A note to the Grizzley Flats loco for your review, is that it was owned and restored by one of the 9 Old Men Animators from Disney...Ward Kimball. I was fortunate to visit Ward's house in San Gabriel, California back in the 90's and viewed his outside railroad. If you go to the website for the Orange Empire Museum in Perris, Ca you can read all about it, since Ward sent this locomotive and cars there. One note, you had a problem running the loco on your narrow turns....the real locomotive didn't turn at all, as Ward had a house with a garage in his far backyard. He would run it from the garage to the front of the house via the driveway...it went straight as an arrow and then he backed it up. He also brought the passenger station from the movie 'So Dear to my Heart' to his backyard RR. So if you are a Disney Fan, this is the Loco for you!!
The Nevada Central 2/Emma Nevada 2 is currently undergoing a complete restoration at the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris California. Once restoration is complete the plan is to lay enough track to allow it to run. Plans are also underway at the museum to eventually restore Ward Kimball's other steam locomotive the Chloe.
Its nice to see the detail Bachmann has put into their G scale line. I use to have a older set called the Suwannee river special which they don't make anymore of course. I thought those set were detail but this is a whole new level. I love to see Bachmann take their HO scale old timer train sets i.e. the General train set and civil war train sets, and make them into G scale. In fact, I would love to see an entire line of G scale civil war era trains from Bachmann.
I have the Denver & Rio Grande number #15, the Raton, and what a beauty!!! Bachmann has done an amazing job with the Neo Generation Spectrum Moguls just like they did with the C-19s, Climaxes, Mallets, K-27s, and Forneys. Also the Emma Nevada is currently being restored and will be running REAL soon. They are working on the running gear by replacing the valve gear eccentrics, the wheels are getting turned and will receive brand new tires. The rods are being remachined and are getting new bearings, and the pilot truck is being completely rebuilt. Once the running gear is done, work will commence on raising funds in order to get a brand new all welded steal boiler built. Thankfully Disney officials are VERY enthusiastic about the restoration and are giving a helping hand with the funds and can't wait to see her back in action. It's unlikely to know when she will run again, but it will be worth the wait. :) Oh, the Emma Nevada also has the most beautiful sounding bell too. :)
Remember that "G scale" is 1:22.5 That Bachmann loco is F scale, 1:20.3 I model in A scale, which is 1:29 All the G gauge stuff, (except of course for Gn) runs on 45mm gauge track. It's confusing, especially to the newcomer, but it would be like calling OO scale "HO scale" because it runs on the same gauge track as HO. That would never be accepted. My solution is to label all the G gauge stuff like this: G29, G22.5, G32, G 20.3, et cetera. It's a real problem when trying to buy scale-specific product in the world of large scale trains. Advertisers frequently won't even list the scale and it takes research by the buyer just to figure it out. I hope this is helpful.
Those windows are not opaque, the are translucent. Can you use a half wave rectifier in the power pack? I've never done anything with G scale but I think I would like to start. Thank for the video.
You can find a lot of bargains on used G scale locomotives, and many will last almost forever if you take care of them. I've purchased litterally over 30 Large Scale lcoos online (Ebay) from $50 - $400 each! I have one of these beautiful Bachmann Spectrum 2-6-0's I bought about 6 years ago for just over $200. I upgraded to DCC, it is a wonderful loco. I also have many older LGB locos that I've got incredible deals on, including two 2-6-0, one with sound, and several smaller 0-4-0 LGB locos and many more. I have some Aristocraft diesels too, they all run very nice. Two of my favorites are my Aristocraft 4-6-0 Pacific, custom painted, with a very long Vanderbilt tender. It is VERY heavy and very cool. I Also have a diesel, DASH 9 that is huge...weights 22 lbs. I bought all of these used and as I said just bought them over 10 years, and I look for deals on rolling stock too. I have lots of old track, but it never wears out. I setup lots of temp layouts up to 16 x 8 feet. Large scale really is the way to go...don't let others tell you otherwise. I have some of every scale, but love the Large scale trains the most!
