Bach is one of the greatest geniuses that humanity has ever produced... His work is truly divine and transcends the sensitivity of most of us, poor mortals, leading us to experience a little, just a little, of the immense glory of this undeniable genius.
These pieces for Organ are absolutely brilliant; my life could have revolved only around these works, and my life would be perfect. Thanks for the recording, it's just pleasing to hear every note, and clearly hear how Bach wanted it to sound
What an amazing performance of an incredibly beautiful and complex music! Thank you so much for posting this! Wish I could be sitting in the church during such a recital.
Yes I find it makes more sense to conclude with the absolutely crazy variation with four different canons in inversion on the chorale melody (an amazing feat in itself) and the incredible coda which entangles all the phrases of the chorale melody, because that coda is the contrapuncal climax of the set. And a coda is supposed to be the end part, isn't it? At any rate, Bach wrote it that way in the original version. But this is the later version 769a, which has it in the middle. Who knows why?
The fast moving right-hand part is the subject of canon between that part and the lowest part. The lowest part is imitating the right-hand part note-for-note, but an octave lower and half as fast. That's why this variation is called "In Canone all' Ottava per augmentationem." ("In canon at the octave through augmentation.")
Howq sad that such wonderful music and rendition should be squashed the keyboard and the cassock and surplice (whatever they wear in The Low Countries)
