If ever there was an advert for NOT having DCC sound, this is it. Those coaches sound great on the track joints. I have got a similar aged Peak on the way to me in the post right now. I am looking forward to getting on my layout. Your layout is superb, by the way. I particularly like the abandoned hopper in the overgrown siding - nice detail. Cheers

This was an ex Mainline loco that Bachmann inherited, It's already had a couple of tooling changes since entering the Bachmann range. First release was as Mainline released it but with a better motor and drive, then they retooled the nose ends to put in the seem and a heavier chassis, then again they changed the nose ends to accommodate directional lighting and the speaker well you were pointing out. I have all versions including the Mainline version and your right, the body and bogies could do with a retooling.. But all in all it's a cracking looking locomotive. Years ago around 1979/80 I spotted a couple of class 46's stabled at Haymarket depot, it was the only time I've seen them there.... Mark
The only issue is that a Class 45/0 would never work with Air-Conditioned Mk.2s - that would be left to the Class 45/1s, which were especially fitted with with ETS (Electric Train Supply) to provide power for the air-conditioning.
Hi Dave I too have a peak class 45 I bought it second hand and I was impreest with the detail and performance worth the money I feel and it certainly looks good on your layout
Good looking loco Dave! It's the kind of thing I'd like on my layout, but not really my era which helps on the wallet! Looking really good in the running shots too! Sure it will look at home in the forthcoming TMD!
Very interesting review Dave, as you say, it certainly needs re-tooling, and I noticed a slight wobble on the loco as she went through the station at the end of the video...Bob
DaveClass47 exactly. There are plenty of flush ends in preservation and a team working on a 46 also so lots of opportunity to get lots of detail. You’re right they should retool and make use of more modern tech like cab lights etc.
Thank you for the review and personally I would be more than happy to accept the reviewed model. Any increase in the amount of small detail would probably make a new version a little too expensive for me.
Hi Dave I do like the Peak, many memories as a kid. It's a must in my opinion for any serious 70-80s modeller as they were almost everywhere. I enjoyed your run down on the model as I have it in my stable but oddly mines an 8 pin variant. They are great runners but can suffer from dirty pick ups. I've fitted sound to a couple and Legomans 46 for me is the best. Be nice to see this on Dean Park in future vids. Regards Paul
Great review, at least the date of your build you got lights & the seam on the nose, I got the 44 & 46 on the re tooled ones No lights No hose seam lol, also the head code boxes still look like they are glazed rolled to the dominio marker lights not plated, btw 45/1 were eth fitted for a/c stock
Really good review Dave of what i feel is the stalwart diesel loco in Bachmann's range going back to when they were called Mainline. Even though i agree it needs a re-tool i don't think it needs that much doing to it to bring it up to today's standards. Be well and keep safe, regards Gary.
I wish Hornby had put lights in there mk2d as most aircon trains east coast at lest was a mix of mk2ds and mk2f and did you also know first class was always on the end that was going to London so the down line had first class then second and up line first class was at the back
Hi Dave, nice to see you've added that Peak to your collection, hoping Farish will release some new tooling Class 45's soon.. One thing I have noticed with your fleet is how much passenger stock there is compared with freight, are you just a passenger fan or is it there's not much freight around the Edinburgh area?
hi....i prefer passenger stock as it seems to cost soooo much to get a decent length wagon rake! I do however have 23 HAA hoppers, 12 Esso Tankers and over a dozen box and open vans in railfreight red livery. I even have a Nuclear Flask wagon ;-) Most of it is weathered by TMC but the hoppers are next to be dirtied up! I am glad I have a peak....nice big heavy diesels! Cheers. Dave
@@DeanPark Certainly hear you on the costs of freight... Farish Polybulks £30+ I bought 15 Presflo's from TMC for £260 and that was a sale, love tanks though can't wait for the Charringtons TTA's but at £22 each gotta get saving.
Not going to lie mate. I was expecting a bit more of an in depth look at the huge list of bits Bachmann missed off the model and a more of a focus on what detail variants the model has and why (top covers removed and steps plated). It's a great looking model that can be massively improved with a few brass etched items from shawplan and a little attention from a drill and a file. Nice running sequence, Shame the class was banned from Glasgow queen street or you probably would have seen more of them in Scotland.
It was a quick look at the model... I did say it was lacking detail, but the list was rather long for me to go through it all....I don't want to send people to sleep! lol. The video would have been 21 minutes, not 11 and I fear I would have bored the majority with the endless nit picking of omitted details. ;-) All I will say, and I think I said it in the video is that it needs a retool!
For crying out loud, when will people wake up? It is not a 1 (one) Co Co 1 (one) configuration! It's an I (inactive) Co Co I (inactive) setup! Just as the class 31 is NOT A1A A1A, It's AIA -AIA Active Inactive Active - Active Inactive Active ! The designation refers to the powered axles! :-)
I don’t think it’s worth getting worked up about it. I’m sure everyone who watches this is fully awake. Just for your information, it is “1cO Co1” and “a1a A1a”. Can I suggest you maybe look at the last 30odd platform 5 books and books about the subject. It’s clearly A1A and 1-co in those books. I have them in front of me here. So I think in this case you are incorrect. We all make mistakes.
