The Netherlands Bach Society has completed many high quality recordings of old JS Bach. Very often the musical arrangements, period instruments and ensembles are selected to give the listener the experience of the attendances to Bach concerts. However, nobody can really know how those pieces sounded at that time. One valuable merit of the Bach Society is that future audiences will have these records and videos to know how Bach music sounded during our time.
A very dense and dramatic Cantata by the Magister Maximus. It is a great pleasure to see a performer like Sigiswald Kuijken with his curriculum and reputation directing the Netherlands Bach Society. Thank you so much for your incredible work!
Thank you for the amazing work your society of talented musicians contributes on this platform. Your dedication to the Great composer is truly inspiring the next generation of musicians!
You mean the bass singer? I can't find a part marked "baritone" in the score. Also, the soloist you refer to as a baritone is listed in the credits as "Christian Immler, bass," which is the part he sings.
@@herrickinman9303 I believe in Bach's time men's modal voices (excluding countertenors and castrati) were divided only into tenor and bass. The baritone category separated from bass came along later.
"Mein Alles in Allem!" over G'd en zijn Zoon; zó indrukwekkend gezongen/excellent and moving/vom Herz heraus und wunderbar gesungen/ tov meod! Like you were in heaven and backwards ... :)
Was interested in this piece as it was listed in wolffs book as one of the pieces that Bach used as an audition piece for the Leipzig position. He was paid 20 talers to perform two cantatas....this was one of them. Since teleman and graupner did not take the job, the committee decided to take a “mediocre “ musician. Even when Bach performed this piece, graupner had already been offered the job. Not known if this piece was written in Weimar or cothen or both. Bach is a true miracle of music.
@@alexs7816 Graupner and even more so Telemann are masters of the highest level, deserving full respect, and it is unacceptable to write their names with a lowercase letter just to emphasize the superiority of another great master.
I’m very happy for every upload of Bach sacred cantatas by the NBS. I can’t wait for all of them, BWV 1-200. Is there a plan for when this will be completed?
There's no end date known yet for the completion of Bach's cantatas. So far we have recorded just over a quarter of his cantatas. Since this is a time-consuming and expensive project to realise, we are also dependent of financial funding and gifts (read more on: allofbach.com/en/support-us/). But our intention is to finish this project!
I don’t exactly know why but in all Bachs cantatas I always appreciate the counter tenor more than the other soloists no matter how good they perform.I think it’s because the voice has got such special mellow timbre.. it’s not possible to compare with the other voices..
Jesus took the Twelve with Him and said them: "Look! We are going to Jerusalem and all that was written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be fulfilled.". But they didn't understand any of this and didn't understand what He had said. My Jesus, take me with Thee, I'm ready, I want to leave from here to go to Jerusalem, the place of Thy Passion. Lucky if I can understand for my comfort the meaning of this moment of suffering and death! My Jesus, take me with Thee and I will run because the flesh and the blood, like Thy Disciples, understand with difficulty what Thou have said. Flesh and blood are drown to the world and large crowds. They both wanted to build a fortress on Mount Tabor, when Thou transfigured. On the contrary on Golgotha, the place of suffering, they don't want to cast even a glance. Ah, crucify in me, in my corrupted chest first of all this world and its forbidden pleasures, so I'll perfectly understand Thy words and I'll go to Jerusalem full of joy. My supreme all, my eternal good improves my heart, transforms my soul: overthrows all that resists the renunciation of the soul! When I am mortified in spirit, take me with Thee in peace! Mortify us with Thy goodness, lift us up with Thy grace; eredicate in us the old men so that the new man may live happily already here on Earth and that his feelings, his desires and his thoughts are turned to Thee
Again an outrageous performance. This is always first class! For my personal flavour, the tempo of the choral could have been a bit slower - sounds a bit like chasing through. But no shadow on the whole. Thanks indeed, all individuals of NBS!
I sometimes imagine Christmas carollers setting up a pavilion in front of my house and performing something like this. Like as a gift to a random stranger.
Very Good!!! My dear dad was born 1946 on this day. Bach was his favorite!!! Miss you dad!!! Please forgive me dad!!! Love you dad!!! May God Bless y'all Richly and Jesus Peace!!! ❤😮😂🎉
In this interview Sigiswald Kuijken and Lucia Swarts explain more about these instruments: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hrC3xaoia3I.html
Immlers majestic aura and velvet voice... Thats how I imagine Jesus or God himself. He's the perfect choice. The violoncello da spalla is a nice gimmick but makes musically no sense. A normal cello or a piccolo would sound much better here. But Sigiswald is a freak ;-)
