Although I can never imagine myself playing at this level, I tend to think of music as a hobby. An activity I can spend a whole afternoon doing instead of watching TV. I don't have to be playing the most difficult pieces. For me music is all about personal enjoyment. Nice performance. Sounded like it was done in Japan. Besides parents starting children early, wonder if he pieces are included in the Suzuki piano program in 1 of their advanced books? Don't think a child at this age would be selecting his own pieces so one assumes they were selected by his teacher based on his level of playing...
+thepianoplayer416 When I was younger I felt that way too. That I was good, but doubted my ability to perform on an exalted level. Then one day it happened, and it took a colleague to point it out. We tend to be so critical of ourselves that even as we progress we still hear ourselves as mediocre. I know everyone has heard this, but practice practice practice, and passion; can lead to some amazing places. Also, who knows, maybe he did select this. It took unitl my 20s to really understand classical music, but I always loved bach. Even when I didn't know it was bach, I knew thus that music was special. In 7th grade and in my first trimester of Jr. high school, we played Come Sweet Death, or Komme Susser Todd for wind ensemble. Even in a room full of 7th graders who, myself included; hadn't touched our instruments all summer =), and sight reading this piece, The music was so powerful that I got my first musical goosebumps and even had tears by the end. This said, knowing Japans culture, you are most likely right aobut his music being selected for him. But, I'd like to at least think that this was one he was happy with.
Some people are born gifted (with the ability to play at a young age). Nobody in my family can be considered a child prodigy in this regard. Personally took a few lessons when I was young but didn't get anywhere. Many years later decided to get back to it. A few relatives took up piano for much longer but at some point the music stopped. I'm the only 1 in the family still playing a few times a week. I don't get into the most difficult pieces and mostly for fun...
thepianoplayer416 it is about having parents that know how to study and learn the child in the correct way, some childs will then get into it...some will like other stuff more so.... it is not about beeing born with a random talent at all.
He would have to want to do it to be able to play this well. You can't get good at piano just because someone else is trying to force you, you have to actually want to do it. Otherwise the results would sound uninspired and terrible.
