I love the slow tempi. Pianists tend to show of their skills with this music. This recording gives me more pleasure than Argerichs. Barok music is not for showing of. I'm studying this on my piano now and feel like doing it like Leonhardt. Thanks so much for the upload!
Have you also tried Wolfgang Rubsam’s recordings of Bach for lute-harpsichord? Another series of recordings effectively utilizing a slower tempo, not to mention the lute-harpsichord sounds very beautiful (I prefer it to a normal harpsichord)
His eyes could spit fire, and like a carrige driver he maniged wild horses. There will never be a second Leonhardt ..... Thank you so much for uploading this video .
isn’t it all great we can all take the same music and be gustav leonhardt? or js bach himself. become the worlds created of genius. to learn any instrument is to unlock a library of gods. i drunkenly state that i love music and the community between generations of musicians. thank you music. -thomas
This fabulous performance demonstrates how superior a good harpsichord is by contrast to a Steinway, in bringing out the spirit of Bach's music. The Steinway is the ideal machine for showing off, and being a percussiive instrument, lacks the incisiveness of the harpsichord which is a plucked instrument.
What a pleasure play and learn this partita during this currently year, all readed only left add more speed and agility to the caprice and the fugue in the oberture called sinfonia, its special for me play this famous piece that has been played by famous pianists as argerich, glengould, leonhardt, etc
