Just a heads up from a 35-year motorcycle rider. Your front brake does seventy (70) percent or more of the braking! With the ABS you got all that stopping power on the front brakes. Also, make sure you are not resting your right foot on the back brake pedal. Even a little pressure can engage the brake and this could cause overheating. Kaho Soi is my favorite dish too.
Agree 100% with the other "Robert". Stick to the front brake most of the time and don't ride the back brake, especially on mountain roads. Just resting your foot on the back brake pedal can be enough to burn up your pads. Great adventures Paddy, your channel and eBook have been an excellent guide for my own upcoming moto adventures in Thailand and Vietnam.
This is true for bicycles as well. You can easily and quickly overcook disc brakes and have to let the cool in the same way. Coming down Doi Suthep isn't a problem but climbing up to Mon Jam and down the other side was a different story. The overcooking started with me thinking "What's that smell?"
The value I get from watching your channel is priceless compared to watching stuff on Netflix. Love that you not only educate us on traveling Asia but you actually get us to go out and explore. First thing I’ll try when I get up to Chiang Mai is Kaho Soi! Safe travels and I am looking forward to your Laos videos as well.
Paddy, try to teach yourself to use the front brake. The front brake is equivalent to 75 % of your braking on your bike, so the back brake is only 25%. Learn to trust the ABS in all weather conditions.
Yes, many people commented on the video of the rear brake problem, that the problem was due to excessive heat and that has been confirmed. Michael as you have pointed out most riders do not fully utilize their front brake. Moto GP bikes routinely have their rear wheels in the air under heavy breaking.
@@Vlogged-off not at all. I’ve ridden the CT125 extensively. You can pull it as hard as you want on gravel and the front won’t wash out. The ABS is really good!
I Love Thailand,💕they have crazy good entertaining nature places like the little zoo, - where else can i watch the big big open mouth of a Hippo feeded by a visitor ? LoL !👍Thank you, great vids.
Must feel great to be back in your Thailand home base, Paddy! Then to have Miss P and your friends come over..perfect medicine to the feelings you were having in Southern Vietnam. Perhaps the best refresher to continue your trip to Laos. I was in Luang Prabang in 2012. Looking forward to seeing you there! 😎
Warmed my heart seeing beautiful Chiang Mai! Me and my husband spent most this video excitedly pointing at the screen shouting “omg look there’s ___!!”. Our favourite Khao Soi spot closed down during covid, so will have to try Mae Sai next year! Lovely video full of memories for us 😊
Random tip for anyone. Make sure to go past the Wat too, and check out the Doi Pui viewpoint. Then go up further and look at the camping site with the best view of Chiang Mai near the peak. And there is a viewpoint just on the other side of the mountain, down from the peak, that is one of the most amazing I've ever seen also.
You are the envy of us all Paddy , just watching you ride though Thailands most breathtaking country side , wow you are most definitely blessed mate 🥰 🇹🇭 🇦🇺🙏
Hiya Paddy, good to hear about Zelda. You don't know till you know. Black bars look good. Great, advise reference gadgets. Your munch looked good and so cheap. Love you had a few days with Miss.P. Flora and Note. Good times. Loved ones. Good Friends. Lovely zoo nice to see the animals up close. Nice smooth ride to your destination. Beautiful temple. Gorgeous drone footage. Lovely video. Have a wonderful week.
I love Zelda....I really do, but, can we do something about that faux gas tank? 🤨 It's the only thing wrong with the bike. I can't imagine any benefit to it, but only negatives ( I know there's the hidey compartment under there). Maybe we take a viewers poll?😃Can we vote it off? Honestly, I do really like the bike and I bet she's a blast & it's clear how happy you are with her on your adventures.
Hi Paddy- You look so happy to have Zelda back not to mention to have Miss P, Flora & Note with you! Have a great time in Chiang Mai & we look forward to seeing your next video 😊
Paddy I will update you on Brakes. If you have no ABS then 75% front and 25% back is the norm. In the wet it is 50% front and 50% back. Always try to progressively squeeze brake no sudden grab. Basic ABS is to prevent the wheels locking up if you mistakenly grab the brakes. Advanced ABS links the back and the front and depending on the system can go a long way to preventing a slip. If you are unsure keep to my first rule for dry and wet roads. The big thing is to think that you have two connections with the road slightly larger than two matchboxes. You aim is to reduce the stresses on these contact patches as much as you can with either turning, braking or acceleration. Hope that helps. One point always drop a gear or two on long downhills and let the engine brake assist the normal brakes. This is especially important of you are carrying luggage and the bike is heavy.
Wow, I have never heard of brakes that totally stop working when they get hot, that is so crazy scary! Not sure Zelda is a lady, looking very manly now! I will have the Khao Soi gai please. Nice double date at the zoo! Wat Doi Suthep is one of my favorite temples. Little travel tip, going up all those stair, keep a pair of binoculars with you. If you get a little winded. Just stop and say " Wow, did you see that bird!" Great video Paddy, always look forward to them.
I just left Chiang Mai a few days back! It was incredible and we may have crossed paths! This morning I helped pull a scooter up the side of a mountain on Samui near the Conrad. I remember your video exploring that side of the island and how you commented on how steep the roads were. Then I got to experience first hand! Thanks for the videos - they helped me decide on Samui and it was everything I hoped it would be!!
While I appreciate you wanting to customize your bike to your liking please reconsider the faux tank cover that provides you with zero benefit. Honda was thoughtful to provide a nice rack in the step through area for you to attach a useful softbag to carry items to make your travels nicer. Packable space on a small motorcycle is in short supply. I vote ditch the faux tank. 😁
Oh lala, your a good filmmaker ! Doi Suthep is one of my fav. places, whenever i am in Chiang Mai i must make a visite up to this famous Temple with a gorgeous view ! and last but not least you will make a visite to Chiang Dao ! my Thai friend lived nearby and i felt in Love for this area and the mountain ! looking forward to your next adventure - you are awesome, Thanks !
Paddy, change the brake hose to steel braided for both front & rear. It should handle heat better. Problem with rubber hose is that once your brake fluid heat up, once you apply the brake, the hose expanded give you spongy feeling or as you experience loss of brake all together. Hope that helps
Good to see Chiang Mai again! I find myself staring intently at the places you drive past to recognize spots I visited a few years back. Kao Soi Mae Sai is one of those lovely places (my google maps reminded me and even showed me my review!). So envious! And glad you got to visit with friends and Miss P. You seem relaxed again!
Watching you latest vlog has got me all excited about my upcoming trip back 'home' to CM next week. Good luck with the forthcoming trip and have lots of fun
About the brake mate, never too old to learn. I didn't also 🤫🤗 Very smart and useable upgrade on Zelda, and a great upgrade for your Gopro footage for sure 😉 I did finaly bought that Mic you always use on the mediamod, cause mine was crap 🤣🤫 need to test it 😏 I was only in Chiang Mai for half a day last year, way to short, just visited the temple, eat diner, slept in a hotel and rushed on. Next year i want to spend more days and fly into Thailand to Chiang Mai instead of BKK 🤫 with a small special guest 🤫 Love Nora and Flote, these two are awesome, ow sorry guys for miss spelling your names, have a wonderflo day 🤗 Doi Suthep and Wat Suthep, lovely mate, brings some memories back from last April, khop khun ma krap 🙏 And as always, C Ya in the next one, cheers Paddy 🙌🍻
Wow Zelda is looking sharp! Love the black! Always good to see you with Ms P Flora n Note too! Enjoy relax looking forward to whatever you choose. Laos here we come! Happy trails love🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Paddy for having a unique channel and a unique journey. Even folks who don’t motorbike have something to watch with you. Keep it up and let us watch your channel grow.
I like the new addition to the bike. Looks to be very functional. Thanks for the heads up regarding another Khao soi place to check out. We are planning to head up to Doi Suthep and maybe hang out in Doi Pui for day trip next week, so thanks for the little preview. We are really enjoying Chiang Mai. Looking forward to your visit to Chiang Dao as that is on our radar. If I may say, Thailand (or maybe Chiang Mai) really seems to be a happy place for you. If I'm full of crap don't hesitate to call me out, but it seems to have put a bit of pep back into your step. Enjoy your time off with Miss P.
Hi Paddy, discovered you while I was still in Canada and was hooked! Especially loved your recent ones as I'm now living near Chiang Mai - volunteering at a great charity. Know you've already made your plans for going north, but when you're in the area (we're 15 mins south of Phrao, 90km north of Chiang Mai) we'd love to see you here - can play soccer with the kids, visit some housebound elderly, learn about the biochar carbon capturing program they're working with the farmers on implementing. And there'll always be meals and a bed for you! Hope you had a wonderful mini break with Miss P!
What such a happy Vlog , Zelda is looking great , Khao Soi looked delicious and hanging out with Flora , Note and Miss P in beautiful Chiang Mai what a awesome way to start the day and always happy to watch you adventures. Enjoy the UK 🇬🇧 mate and thanks 🙏 for yet again sharing your awesome adventures..
Up the doi! My daily adventure when I lived in Chiang Mai. I’d run up the pilgrims trail most morning fruit shakes uk the top and hammer the trail down. Awesome fun! Appreciate seeing it again!
Hello, i am new subs. your videos are no doubt always fascinating, i watched some of your adventures and i am overwhelmed about your exceptional energy - Wow ! Love it 👍🔥
Great to see you so relaxed and recharged great that Zelda was OK and great to see the repositioning transitions. love the little bell on the tree hope one day we can add our own bell there
Very brave introducing Miss P gently. I'm happy for you Paddy. All the hard work and sacrifice and now you have the dream bike and the dream girl. Follow your dreamy good Sir.
Zelda’s cosmetic upgrades look good! Interesting about how the brakes work. The resort you stayed in was amazing. Nice custom with placing bells at the temple. Enjoy your time off. Happy and safe travels to your next destination.🤗🦋
Greetings and glad you have Zelda fixed up and she looks great with your improvements. Enjoy your time with Miss P, and stay safe, brother. Always great views and honest quality vlogs from you.
Thanks paddy mate! So glad i have found this and getting my taste buds ready for a journey into Thailand to experience regional provinces and their people. (Not cities) Thanks and regards from Brisbane Australia.
Hi Paddy, we enjoy watching all you videos. I am married to a Miss P, Pitchy. We have been in Australia for the last 3 years, seeing out Covid. Heading back to our house just out of Chiang Mai at the end of October. Regards John & Pitchy
I am late on this video, but I get so excited when I see places I been and recognize landmarks! It makes me want to go back to Chiang Mai, but I have other places to visit when I return to Thailand.
That is a great restaurant! The bike looks great and you are recharged and as awesome as ever! And what a bonus to see Flora a Note! And of course Miss P! Hello.
Dude love these videos. Approach the bike in the future like when our phones start acting up or doing something weird. 99.9% of the time we shut it down and reboot that fixes the problem 🤣😂Turn the bike off, give it 20 minutes and start her up and see if she’s good to go.
Hi Paddy , just found your channel , great stuff ! can I ask where is the emergency accommodation at the start of this , it looked amazing with the tub on the deck ! - visiting the area in Jan and would love to stay there !
Paddy, with your rear brake you have now boiled the fluid ! I would really recommend getting fluid replaced and get good quality 'high boil' fluid put in.
So good to see you back in your old stomping ground. You can really tell how much you love Chiang Mai and I have that khao soi place saved for when I finally visit :-))
Hey everyone, there is a drinking game when you watch Paddy Doyle videos. 1 drink when he says the best, Zelda, or favorite. 2 drinks when he says Kao Soi, 1 shot when he says shot.
Didn’t see anyone mention it but if you wrap some black cloth tape or a bit of an inner tube around your crash bar the GoPro clamp will be less likely to spin on you since it’s a slick roundish tube.
