The whole point of the lift is the recruitment of the muscle fibers in the posterior chain then the actual concentric phase of contracting the erector spinae muscle... not the eccentric lowering of the weight. As long as you start the lift at a dead stop picking the weight off the floor (hence the name 'dead lift'), you're doing it right. Actually, focusing too much on lowering the weight slowly can really strain and damage your erector spinae and hamstrings which you don't want to do.

+tiehut theres quite a few factors to consider. your training style. are you doing hypertrophy/strength/power lifting style etc? i found my muscle mass maintained or only dipped slightly when i did my cut when i was running a strength program. (this is really subjective and to go into detail includes your time under tensiom and all that) also your diet etc. its inevitable to lose some muscle but you wont lose all of it. just track your progress and your overall strength.

I was Bradley Infantry in Germany with 2-6 Inf,we set the record for USAREUR Table VII, seven tracks scored 1000, lowest score for Bn is 920, my track scored 960, this was back in the 90's, this video brings back memories from Grafenwohr gunnery... Thanks for the vlogs.
