There is a beautiful conversation going on between the different parts in this piece. Nobody crafted that conversation better than Bach. Also, watch the musicians. They watch each other and play off of each other. They are deep into Bach's coversation.

Bach, Hawking, Einstein, Newton, Beethoven, Osler, etc.., Some say we progress incrementally and as a collaborative effort. That is true to a point, but it takes a Visionary to advance our understanding of any esoteric field quickly. One man or woman can revolutionize thought, and bring us all with them. Thanks to the innovators, we need you now more than ever
This concerto always sounds so deep, after listening to the others. After all, it has mid and low range represented, but no high end (no violins). And here are a couple of violas da gamba!Consequently, it has more gravity, even if played a bit fast. I am in love with the 1st violist--so tall, blond, and beautiful!
You just don't know what to say at first. Then, you start to analyze: 1. The idiosyncrasies of both viola do Gambi, the beauty of the cello line, and the absence of an upper register (sorry violinists), and one conclusion reaches you. Bach was a genius lthat comes along once in 1000 years. Two, I am lucky enough to live in an age where I can have access to this Genius
Actually, it *is* in 2/2 time. And Baroque tempi, because of the differences in the bows, tended, in general, to be somewhat faster than we've maybe gotten used to from decades of plodding performances by overlarge ensembles and choirs.
