We have several bird feeding stations and water points in the communal back garden. In the video you can see the hanging feeders in the flower bed. Today, the weather was fine and warm. The pigeons will feed all year round. However, in May, the starlings come from all over the neighbourhood to feed, drink and bathe. The sparrows prefer to use the feeders in the juniper tree by the hedge.
Birds are considered by many experts to be good indicators of the general condition of the environment, In the UK, starlings are an endangered bird. According to the RSPB:
"Known for their incredible winter flocks, known as murmurations, it surprises many people to find that starlings have declined by over 50% since 1995, and are of the highest conservation concern because their high rate of decline. We’re carrying out research to find out why. This glossy and gregarious bird is heavily dependent on soil invertebrates like earthworms and leatherjackets, and it is possible this food supply has either declined or become less available during dry summers. This reduction in invertebrates may be down to land-use changes and modern agricultural practices which can damage soils."

The bird feeders and baths attract starlings, pigeons, doves, blackbirds, tits, sparrows, magpies, jackdaws, and ducks. We put out bird seed, dried meal worm, fat balls, and plenty of fresh water. We use water butts fed by rain pipes to collect water to tend to the birds and the plants. The bird provide my wife and I, and our neighbours with a good deal of pleasure. We love to see them flying in and out of the garden, eating, bathing and playing.
The video footage is recorded on a wildlife camera. They are not expensive and are great at capturing photos and videos of the wildlife in your garden. During the night throughout Spring and Summer, we also have hedgehogs visit the garden. Take a look at the playlist for these videos. The screengrab was surprise. It shows "Stevie" the white, fantailed dove with her wings spread. An accidental homage to filmmaker John Woo!
Our cat Remy will sit for an age on the window sill looking down at the birds in the garden. However, watching birds, mice, and squirrels on RU-vid has him transfixed in front of the TV, phone, and iPad. He will stalk the screen and pounce, swiping the creatures in the video. His poor little cat brain is unable to fathom why he can't grasp them in his paw.
