Bach is really most wonderfull on a harpsichord ..sometimes when I play his music on the piano I think, I wish I also had a harpsichord at my deposale.. hmm loveley !

I am not a well experienced musician, but I studied Bach, and this might go too far but, for me, piano makes Bach boring... Harpsichord brings Bach to life again!

@@Sebastian-uf3vrNot Bach but Petzold as I just learned

Great, with all the baroque elements of musical ornaments and decoration. I've played this piece over and over again. It never ceases to amaze how easy it seems, how "simple" it is and yet so concentrated and dear it is to me. On a harpsichord it is how it should be played. I always used the piano but it is entirely different the way you play it then. More like a Brahms waltz.....but to catch the spirit of the piece is less easily attained. Didn't Bach write it for his wife Anna Magdalena?

I believe this is by Christian Petzold from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena. The Gavotte from French suite in G major , BWV 816 is by Bach

Indeed. Originally falsely attributed to Bach and that false knowledge stuck.

No one embellishes like Koopman
@MontoyaMatrix
@MontoyaMatrix 6 лет назад
I'm coming to think that embellishments are more important on the harpsichord than on the piano; and for two reasons. ONE: the sustain pedal on the piano can easily add different dynamics to the sound. Even slight taps. But this is not possible on the harpsichord, as there is not sustain. TWO: the piano has a bigger sort of body to the notes, and you can play it more legato by holding the note longer. What was neat about the Bach (esp. with JS Bach) was how his music mergers embellishments/ornamentations into the composition itself. To where it becomes necessary to the musical idea--no matter what you play it on.

Yeah, you're right. There are some pieces in it by Bach (including pieces from The WTC, The Goldberg Variations and The French Suite), so the logic in my previous post isn't a 100 percent. However, my point is still that Petzold is today believed to be the composer and that the Notebook from 1725 is of a different kind than the first one, which is why I'm not sure what Tigermantt was trying to prove.

Are you serious or just trolling? This piece was taken from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach that is dated 1725. None of the pieces that have been identified in that book is by J.S. Bach; the book is a kind of mixtape of popular music of that era, so what are the chances he threw in some of his own compositions in that book? Slim to none, I would say, since he used an older Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach for his own compositions.
