This is beautifully dignified, with tremendous clarity in the ornamentation and chordal support...great tempo, not as frenzied as others I've heard, which consequently muddies the ornamentation and chordal framework...

I like how he doesn't do the generic "singing" interpretation for EVRRY SONG OUT THERE. He makes it sing when he needs to. Its not that he can't. He doesn't. He stayed true to the bouncy happy style of baroque instead of trying to make it like... romantic when that's not what Bach would have wanted
@ryanandersen7978
@ryanandersen7978 6 лет назад
Bouncy to an extent. I worry sometimes that he gets over aggressive with the bouncing and it becomes choppy instead. But that's honestly just as much a "Maisky" thing as it is anything else to do with whatever he's playing. He's a very aggressive player altogether, in my mind.

to all those fighting about whose interpretation is better, stop. The beautiful thing about music is that there is not right or wrong way that is decided, It is open for interpretation by the musician. Especially the Bach cello suites, because we really dont know how Bach Intended them. We all may have different preferences, but its all amazing:) So just enjoy the music:)

It's kind of sad to see people talking trash about performer x's interpretation. Nobody's going to play what Bach wanted, because we don't know what that is. Interpretation is just that. Performer x's ideas on how the piece sounds best, based on a few standards. If there was one right way to play something, it wouldn't be interesting after the initial listening. That said, I really enjoy Maisky's rendition of the suites. He seems to pull an anxious tension out of nowhere, which I lovc.

Why are both of the top comments so aggressive? Both Maisky's and Ma's renditions have pros and cons. Maisky seems to remain more focused on the composers vision, while Ma plays personally. Neither is "better" than the other. Just appreciate the composition for what it is: a masterpiece, no matter who or how it is performed.

This is 99Mandalore, but I just want to say that its normal, the angle that he is holding the bow, shows that it curves normally, it is normal, its not really crooked, if you play with a string instrument, you can see the bow is curving downward, and it's just the angle that hes holding the bow.

I love Mischa's Interpretation because he (for the most part) is true to what the composer wrote. It's just not the same when performer's try to add their own take on what the manuscript of Bach was. They change the style of the Baroque, the articulation, and the entire mood of it, to make it sell sometimes. I prefer Mischa's honest interpretation.
