Hi Matt, I loved your few flatpicking riffs you did in this video. You reckon you could teach a tune some day like Shannon does? It was very nice! 🙂 Thanks a million again for your awesome lessons. And yeh, every music with notes are in mode. Sarah McQuaid called "modal chords" chords with just the 1st and 5th note, like a power chord with copies of the 1st and 5th. Are those what you call "partial chords"? I haven't watch that lesson in ages. Shall watch it again more carefully tonight ☺️

Matt uses "partial chord" any time he's not playing all three notes of the chord. Power chords are always, as you say, just the 1 and 5. And partial chords could be any combo. Maybe we will get Matt in to teach a tune one of these days...

This is really clear & great to have the sound demos, thanks! Summary for reinforcement: Interval it starts on, mode name, example in Key of D (f#, c#) 1st Ionian (Major) starts on D in key of D: "D Major" 2nd Dorian (minor-ish) starts on E in key of D : "E Dorian" 5th Mixolydian (major-ish) starts on A in key of D: "A Mixolydian" 6th Aeolian (Minor) starts on B in key of D: "B Minor"

Actually, I meant to say that the "listening" and "testing" thing is a huge help. Thanks !

In general, listening and testing and just trying is probably the best approach... Right?

Hi Matt, can you show what your doing with your tuning head. It seems you have a switch to turn the bottom E to a D.
@ShannonHeatonMusic
@ShannonHeatonMusic 2 года назад
That's a hip shot D extender--it does, in fact, allow you to go from an E to a D by flicking a lever. Though you have to finely re-tune a bit. It's handy! (But he hasn't added it to his new guitar, and gets by without it.)
