In this final chapter, Marty McFly (Michael J. What made these films tick was the fact that nobody had done this sort of film before. And it's heavily inspired by H.G Wells The Time Machine, so Back to the Future is by no means an original concept. In fact, timetravelling has been done quite a few times.

Well also isn't the woman he ends up with really smart? So not only does he have the concept down well, but he's got someone that with a few years of education can be a competent lab partner. My issue is more with the parts needed, the reason this movie happened was because the replacement part for the Delorean wasn't available through manufacturing for over 60 years from 1885, just having one more person working towards is wouldn't change that. Though I can kind of hand-wave that away given in the timeline where he lives longer than just the few months until September, he'd now have had several years to figure out how to replace certain manufactured parts, especially given that circuits in the 1940's would have been difficult to make independently, but not impossible as if it were a more modern circuit with much smaller scale manufacturing techniques required to etch. One thing that works in their favor probably is that since many parts being custom made would make them bigger and bulkier, a train would be a more suitable vehicle for increased component size, although a truck could work too. Not to mention with two smart people and combustion engines becoming available, they could have reasonably designed a fast enough car, though that would have been more work than retrofitting a train. The other commenter pointing out hoverboard tech is also making a good point, whatever powers that would probably be something worth studying to create more reliable propulsion for the train. And you only need to time travel once, they hover-converted the train so they definitely went to the future, if all you do is make that first journey then suddenly you have all the tools you need in that time-period to upgrade and that solves the problem too. Ended up writing a lot more than I intended but hopefully that provides some useful things to consider, hope you're having a great day both of you.

Sierra No. 3, the locomotive pushing the Delorean, it’s whistle was also used for The Polar Express, also directed by Robert Zermekes.

Still remember watching the first two on tv on a movie marathon thing that lasted 3 weeks. By the third, I missed it because we went camping. I was gutted, but it turned out my aunt had it on VHS. I still remember her unwrapping the boxset from the plastic and I was like, "No! That's gotta be a collector." I was about 10 at the time as well, and this was probably early 2000s, because I saw it at the video store as a dvd before she unwrapped it on video. Still, would like to know how much a mint vhs boxset of Back to the Future would go for now.

The way Marty and Jennifer get blown off their feet. It's exactly the same way Marty gets blown off his feet in the guitar scene at the very beginning of the series.

Never noticed that, but you’re totally right - this franchise is loaded with so many amazing callbacks and self-references!

I wish Jennifer was in Parts 2 and 3 more. We barley saw her and Marty interact with one another to know what their relationship is like. If Jennifer was in the movies more, we could've seen their relationship build up so we can like their pairing in such a special way. In addition, we could've seen Jennifer find out in 2015 how their marriage was falling apart and going through marriage counseling. With that, Jennifer would take this opportunity to try to fix that by having her and Marty go through certain changes to make their relationship improved. Plus, I think Jennifer could've been really helpful on the adventure Marty and Doc went through in these movies. Would've been interesting to see what she could've done in 1955 and 1885. I think it would've been fun to see her and Marty square dance in this movie as Doc danced with Clara.
