Back Again at the Garfield Baseball Card Show!

The Garfield Card Show was hopping. There were a lot of dealers and collectors buying. I definitely noticed that there were a significant amount of dealers at this show buying, for what I assume to be, inventory for their next show. Some dealers who bought from me are guys that set up at The National or sell online. There was definitely an increase in traffic. It's certainly a good thing.
However, a lot of collectors also bought from me at the Garfield Card Show, like ‪@mookiechillson‬ and ‪@thevintagecomposer‬.
All in all, it was a great day. I mentioned at the end of this video that there is a shared perspective that buying is down in order to save up for The National. It's interesting because if buying is down, then prices will be more reasonable and thus, make it appealing to buy. Curious to get your take on this.

Yeah, the Topps 1959 Venezuelan Mickey Mantle Cards are not that common. Good eye for scoping that out.

@@SammyThunder It's bigger than the Mid-Atlantic. Multi day event. It's kind of like a mid-sized National. They have lots of autographs. And signings. But I prefer Mid-Atlantic because I can breathe a little easier. Chantilly has more pre-war though, but I am focused mostly on vintage atm.

Sammy, always love your card show videos. The shows in the east are so much better than the ones here in California. Even the smaller shows have a lot more vintage than a California show. I am one of those that does wait until The National and right after to buy cards. I don;t attend the national, but I do get good deals usually after the vintage. Three years ago I won a very nice 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle in a PSA 1.5. I honestly think the only reason I won that card at such a great price was because everyone that went to The National was broke!

I'm not sure if things are slowing down or not because I'm not even looking at card prices to notice. I imagine there are others like me so my guess is that things are indeed slowing down. Thanks for the great table footage as always, it always helps the dream list grow.

Thanks Eddy. I haven’t really been looking that much either as of late. I keep my eye out for the Cards that I’m interested in, but that’s about it. Pricing can be complicated because the way that dealers price their cards. It’s either by a book value or by market value.

I think it's a good buying opportunity right now. It'll be that way just before, during and even after The National. I'm not referring to buying at the event itself, but on other platforms.

@@SammyThunder I see. I'm interested with what will happen after the National. If the National, is the 'Super Bowl' of the hobby, a ''cooling'' down period could be possible imo. Am not going to be able to attend the show however, so I'll hopefully be able to buy either now, or post-Natty.

Great video Sammy. I'm not sure if I'm really seeing vintage prices going one way or another, but Heritage and REA both have vintage auctions ending next weekend and what happens with those could be pretty telling.

Not sure about sales slowing as I’m not really buying now but I do remember back when I knew a number of dealers that a lot of them would do shows leading up to the National and hold back a fair amount of big cards to “bulk up inventory”. Part of me gets that and part of me doesn’t unless they bump the prices up for the National to get more.

It's funny you mention about holding back on some of the big cards because one of the dealers today told me about a big card that he gave to his dealer friend that is setting up at The National to maximize the return. What I found today was a lot of dealers buying today for their inventory.

Vintage is definitely slowing down. I went to a card show yesterday with a lot of vintage. Some prices seemed to be really high and some seemed to be really low. Thanks!

Sammy I’m not seeing a drop in any pricing on the odd ball items that I collect. My coins are actually going up on eBay. Nice pickup on the Auravision Mays. That is the highest price one of the set. My son just purchased 5 of the records from one of the dealers that was selling at Strongsville. Yes I’m still talking about Strongsville, sorry John.

Hah. I don't mind if you still want to talk Strongsville. Hopefully John doesn't mind either. I actually saw a post recently regarding some coins. A guy said he went to a garage sale and bought a toy cash register for his granddaughter. When he opened the register, it had some rare Mantle coins in there. Funny how certain collectibles can be found.
