I loved this watching this live and hearing Mochy say he didn’t like the play after the match 😂. I love this position. It looks so risky at first to break a 5 pt board to hit loose when you’re a favorite to get hit on the next roll! But BG is always about weighing risk v reward and in this position you risk nothing by hitting and you actually risk a ton by letting him anchor. Well-timed ace pt games win 20% and here you still have two men on the 18 so opp still has 30% after entering. You must hit!!
This play just seems so standard to me. I was surprised to hear the commentators fawn over it and Mochy disagree. The opponent has no board and a blot. Maybe if the blot was cleaned up and another point was made, then there would be reason to pause.
I saw the play and hope (or maybe wish) I would play it... One reason I might go for it is this play from UBC USA Championship earlier in the year... not identical, but a similar idea: ru-vid.comUgkxgGXAX_tlkBBBVNh80MQSVwaQO7jJWUSP
