Superb playing Pascale Mélis, and good registration too to make all this happen - as much a part of playing as the actual playing I think. My old music teacher used to diss this work, saying the 4 harpsichords made the whole thing sound like birds twittering! I love the passage at 1:00 where the key changes through that great baroque technique of slowly dropping down to the dominant (or other key, often minor). It was mastered by Bach of course, to make something less clinical, less cliched and more emotional. And, with organ music easily sounding crowded or over-played within the natural reverberation of the sound space, it still sounded 'crisp', with the melody clearly delineated, not drowned out in the huge amorphous noise an organ can make in a big church.

I'd heard this concerto in its original Vivaldi concerto for four violins, and Bach's own transcription for four harpsichord, but never in solo organ. This was a treat! Accuracy, great articulation, passion, and orchestration (stop selection) amounts to virtuosity! I could hear everything. Kudos. That A minor chord at the end of the first movement is almost sacrilegious. One expects a Picardy third there! But I love it!

Pascale is a virtuoso her skill is amazing , and I can see why I have not yet heard these transcriptions by Bach until now - because they are so difficult! - thanks for posting.

Just when I thought I'd heard all Bach's miraculous works. I then discover this gem. When you look at the complexity of his works, the number of works & their perfection. Its seems almost inconceivable how he could have found time to write them down, let alone think them up. When Wagner wrote that Bach was the most stupendous miracle in all music, he was making an understatement. He is the most stupendous miracle we know of so far in the universe

Dislikers are either jealous or rap crap lovers with no music taste whatsoever. A person who lived at the time of Bach, told how he passed by a church hearing some out of this world organ piece being played. He concluded it must be either a heavenly angel playing or Bach. Pascale Mélis is a combination of both. All praise in sharing this awesone video. A true gift to the world of classical music.

Among other talents, Bach was a great transcriber. This is his transcription of a concerto for four violins by Vivaldi, originally in b minor, as is the case with Bach's other transcription of this concerto, also in a minor, for four harpsichords. This is Vivaldi's Opus 3, No.10. Bach also transcribed a number of other Vivaldi concertos for organ as well, just as magnificent as this one.
