Nah, its more like B rank. TBH, Avatar needs to be put in the same category as anime since so many themes are similar. IMO, Avatar is a B or C ranked cartoon, and more like an A ranked anime.

@@Jjjof I should have explained myself better. I personally believe that cartoons require more ingenuity and craft to successfully design, at least at the quality of Rugrats, Spongebob, Hey Arnold, and other cartoons that are exalted. On the other hand, anime tend to be more lax in terms of creativity because there is a greater focus on storytelling, worldbuilding, and power system. Thus, I view the competition in cartoons as more rigorous than anime. As such, I perceive Avatar as having the storytelling, worldbuilding, character development, and power system that far exceeds the standard Shonen anime, but the lack of creativity and overall ingenuity causes Avatar to be an average cartoon.

Tales of Ba Sing Se: Tale of Iroh made Avatar SS rank for me. The highest tier. Iroh alone was everyone's grandpa and father figure man. That episode, where he's kind to strangers in Ba Sing Se giving life lessons was beautiful. And then Leaves From the Vine makes me tear up every time. Beautiful show.
