I don’t think any freshman is that excited about going back to school. This is a brand new school for them. They can’t even get a five of the school before either going online, or doing a weird back to school thing. I’m a junior but I transferred schools a month before Covid so I have zero friends and that sucks. I only made five friends over that time. One of them I don’t even like because she thinks that other people don’t matter, one of them I don’t know that well, and two of them were seniors and are now in college. Starting a new school and Covid is not at all exciting. My little sister is a freshman and I feel bad for her. A lot of places aren’t even doing freshman orientation. When I was a freshman, we had a brand new school so everyone had to do an orientation because nobody knew with her classes were. I was a freshman orientation isn’t about getting to know the vibe of the school or the teachers. It’s about knowing where you’re going.Freshman who aren’t getting orientations, are going in blind!

Never have a once heard a teacher tell us the actual consequences for not finishing or turning in an assignment. It’s always “you’re going to loose points” or “a lot of kids are passing. You should be too.” When a project is assigned, the only thing Anyone hears is “this is for ___ points on your report card. If you don’t turn it in, you’re going to fail my class.” Maybe it’s just my school, but They give us learning applications like Quizlet, Everfi, and Lexia to teach us reading and basic things the teachers themselves could teach the whole class within a few hours. All for us to get an assignment rating the game and saying what we did or didn’t like about it. Nothing is being put in our minds. It goes in one ear, and out the other. We aren’t being thought basic things we need for life. To get us jobs. Yet teachers defend themselves by saying how “once we grow up, we’re going to need this” but we never do. We don’t need to know how to divide decimals. We need to know how to look for a stable job. And how to manage our money. It’s sad seeing school be turned into what it is today.

Yes school teaches a lot of stuff your probably not gonna use, and there’s things that they don’t teach that you will use. The thing is, you think solving for x is so useless that your literally never gonna use it. But there are job careers that use advanced math. Oh I don’t need to know that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, well if you want to be a scientist your gonna need to know that and much more. Sure most people will probably be working in office jobs in the future, but school doesn’t know that. If they tailored classes to the career you want to go into, it would be way to confusing. Also, what if you change your mind about something? You might regret not taking calculus later on if you realize that you want to be an engineer. So yeah, thanks for reading my rant

Here's my problem with school. There honestly just so out if touch with the actual world today and its treated more or less like a business. What's the point of forcing all of this useless information on a student if school was actually built upon your personal interests and yes I understand learning the basics but if we could actually choose subjects it would be much more beneficial. i moved and i had to go to a whole new school and i have a two best friends from last year and having one of them having in my class really helped my anxiety with meeting new people cause i get extremely nervous when i have to talk to new people. and my friends have been at this school for so long and they said some of the girls are “those girls” and i’ve talked to one or two of them and they are “that girl” so im really nervous for when they talk to me since one of my friends said they never stopped talking to new people and of course, that’s me. all i want to do is just get an assigned seat near my best friend, not talk to anyone except him, do all the work, stay up till 4am doing homework and just go to sleep. not get involved with anyone else. everyone’s gonna make fun of me being friends with a boy, since im a girl, and yes my classes still isn’t over girls hanging out with boys. my teacher is super modern and everything and when i walk in with all my kandi bracelets, oversized jeans with chains and stuff all over my belt, a knitted sweater vest in a really bright color, a bucket hat, lots of earrrings, etc i feel like everyone’s gonna look at me weird cause i’ve never seen anyone else wearing indie/kandi kid style so now everyone’s going to judge me and i don’t know what i did to anyone. i used to be the loud and funny class clown, because my class was perfect, everyone was nice, nobody judged eachother, but now i’m so so so nervous because my class sucks and i don’t want to talk to anyone expect for my boy-friend. everyone’s gonna make fun of me for liking dream and tommy, etc because apparently it’s annoying and childish and yes people can have opinions but it’s just so horrible how people straight up say “that’s dumb, it’s so childish and really annoying” because it makes me feel like everything i like is just dumb and i just shouldn’t like it when it’s one of the things keeping me happy and encouraging me stay healthy. and everyone will make fun of me for liking undertale and deltarune since it’s old and not trendy anymore when literally it’s a game. everyone in my old classes played it and nobody made fun of it but i can just tell they will this year and it’s pissing me off. i’m sorry for typing this is in the comments i really just had to get this out i cant handle it anymore.

Tbh school kills reading for most ppl. We did a class survey and only 2 kids like reading. Some don't like it and that's fine but most kids(including me) use to like reading but when we had to read the answer a question we get so caught up in getting the answers that all joy of reading is sucked out of us. I do think schools should reform how they do reading.
