Wilkins 950XL, 950XLT, 975XL and the Conbraco/Apollo 40 Series valves have replaceable seats that can be difficult to change without a tool. I go over the manufacturer seat tools and two after market seat tools. I then discuss some quick connect test fittings, ball valve handle wrenches and missing ball valve handle wrenches.
I sell these seat removal tools. Here are the part numbers:
Conbraco/Apollo DC40/RP40 tools, made by Apollo, 40000SRT backflow-suppl...

As a DIY home owner I didn't want to spend that kind of $ as I only had one seat to replace, so I just made one out of some aluminum scraps I had and it worked just fine. I figure I saved about $250 - $350 by making my own tool and not calling a plumber. YT is great for learning how to do things yourself and I truly appreciate these content creators for their contribution to my DIY education!! Much Appreciated!!

yes DIYers can get creative. Making a seat removal tool from something else often works. I usually discourage homeowners from buying the seat removal tools as it is rarely needed. It is more for those that service these on a regular basis.

Is there any problem to use the Conbrco DC40/RP40 seat tools to the Wilkins RP?

I retired and closed my test/repair business a couple of years ago. You have some great tools there but let me comment on some. The flat bar seat remover from Wilkins is made of a metal (aluminum) is way too soft. I have twisted that tool on a 1" seat completely around 360 degrees to make it look like a pretzel and the seat still would not come out. I would have to hammer it back flat again. The other tools you have there would have allowed me to not replace the entire assembly. I like the missing handle tool but I just kept a few spare handles with me or just used a heavy crescent wrench on the notch of the stud just like the handle does. You are missing the best tool ever. It is a brass quick connect. Mine have 90 degree fittings on them to connect the hoses. That 90 degree elbow has o-rings to allow it to rotate to wherever I found it to be convenient. My guess is the brass ones you have there also make the 90 degree ones also? Much better that the straight stem ones. Yes, they are easy to leave behind (did that twice and had to go back and get them) and I dropped one in some shrubs with mulch. Spent over an hour looking for it on my knees and. never found it. After that I taped off the threads and painted then fluorescent orange! Good video

Thanks for the input. I know what you are talking about with the Wilkins seat tool. I have some of the first ones and I had that issue as well with them twisting. They have changed the metal and they seem stronger and I do not have the complaint about them twisting anymore. However, the after market seat tools seem to be better all the way around for removing and installing the seats. There are brass 90's and I do sell them. How long did the paint last on your fittings? Nice idea.

Let me know if you have any questions or need links to the products. The seat tool links are in the description. You can email me at sean@backflow-supply.com. Unfortunately the purple and gold tools are on backorder and I don't know how long before I see them.
