I had a black-bear inches from my head when I was alone camping in a tent just like the last scene shows. It stayed around most of the night snd was sniffing and scratching and running around. I prayed to God to send protection and not even let it harm the tent and a glow appeared between my head and the back of the tent where it sat.

Listen, I was thinking, let's make this really romantic by not bringing a map or cellphone and take a hike to the middle of nowhere. What's that? No, listen, it's alright, it's bear country but they're the cute fuzzy kind, like Winnie the Pooh. I was also thinking in the chance we run into any weird Irish guys with big knives that we befriend them out there. Anyway, I gotta go back to eating paint chips but I love you and can't wait for our trip!"

Loved this movie!! Here's why: • Unfamiliar actors that were believable (for the most part) and that were able to act their way into my caring about their story • The fear is real. I couldn't help but think, " Improbable... But possible". • I was deeply, deeply disturbed during the final tent scene. So much so, that I actually found my hands were shaking. This was probably due to lack of oxygen, because I forgot to breathe while watching. Correction: LISTENING. What we can hear during this scene will shake you to your core. Great film, so happy I stumbled into it! I've been hunting for a similar movie ever since!

Amy Francis. hopefully you will get my response 2 years later ;) I also agree with you about the movie. Most bears run away from people unless their babies, cubs, or food is being threatened. So in this case we have a very wild bear on the prowl. but you never know, it could happen. I thought the movie was very interesting and really exciting in the tent. WOW

It was obvious that the bear was lonely and just wanted a hug. When he saw the couple in their tent he was a happy bear and strolled over just to say "How's it going eh? Got any honey?" but the couple were very rude to the bear so of course he was offended and because bears have anger issues, he attacked. This all could have been avoided had they simply just gave the bear a hug.

I don't think any two actors could have done a better job than these two. I keep coming back to watch it again and again; I also tell people about it all the time. So believable and such beautiful scenery. I tell people " you have to see this movie; it's Canadian with two Canadian actors" - I'm so proud . This is the kind of film making that I knew Canadian film makers and actors were capable of because of their depth . If we can avoid the barbie-doll syndrone and hip-hop culture on a large scale, we can be the best. I think this movie ranks in the top ten ever it's so well made.

Be prepared when going into the wilderness. Bring map, compass, and necessary navigational skills. Let someone know exactly where you’re going and when you expect to return. Don’t assume that you are safe from bears at a campground; they know campgrounds are handy places for an easy meal. Cook and eat at least 100 ft. from tent site, if possible (not always possible at a campground). Likewise, store food 100+ ft. from tent site, in a bear canister, suspended between two trees, or in a campground bear box. NEVER bring food inside your tent! Change out of your cooking/eating clothes before retiring to your tent; store those with your food. Clear away all food smells before bed. Use a tablecloth to keep food crumbs/spills off the picnic tables at campgrounds, and store that with food items at night. A cowbell, whistle, or air horn will scare off most animals snooping around the campsite looking for food during the night and a can of bear spray is a good idea, just in case (but, obviously, don’t discharge it inside the tent!).

@@henryate5028 No not really, They dont have a tendency to approach humans unless theres smelly food close by or there starving. Healthy Bears wont bother with humans and tend to be more scared of us then we are of them. I remember reading the mnr follow up to this incidient and they concluded that this bear was a odd one of the bunch . Keith Scott, a bear expert with the Ministry of Natural Resources, said such attacks are very rare. There's only been four fatalities in Ontario through black bears dating back to about 1978," he said. "This one in this particular case, it's early in the investigation, but it appears to be a predatory-type bear. These bears have learned to and often prey on humans."

Reminds me of the time my friend was attacked by a black bear in Northern New Mexico. You see this bear rolls up to camp after my dumb ass friend had cooked chicken and forgot to wash his hands. The bear goes up to my 1st friend in his sleeping bag and swats at him. He rolls like a log. Bear goes up to my next friend and he starts freaking out. Well that wasn't a good idea. Bear bites his head and then my other friend fires the shotgun in the air. Bear runs off. Friends skin is hanging from his head. They wrap a towel around it and hike back home. Within 20 minutes the white towel was red. At least he got a piece on sixty minutes.

@rkygriz

This move is very atmospheric , beautifully photographed, and the bear attack was as realistic as any description of a real life bear attack ever was- and I've read a great many books on this subject! Be aware that black bears have a tendency to start eating their victims while they are still alive! Don't believe me? See the case of Cynthia Dusel-Bacon who was attacked by a black bear while she was part of a geological survey in Alaska. The bear pinned her down, and started eating the flesh on both of her arms. By a sheer miracle, she was able to use her radio and summon help from a nearby helicopter and was rescued, but she lost both of her arms. If you are a tent camper who enjoys camping anywhere in bear country, this movie should be enough to convince you of the merits of keeping a high caliber handgun( such as a .44 magnum) by your sleeping bag lest you wind up like the guy in this movie does because this has happened in real life many times all across the North American continent ,and in Europe, pretty much wherever bears and other large predators are found. For instance, Timothy Treadwell and Amy Huguenard might still be alive today if they had carried a firearm for protection. Maybe not. But at least a firearm would have given them a fighting chance to survive instead of both of them winding up in the stomach of a hungry grizzly bear!

About the only accurate part in this movie is that a Bear attacked. What REALLY HAPPENED IS THAT the Man fought the bear off with a knife but not before the woman was mauled to death.
@rkygriz
@rkygriz 8 лет назад
Correct, Jean. I read about this incident some time ago. The bear attacked and all they had was a knife to defend themselves with. The man stabbed the bear repeatedly, but the woman still died before they could reach help. Here's the real story for any future readers:A black bear that may have learned to prey on humans killed a woman and injured her husband at a provincial park in northern Ontario.Police and wildlife officials were on the hunt for the wounded bear Wednesday and campers have been ordered out of the back country of Missinaibi Lake Provincial Park.Jacqueline Perry and Mark Jordan, both 30, were attacked at a campsite in the provincial park about 80 kilometres north of Chapleau.Ontario Provincial Police said that while the bear was attacking Perry, her husband managed to stab it with a Swiss Army knife in a frantic effort to keep it from dragging his wife into the woods.Perry was a family doctor at Grandview Medical Centre in Cambridge, Ont.The couple were on a two-week holiday, camping and kayaking at a remote campsite when the black bear attacked.OPP Const. Karen Farand said after fighting off the bear, the injured Jordan carried his wife to their kayak and started paddling to the nearest campsite. He yelled for help, and a father and son from Pennsylvania heard him and took Perry into their boat.They soon flagged down another boat with a doctor from North Carolina and an off-duty police officer on board. The doctor tried to treat Perry while the boat continued on to the park office about 10 kilometres away, but Perry succumbed to her injuries."I've lived here all my life and this is a first for me," said Farand. "I can't even imagine what [the couple] went through."Keith Scott, a bear expert with the Ministry of Natural Resources, said such attacks are very rare."There's only been four fatalities in Ontario through black bears dating back to about 1978," he said. "This one in this particular case, it's early in the investigation, but it appears to be a predatory-type bear. These bears have learned to and often prey on humans."There have been a number of bear attacks across Canada this summer.A Manitoba man fended off a black bear in early September, just one week after a black bear killed another man in the province. There have been four grizzly bear attacks in Alberta since June, including a fatal one on a female jogger near Canmore. And a woman in British Columbia was mauled by a bear in May.

Cynthia Dusel-Bacon survived because she made noise, not because of a miracle. Don't play dead with a black bear. Black bears like to eat dead things. Ergo, if you're not moving or squawking when your arm is being chewed, you must be dead! Her making noises saved her life because it startled the bear in a "whoah man, it's moving" sort of way. After she made her livelihood pretty clear (by moving and calling in for backup), the bear moved on to a move easier target; her camping rations.

What a great movie. Just saw it on Netflix. Why in the world would you go camping with no maps and cell phone ? Plus the guy saw some tell tale signs of the bear on the trail but chose to ignore it. What was he thinking? I felt mad that he put both there lives at grave risk and sadly he paid the ultimate price.

it made me hate them and not the couple even though they were the uninvited guests and were silly enough to get lost without the assurance of with nonlethal weapons to scare away potential threats except for bear spray and some repellent. i think it was partly because i emphasized so much with them since they were genuinely scared that they didn't know where they were going but understood that it could be/get worse and appeared to be confused what attracted the bear as they didn't bring any food into the tent or around it. we can sit here and say "what did you think was going to happen when they entered into bear territory?" or "of course, they wouldn't survive more than a few days without knowing the way back or having the right navigational tools" but in reality, its realistic to expect nonexperts to critically assess a situation and be as prepared as they can be when they've exhausted their resources and are having to rely on their instincts to keep alive and while all alone. watching the end of the film, i really admired seeing Jenn go into into complete survival mode and tried to use what little knowledge she had as a lawyer and not a adventurer like Alex to make it out alive. the heartful moment when she "respects" the wandering deer made me appreciate nature again despite being exposed to the grimmest parts of nature; i'm so glad she found the canoe, but i could never unsee what happened to Alex or think of him less because of it

Well dont know where i can review this so ill just do it here. Some spoilers below to so youve been warned. This was an interesting movie at first with just the attention to nature but it kinda fell flat for me cause it took way too much time setting up and i felt some of the characters were being stupid for the plot. The male lead in particular, most of the time I just felt bad for the main girl. Her boyfriend was so incompetent it was ridiculous and pretty much his idiocy and pride screwed them over. I get he had a whole plan to propose at some random lake from childhood (its not even romantic) but if your not an experienced hiker then admit it and don’t let your damn pride get in your way. I mean I don’t know if he even knew pretty basic things of the wilderness. I mean he saw SOOO much warning signs of a bear but completely ignored it or must not even have known. I mean im not even an advend hiker, I just read and I knew how much warning signs were their but he didn’t. I mean this guy saw broken branches, random berries just randomly on the floor and a bad smell (most likely Dung) it even looked like he picked up the berries from dung; The Worst ones were that he saw a rotting dear corpse that looked super recent, he even freaken saw a bear FOOTPRINT early on and ignored it???? WTF???? And he saw the bear footprint before the corpse……. I mean put two and two together dude!! WTF??!!! Its like he was trying to get them killed. I think half way through the warning signs he knew but just didn’t admit it cause he didn’t wanna look bad. Plus he screwed them over with the cell phone. He just didn’t know what he was doing at all but she trusted him and it was basically the blind leading the blind. And the blind is to prideful to admit hes blind…..

ninjastorm540 i couldnt agree more, this film honestly made me angry haha. And when they were in the tent and she used that bear spray for like 4 seconds and still had 8 seconds left on the can and she lost sight of it for when the bear came back?! Like she was just as useless as he was for fuck sake. She didnt know how to pull the safety off either, that took her damn near 15 seconds to figure out alone and then they leave the bag by the fire and shit like everything was sooo stupid and annoying i found myself screaming at the tv and shut the movie off a couple minutes after she ran away and hit her head and woke back up because i couldnt take any more cheesy ass bullshit. Ughhhh im going to smoke a joint now this bitch pissed me off to much..
