hall'? Perhaps they are from a troll factory? I am pleased to press 'like'. Jonathan Scott is clearly a man of great talent, passion and humour. We should be thankful for such musicians of his ilk. Well done Jonathan.

Your comment completely on point. 👏 I'd like to add another possibilty to your list: stendhal syndrome... was aiming for thumbs up but coordination a little off (on account of being mid-feint).

My theory is, that there is a cadre of folks out there who believe nothing is perfect, and therefore they click thumbs-down on all videos, so that no video can escape without "dislikes".

What a good idea to play this Bach programme NOT from the remote console BUT on the mechanical console instead! I liked all of it very much, however the transcription of the Prélude from the Suite No. 1 in G Major for cello solo (if a transcription at all as it is appears faithful to the original) impressed me in particular, mostly because I am sure that JSB himself would have greatly relished Jonathan´s version AND virtuoso performance (Bach was the first composer to have written such extensive solos just for the pedal board as a substantial part of several of his organ compositions): he must have smiled from above upon hearing this ;-)

Great organist. I was a chorister at St Mary's Bryanston Square in London, our choir master was Hugh Marchant, son of Sir Stanley Marchant. Young though I was, the sound of that church organ left an impression that has remained with me all my life. It's brilliant that Manchester has this magnificent Hall and organ and the greatest organist to bring it all to life. Every time I hear this man brings back some of the best memories of my childhood. Thank you the Scott duo.

Very gratifying selection of numbers. I love the brisk tempo you chose for 1048 _Allegro Maestoso._ Would like to hear a bit more more dynamic expression.

If I may comment I that I don’t think the acoustics of the hall weren’t too helpful in the Toccata which is was performed astoundingly. I think I would take it slightly slower.

Magnific !! Here, music holds the middle between material nature and intellectual nature: it can strip love of its earthly crust, or give a body to the angel according to the disposition of the listener, his chords are thoughts or caresses 🔥
